As someone who liked her performance in SOCHI a lot for she really attacked the program, skated with a lot of energy instead of Kim skating a bit understated with a program not playing to her strenght (les Mis were much better for her IMO) I think she isn't able to repeat that very moment at all. Like Sarah Hughes she hit the mood that very evening (both on home soil) and was lucky enough to be in contention after the short (better skated than Hughes, who shouldn't have placed in 5th). She has never skated nearly as good and by chance she did it twice. It's good she wants more and loves skating to try again after injury, but as things are it's impossible and doesn't do her any favour. How many skaters dreaming of the OGM never get even close to it?

Sarah Hughes was in fourth after her short program. Are you saying she should have been fifth? I'm confused.

Then gorgeous spinner Lozko, sensational late bloomer Konstantinova, surprisingly amazing Zagitova, Samodurova...
[Pity we won't see the youngest Tarusina, who is a great talent, vivid and solid performer and Mukhortova, with her I-spins and artistic abilities.]

I'm not sure if she thinks she can make the team with less than 100% effort, but it's clear that it will be impossible without full commitment. Julia did not make the team as the reigning WSMist and Liza did not make the team as a reigning world champion. The depth is just insane in Russia. In other countries you could have kind of an ok season and hope to catch lightning in a bottle like Ashley did in Boston. In Russia you have to be great all season to get to worlds.
The trouble with that scenario is that it seems the ladies burn out after a few seasons. It has to get to them after a while---competing day in, day out at home and being expected to win every time internationally, too.
Sure, the young ones overtake the older ones, but then inevitably, they are going to burn out, too.
IMO, Sotnikova is smart if she sticks to pro events and forgets about trying for the Russian team. She doesn't have the motivation for the daily grind, and as she has said, her family needs the money she can make doing shows.

For some reason I don't place too much hope on Anastasia Gubanova. She is very short, and I am not sure how much taller she can get. She needs to grow taller, and stay slim. Her jumps look very mediated, and muscled out. But still miles better than Serafema.

Yes. I think she needs to grow much taller to keep a slim profile. I see more Japanese ladies jump well while staying relatively "stocky". Anastasia has great SS for her age, but a lot of times that does not equal reliable jumps.

Her hair reminds me of Native Indian, or Central Asia muslin? It must be some sort of folk music. I actually start to think it is a piece of music that is hard to skate to.
