Shoma Uno: 2014-2024

Anthony Liu would be ideal but the reason I was only thinking of coaches in Japan is because I don't see Shoma as the type to drop everything and move abroad. He could totally surprise me by doing it though.
Maybe Takeshi Honda or Yamato Tamura? If I recall correctly, Satoko has said Yamato helped her with the lutz. Takeshi used to be Dai's jump coach but Dai didn't have the best lutz jump either.

Shoma used to be very frustrated about not being able to land his triple axels so I think he would do anything necessary to improve.

I don't remember... but I think he is a good coach. From what I've seen he is in Mie Hamada's team so Shoma would probably have to join them full-time.

And I also heard Shoma had not experienced any competition in North America before Int'l Classic.

I sincerely hope he can compete the Skate America in a perfect condition.

This must have been a good experience for him then. Hopefully he'll be well prepared for SkAm and since he didn't do well at his first competition, the media will be off his back and concentrate on Mura (sorry Mura!)

Does having Takeshi as a coach automatically mean he'll join the Nagamitsu team? I'm not sure if I like that :slink: He already loves Daisuke too much.
Having Yamato as a coach would be good. He seems to have a relaxed personality and he and Shoma can be cute and handsome together in the K&C and the world will rejoice.

I don't think Takeshi and Nagamitsu are a team, they just worked with Dai together. On the other hand, I'm pretty sure Yamato and Hamada are a team and Shoma would have to switch to Hamada's camp.

Ah, okay. I thought they were a team because they're both listed as Shu Nakamura's coaches but I don't know who else he's coaching atm.

Yes, I'm pretty sure he's 100% committed to Team Hamada. It says here that Yamato joined Hamada's team after retirement in 2004 because he thought she would kick his butt (to work hard) and that he wanted to be coached by her when he was competing.

Joining Hamada's team wouldn't be a bad idea. She's got many good female skaters and I think Mura is partially coached by her also. I see her becoming busy like Brian Orser or Eteri Tutberidze this season with how many of her students have been assigned JGP/GP events.

Agreed, I'm very impressed with Marin Honda, Yuna Shiraiwa and of course the way Satoko Miyahara bloomed last season. They also work with overseas choreographers and I think Shoma would get great programs from Tom Dickson or Phillip Mills. They're less "in demand" but they have been doing great programs for their students.

^ Totally OT now, but I like Mariko Kihara too, another one of Hamada's students and am happy that she got NHK Trophy.

Kind of a late response, but Satoko's wikipedia page says that Josée Chouinard helped Satoko with her lutz jumps. This is the article that was linked, written by Noriko Shirota.
And Ilia Kulik helped her with the height of her jumps according to this.
But I'm sure Yamato is helping her on a daily basis.

As you Shoma Uno fans know, GS Forum Staff took over ownership of his fan fest because the owner of the OP was banned.

We have recently obtained an app that lets us reassign ownship of OPs without having to make everyone update their bookmarks!

Would any of you fans like to own Shoma's OP?

If so, PM me

Thanks Doris!
Everyone, please let me know if you'd like me to add anything to the OP. I guess I'll start by adding links from the recent competition.
And oh gawd, there's a table waiting for me to mess up... wish me luck.

:o:

Don't worry! I keep a copy of the table, because I mess them up too. :o:

We can always start from scratch.

He is so cute and serious and then he smiles and his face lights up. Aww.

Now, what is he saying...? Lol

Sorry about just leaving the video link :o: I was on iPad when I posted and couldn't translate.
This is just a rough and messy translation…

Narration at the beginning is about how he made a breakthrough last season with the 4T and 3A and won many titles.
1:15 He says he would have stayed junior for as long he needed to if he didn't acquire the 3A and 4T. He had a good season and has no regrets so he's going senior.
Narration says that he's never competed in the US before so he began his season a month before his first GP in the US to get accustomed.
1:50 He's the youngest/lowest (I think he just means it's his first senior year) so he thinks he'll be able to compete without thinking he has to win, but can have more fun competing than he did last season where he felt the pressure of being the top junior skater.

2:35 (Shoma mimics backstage reporters) "Uno Shoma senshu is concentrating," adds that his axis is off.
2:50 The narration says he's having fun going after the top skaters and overcoming big challenges will be important. Last season, he thought that he could afford to make mistakes with the 4T as long as he lands his other jumps. But now that he's a senior, he has to jump them.
His big weapons are a standard in the senior field and landing more than one of them are a necessity. He increased the number of 4T and 3A in both programs.
Last season (for his FS at Junior Nationals) he tried the "senior" layout with two 4T and two 3A and only succeeded in landing one 3A. He said after the competition that he's awed by the senior skaters who have to do this every time.
His other challenge is that the FS is 30 seconds longer in the senior field.

5:18 After his SP at SLC, he said he's depressed and that he got a bit tight for the SP and regrets not going all out for it. He wants to overcome all the concerns he has from the SP in the FS.
He thought that he has to "attack" to have a good performance.

7:42 After his FS, he said that his performance went ok except for the landing on one of the 3As, but there's still room to improve in the FS and most of all, he needs to work on his stamina for the FS with the difficult jump layout.

8:15 He landed a 4Lo attempt in practice before the competition. He says that his 4Lo isn't consistent enough to include in a competition yet but there is a possibility (in the future).

---------
TV Tokyo posted a report of Shoma in preparation for Japan Open on their FB page.
His 4T success rate is almost 100% and he is in good shape.
The rest is about his FS music and how it's been used by Arakawa at Turin Olympics and Kim as her exhibition program.

Omg, mikaboo! I didn't mean to sound complaining! I was laughing at myself watching a whole video without a clue of what was being said! So sorry if you thought I was demanding.

Thank you so much for the translation. He is such a hard worker. I am sure he will get there. Gaining more stamina will be a large part of the battle.
