2016 Team Challenge Cup - Day 1

I'm still trying to figure out how this competition will work  So what was the point of today if the scores don't carry over? Does today even factor into the final team standings?

I'm editing to correct my previous post, which was wrong.

I re-read the site; the explanation seems different than what I'd remembered from reading previously.
The short program scores were used to determine the "singles team champion" (and also to give a $5,000 bonus to the top female and top male score), but WILL NOT be added to Saturday's FS scores for the overall TEAM title.

I'm wondering if jet lag was an issue for the Russian skaters...maybe they should've come a bit earlier to the US. The time difference between Moscow and Spokane is 3hrs more than Moscow/Boston... :( Or maybe they just partied too hard last night!
Well, Kolyada found out about competing 3 days ago, while doing new programs🙈 Don't expect much from him tbh since he probably lost his form and it was impossible to gain it back in such short time.

Today's individual scores were used to calculate team points, which carry over and count in the final team standings.
All of tomorrow's individual scores will be based on FS only, with the standings converted into team points.

The Day 1 team points will be added to the Day 2 team points to determine the team standings.

So the points do carry over? Some say they don't

The don't carry over per the Format on the Team Challenge web site.

It say there is more than $600,00 in prize money, but they don't explain it very well.

Some great skates tonight but I'm still of the opinion that Team events should go at the beginning of the season, Worlds is the climax and I imagine skaters are just exhausted after. It'll be good for people to get together as a team and have fun, show off new programs in a more low pressure environment.

From the announcement:

Singles Team Short Program Winners will be crowned based on the total team points, an aggregate of the points earned by a team in each flight

 First Place – Team Prize Money $60,000 ($10,000/singles athlete)
 Second Place – Team Prize Money $42,000 ($7,000/singles athlete)
 Third Place – Team Prize Money $30,000 ($5,000/singles athlete)

 The highest scoring Individual TCC Short Program Skater in Ladies and Men will be recognized in arena and receive an additional $5,000 each.

End quote from announcement.

Nothing carries over to tomorrow.

I think that would be a good idea, but it would have to be before the Grand Prixs start. That would put in around late September / early October at the latest.

Two observations:
1. What a weird tournament. Even awkward at moments. But still nice to see world skaters in their off-season relaxed mood.
2. Elena Radionova: a success has little value if it comes without falls and disappointments. Get together girl, get up, work hard, and the success will come.

Nice to see Instagram photos of the skaters in Spokane. Aren't they staying at The Davenport Grand? My favorite hotel there. I wonder who is staying in my usual room.... :)

got it... but then if you really want to avoid superfluous posts, just delete without a trace... i think the thumbs up feature allows up to concur without posting ;) in other words (will that make me redundant ??? LOL) when I see I have repeated something, I delete my post and give thumbs up to the similar post ;)
deleted ;) ... b/c of inadvertent redundancy.

but there is japan open then.. that's the issue

Oh yeah, oops. Guess it won't really workout unless it's at the end of the season. World Team Trophy will be next year though, correct? Since it's biannual. So, I wonder if TCC will even take place next year. And presumably more skaters will be doing Four Continents next year since it's the test event for the Olympics, so the season will feel longer for those who usually skip it. As a result, people may not really want to do any team events after worlds.

Congrats to Shoma on first 4F ! But if it would be fair it should get GOE deduction for no steps

Seriously do not like the MC. He is annoying and doesn't come of genuine. They should replace him. Yes, the skaters are there to win money, but do the organizers have to make it look so obvious?

So glad to see the crowd clapping for the skaters after they made mistakes because some of them look like they were about to give up.

Congrats team asia! Hope Boyang's wrist is okay.
