Elena Ilinykh & Ruslan Zhiganshin

Glad to hear something good about them. Hope they skate great and break those predictions that mostly put them at 4th.

There are people that just vote based on rankings or placements of the challengers havent seen the skaters programs or anything. Or they vote based on liking. So no worry here. The SD is great , I have watched the step sequence so many times now:) Cant wait to see the whole program.

Really really happy to see Elena in blue and sparkles... :) And Ruslan is like a Hollywood star (so happy that he kept his hair longer).

They both looked stunning today. This was my first time seeing Elena in person and she could sell ice to a snowman - she's just that committed and into what she does.

I know there have been some questions about their coaching - both Kustarova and Igor were there, standing next to each other by the boards. Igor has several other teams at Skate America so obviously they got a lot of his attention too. When I saw Elena and Ruslan at the boards they were almost always talking to Kustarova, though I do think I saw Igor talk to them a little too. Guess we'll just have to wait and see whose in the Kiss & Cry with them.

I've just watched their practice - they look great! And judging from the photos, they seem to be enjoying themselves enormously! The costumes are in a universe of their own - simply no comparison with the other teams that I've seen. Elena looks ethereally beautiful in this stardust dress, and Ruslan is so elegant in a tuxedo.

Thank you very much to everyone who shared information!

A couple of people who watched the practice wrote:
Elena Ilinykh sings and dances to all the warm-up music, and it's making life worthwhile.
Elena's smile could brighten the darkest of days for reals.
Dying over this dress.

I can't wait to see the whole thing close-up, and hope for fair judging.

a bit underwhelmed by that, hopefully getting better videos during the actual SD competition will give me a better impression of their readiness.

Can Ruslan try slick back hairstyle? I think It will look tidier and Elena can try the classic hairstyle she had in 214 SD.

I'm worried by what some folks are writing about them in the SA threads. I wish Ruslan and Elena all the best tomorrow, and hope this is their breakthrough season. :points:

I`m trying to see it from the bright side. The reaction to their Short Dance has been so overwhelmingly negative that anything above a 4th or 5th place (yes there are people who think they will fall behind Guignard/Fabbri) can be considered as a success.

I don't know how people can make such confident judgements so quickly. One video, from the far end of the rink of one practice, not even a full run through, and posters think they can say exactly what will happen.

From my perspective - the lift looked really secure, blues was confident, but could use a bit more speed, the non touching sequence was snappy and full of energy. Sure, it's not the most earth shattering choreo, but it clearly picks up the mood of both blues & swing & in practice they were really performing it. It's definitely a better start than last year.

After I watched the video I was actually very happy with the program. I`m just going to wait for what the judges are going to say, because I`m at a loss for words about some of the reactions I`ve read.

It seems some posters want to hate everything that Igor does and try to look for anything to reinforce their claims that Lena is lazy...

I'm trying to be positive too, but am apparently too nervous for it to work. :confused2: I wonder if Shpilband can pull off something like what he did for Chock/Bates' SD last year, should IZ's SD not win the judges' love. Or can he?
I somehow thought that it was Shpilband and Bourzat who were doing the choreo but I guess I wasn't paying attention properly, it says it was A/K and Najarro. Well, that would explain some similarities to previous programs, wouldn't it? I wish they'd switched to Shpilband permanently, but if money's the issue, not much can be done about it.
Fingers crossed, though, for RusLena!

It`s becoming quiet ridiculous. Some posters are trashing everything about her: her dress should be shorter, her hair should be different, she is lazy, she isn`t motivated, she has bad skating skills, Ruslan has to drag her around the rink... It never stops!

Anyway, the next dance practice should be starting soon, so hopefully we will get new pictures and videos.

Then you can cry :(
Only kidding, I don't think they will do that badly ;)

I wanted to say that I would drink instead of cry, but then remembered I'm taking antibiotics, oh well. There's always Nutella.

okay, so I haven't been paying much attention during this break, so I must have missed it. Are they not at Shpilband's permanently? I thought Shiplband was their primary coach now and they were training in Detroit permanently. So, is that not the case? Are there funding/political issues?
