Team Alexei Mishin

It just occurred to me that it might be worth noting in this thread about Papa Mishin's upcoming 75th birthday, and the accompanying celebratory show that is to be held.

Copying from adelia's post in Petrov's fan fest thread:

"Alexei Mishin - 75!

Honored coach of Russia on figure skating, professor Alexei Mishin trained three Olympic champions - Alexei Urmanov, Alexei Yagudin, Evgeni Plushenko, current World champion Elizaveta Tuktamysheva.

In 1970, the master of sports of international class Alexey Mishin moved to coaching. Over the years he taught several generations of athletes.

Today Alexei continues to work and train young skaters, worthy of representing St. Petersburg at national and international competitions.

Cool that you'll be going, sugarpova! You know what that means, though, don't you?;) We'll expect you to tell us all about it!:) Oh, and have fun too, of course - but mostly, tell us all about it.;)

I wonder if there will be any other interesting skaters who haven't been announced...at his 70th jubilee, there was Konstantin, Johnny Weir, Stephane Lambiel, etc. The full show is on Vimeo if anyone is interested (there's a loooot of talking interspersed with the skating, though):

and in 2011 Vancouver was a year before so Lambiel was grateful to Mishin because he improved Lambiel's jump.

Yes, full reports please!!! I am also interested to see if any other skaters will end up making an appearance :)

well I ended up buying the most expensive tickets:laugh:

great interview!
I like his approach of 'difficulties make progress' If a person is talented he will make it possible to improve & do your thing in the most difficult of times. Yeh its probably not the fav mentality nowdays when it more like 'participation can be a reward in it self' & 'give everyone a medal'

Yeah, my favourite Mishin-ism from the interview was: "The medal isn't going to hang itself on your neck." Classic Papa Mishin.:)

@sugarpova - I hope your splurging pays off and you get a spendid view! (Which said view you can then relay to us secondhand. Remember the lyrics in your fav skater's last year's LP: "We're coooooounting on youuuu!";))
