2016 Team Challenge Cup - Gen Info/Pre-chat

From Captain's Pick, we know that Satoko is definitely in (or else Rika would not be in the Fan vote)
Elizabet Tursynbaeva is also in (or Li Zijun would not be in the Fan vote)

Denis and at least one Japanese man is also in (Yuzu, Shoma, Mura or Dai), because if they are not then Misha Ge would not be in the fan vote.

Thx, but you missed my point.

I was and am amused that we do not know the identity of the Captain of Team Asia .. but we now do know the identities of the nominees for the fan voting picked by the as-yet-anonymous Captain of Team Asia.

I guess I am easily amused .

The age and gender breakdown is fascinating. ...

But where is the software getting the demographic data for each individual voter?

I voted (or at least I think I did?) without ever being required to give any information about myself in any way whatsoever -- not by age, not by gender, not by name ...

Kovtun seems to be quite a bit more popular than English-language forums would lead one to believe...I had a feeling about that (although I did vote for Mikhail).

Since the polls will be open for quite awhile, it will be interesting to see how the numbers change, especially after Worlds. If you zoom in on the map you can see the #1 of votes per country. Alexei is winning Belarus, Finland, and Brazil for now, but with just 1 vote. And he's winning 5 US states, which is more than some Republican candidates can say.

This is kind of like Eurovision!

The nominees were likely decided before a Captain was even selected. It's not random coincidence that all the Team Captains independently selected exactly 3 nominees for all 6 categories. How dumb do they think we are?

If you select the view demographics option, the website asks you for your information (but you can skip it and remain anonymous, supposedly.)

Yes, I skipped it.

So I don't see how the demographics can be reliable.

Buoyang Jin is ahead of Misha:shame: we've only gotten to see Misha at one event so far this year.

Agreed that the uniformity of three per category is not a coincidence.

But my opinion is that it does not mean that the Captains did not pick the six nominees for their respective teams.

karne voted this way:

ASIA
Rika Hongo
Boyang Jin (MOAR QUAD LUTZ!)

EUROPE
Evgenia Medvedeva
Mikhail Kolyada (NO KOVTUN)

NORTH AMERICA
Ashley Wagner
...duh.

But, as predicted, Max is getting slaughtered. Knew it. Knew it would happen. He stood no chance against a popular "arteeste".

So I don't see how the demographics can be reliable.

Given that it's voluntary, the demographics could be as reliable as an exit poll. In this case, it seems this website voting method is open to various forms of voter fraud, like voting multiple times on different machines or browsers, or other means for an individual to vote dozens or even hundreds of times. But in that scenario, not only would the demographics be unreliable, so would the entire fan vote too.

At such an early stage, the demographics are completely worthless. Many skaters are winning entire countries and continents with just a single vote.

For the Asian Fan-picks too...Japan and China want Jin.
Also, Japan is voting more than any other country it seems.

It's the middle of the night in Europe & very early a.m. in western Russia, so it's not too surprising (although I'm sure Japan will end up casting the most votes overall in the end). Many people may not be aware that they can vote already, as it's still March 8 here.

Interesting that Shoma isn't a captain's pick. It might be possible that he's already on the team? One more day until we know.

How would that work? Would the event organizers ignore the posted event rules, and force the Team Captains to apply a different, secret set of rules? Or would they just allow the Team Captains to make their selections, and then the organizers would modify the Captain's choices later to meet their own liking for the fan vote?

Well, I voted for the person who's already in the lead in every category but NA men... good to see people agree with me on most of these :)

I voted for:

LADIES
Elena Radionova, Alaine Chartrand, Rika Hongo  (Also, why the heck was Mao not nominated?)

MEN
Maxim Kovtun :slink: (I LOVE HIS WEIRD FREE SKATE OK), Max Aaron, Han Yan

Elena is in the lead, as is Rika, so I hope they'll both get picked. However, Elena has only 4% on Evgenia, so I'm not sure...vote for her, guys!

Huh, I forgot about that. Weird. And Mao, too-they'd both be considered rather obvious winners, and Mao especially could give the event a popularity boost.

Yeah, the winner for each category is already extremely obvious. No reason to even have this poll really, other than to give the fans an illusion of control. Top skaters for all three teams aren't even nominated... I guess they didn't want to go to TCC and declined the fan vote? I thought you had to win the vote before you could decline the event, but obviously there was some decision-making going on before the voting selections even got to us.

Mao's got a show at that time...Shoma probably has a show too. Isn't he in the cast of Stars on Ice Japan?
