TEB is Cancelled

I am not sure if this is sourced properly, but the Wikipedia for the 2015 Trophee Eric Bompard says that they will use the short program results as the final results...

I agree with the cancellation of the event. What about not running the FS at all and substituting the scores with Personal Bests? At least that some skaters can have a chance to move up in the standings. It's still a little unfair to skaters like Yulia who we know will never score 141 again (at least not this season) but Liza then gets up to 3rd, Gracie still in 1st putting her in the GPF, and boom. Same goes for Mens too, Shoma will stay in first, I believe that'll put Chan into 2nd, Ten in third and Kovtun in 4th.

Nope, also not fair. We have no guarantee whatsoever that any skater would perform to the level of their Personal Best. Some might be far worse, some might set a new Personal Best. We have no way of knowing what would happen, and any attempts to stack results based upon prediction of performance in the long program are even more unfair and biased than basing the results solely on the short program. This is not the first time that a top skater hasn't made the Grand Prix Final based upon a poor performance, and it will not be the last. Yeah, rough for Liza and Patrick, but those are the breaks.

All Skaters who have upcoming GP's in TEB

Mens:
Kovtun: NHK

Ladies:
Roberta Rodgheiro: Rostelecom
Mae Berenice Meite: NHK

Pairs:
Voloshzar/Trankov: NHK
James/Cipres: NHK
Peng/Zhang: Rostelecom

Ice Dance:
Stepanova/Bukin: NHK
Hubbell/Donohue: NHK

Ultimately I'll leave it to the ISU to make their decision. Any "solution" will be unfair in some ways. After these terrorism attacks yesterday, is it really such a big deal if someone's GPF chances are ruined? It's just figure skating and no one's career is being ruined. One competition isn't the end of the world for Liza, Patrick, T/M, or anyone else.

The visa issues could probably be worked through and as for competition at two events, it could be viewed like world's used to be with a qualifying round imo. Not perfect, of course, but at least would serve most of the skater's.
Actually, which skaters would be competing at two events at Russia? For those that would be they could be sent to Japan rather than Russia to get their lp scores.

So proposals thus far presented in this thread
1. Postpone TEB FS for during the previous planned exhibition on Sunday
2. Move TEB FS to another country this weekend
3. Postpone TEB FS for after NHK trophy
4. Have results of SP become final results
5. Add skater's seasons best (or personal best) FS score to TEB SP score for final results
6. Have TEB skaters compete at COR or NHK
7. change format of GPF and invite all skaters that participated in GP
8. cancel GP series

Are there anymore suggestions? My guess is #3, #4, and maybe #6 are the most feasible. My preference is #3, I know it will be a near logistical nightmare and expensive to organize, host, and travel to the event, however at least the skaters still have a chance to complete the full competition.

I think #4 and #5 are the most reasonable, aside from delayed free skates in the same venue w/o the audience. But the PB idea is the most fair-they couldn't say they it was unfair if it was set up like they skated the best FS they've ever done!

Even more fair is to average out all their FS scores of the last two seasons and add that score to their SP one.

I'm sure some skaters (all the winners, plus people like J/C and Roberta who did far better than they were predicted to) would be happy with the SP result solution. But it would leave other skaters (Liza, T/M, Patrick, Max) empty-handed. There's really no solution that helps everyone involved, so the organizers just need to do whatever they see fit and that will be that.

Can you translate, please, google traslated is awful

Here is my best shot at a translation. I like Maxim but I think all the skaters' interests should be considered not just those who have been the most successful in the past.

If we take into account only the short- there will be mass protest. said the Journalist Trankov. I am sure that the Canadian Federation will launch a protest. Patrick Chan will surely not remain out of the Final. How is it possible to exclude people from the Final due to a Force majeur.
I consider that we must make a protest on behalf of Liza (Tuktymesheva was 5th after the short program). How to leave out of the Final the current World Champion? It is simply dishonorable treatment of athletes (sportsmen and women)! The competition has not finished. I have a positive solution (a bit of trouble translating this). But speaking of other people, I don't consider it just. added the figure skater.

Averaging out the scores from the last 2 seasons? What about Liza's disaster season in 2013? IMO PB seems the way to go, or delayed free skates. If they get the go ahead, I'd say cancel the Exhibition and go ahead with the FS

Are most of the skaters and their coaches already on the way back to their homes?

and if Chan and Liza would have made good SP then I guess no protest Mr Trankov ? Cmon... :roll5:

This is going to be tough. any decision the ISU will make will benefit and disadvantage people.
But that's life.

I agree with Trankov on this.

Or just change the format of GPF and invite all skaters that participated in GPs.

Yeah if Trankov said this I would be inclined to agree with him too. That would really be the fairest why to handle it. I don't know about inviting all skaters who participated in GP to GPF because some skater realistically have not opportunity to make the finals and that would be a lot of skaters. Maybe instead of inviting all they could expand from top 6 to top 12. skaters. The whole situation is horrible. I feel bad for France!

This would have been ideal but I am 100% sure that ship has sailed. The event has been unambiguously cancelled.

I meant the 2014-15 and 2015-16 seasons. Sorry for the confusion.
(However, there are still skaters that would put at a disadvantage. Like Yulia. And V/T and Patrick, who didn't compete. Liza would have a huge advantage, though.)

Really, any solution would put SOMEBODY at a disadvantage.
