TEB is Cancelled

I propose using the GP FS marks already scored or to be scored in the current season by the TEB competitors.

Any final decision to resolve this issue will be unfair to a certain extent, but it's only a sport, and a one time dilemma.

eta. Ah, I just noticed Ilvsakting already proposed the same idea. I waited to post till I finished reading this thread but someone else posted about the same time. :)

Since the president of the Russian Federation has filed a protest to the plan of using short program results, I'm guessing that he's volunteering to pay all costs associated with whatever plan he has cooked up.

Has he? Really? Who said that?

I have an idea: use skaters' LP score from this GP season, either the one from SA, SC , COC, or the upcoming ones. Postpone the result to ten end of the last one. This might benefit skaters who will skate in Japan and Russia legs as I assume skaters are getting better with the season unfold, but I think it is a better solution than using PB from last season.

The best thing is to consider skate the LP on Sunday, followed by ex, or move it to another country this weekend, say China? as I guess they still have everything set up:) and it is probably the only country that could make it happen.

The most fair thing to do is to have the competition without audience. so it's safe, with no added cost comparing with cancellation.

I love this idea, but I doubt it'll happen. It seems like it's SP results or nothing, from what I've seen on Twitter. Moving it to china seems implausible, but GP scores could definitely be used.

Well, that would unquestionably disqualify Tuktamysheva. And it would not majorly affect Ice Dance.

SP results are final results.

I think it's only fair way. I understand people getting angry of some of their favourites getting out because of that, and I would be too, but that's how it is sometimes.

I don't think it's fair at all. Hold another event with just the long program for those who want to compete. That would be the fairest way.

I agree with this idea - it is more fair and viable than other suggestions

I have been thinking about this idea as well. Tukt will almost match her last GP event result, most other skaters will not be affected too bad. And the skaters who did well in SP at TEB will still be kept happy.

I am a bit bemused by how many posters that think that hypothetical results are okay to use as real results when we all know that people have peaks and troughs of their careers and sport is based upon performance on the day.

I am equally bemused by how many posters that think that sports events can be magicked up in days with the money and planning for elite athletes, volunteer judges and officials to jet around the world worked out at a moment's notice.

Yes, it is clear some people either don't understand or are not thinking about costs. For instance the proposal to move everyone to a different country, maybe China, right now, to have them compete in a few days. Who is going to pay the airfare? who is going to pay for room and board? Who is going to pay for the venue? It's not that it's the worst idea if money didn't exist in the world or was limitless, but since it's not the idea is just totally crazy I am sorry.

French skating fed president shamefully decries Bompard cancellation, via

Dear Philip, since I know you are looking in this thread, we are sorry for those that have fallen and we are sad for the people of France.

And while I personally agree with the cancelation and use of the short program places as final, people in this thread are discussing posibles paths that could be taken... cheers...

Perhaps one option could be to rank all skaters on one GP event. The non-TEB skaters will get the better of the 2 events, and the TEB competitors will get the better of the 2 SP scores added to the FS score they already had / will have in their next event. This would narrow the advantage of those who had 2 events & also be a contingency if there's any decision to pull the plug on Rostelecom next week.

Not saying I don't feel for all those affected by this attack, but have you any idea how many people are dying /right this moment/?? This is getting the spotlight because it was a terrorist attack and happened in Paris.

Life goes on.

I really wouldn't have cancelled it, If the city doesn't feel it can keep people safe that's a big shame,
But if it's out of respect than that's their decision and that's that.

This comment is a big bull. France is in state of alert. If you think people would give a a damn about a GP FS competition you better wake up. What the hell does it mean "if the city doesn't feel to keep people safe"?!:rolleye: Do you think the city of Paris "didn't feel to keep people safe" last night?!:frown: What on earth are talking about?!

Here is my best shot at a translation. I admit though that I don't agree with the reasoning used.

If we take into account only the short- there will be mass protest. said the Journalist Trankov. I am sure that the Canadian Federation will launch a protest. Patrick Chan will surely not remain out of the Final. How is it possible to exclude people from the Final due to a Force majeur.
I consider that we must make a protest on behalf of Liza (Tuktymesheva was 5th after the short program). How to leave out of the Final the current World Champion? It is simply dishonorable treatment of athletes (sportsmen and women)! The competition has not finished. I have a positive solution (a bit of trouble translating this). But speaking of other people, I don't consider it just. added the figure skater.

"Journalist Trankov"

Seriously though, they could expand the number of skaters/pairs in the GPF by four in singles and two in pairs. That would level the playing field, as it would give those skaters who had placed high in a previous GP and had a fighting chance to place well in the overall standings in TEB a chance to make it to the GPF. It would also let us skating fans see more skaters perform in the GPF--I for one have wanted them to increase the number of skaters in the GPF anyway.
