Anna Pogorilaya

I agree with everything you just said , but....no, Ashley earned her silver last year.

Well, not to take anything away from Ashley, who skated to the best of her abilities and had the crowd behind her, I respectfully disagree, given that Ashley had underrotations and a step out, while Anna had neither of these and a higher difficulty program that she skated beautifully. But please note, I posted my opinion in Anna's fan page instead of the general forum for a reason.

Anna's timing has always been bad. She deserved to be on the podium at 2014 Worlds, and to be honest, she even deserved the silver medal at that competion, but she competed against Olympic Medalist Carolina Kostner's swan song and Julia Lipnitskaia's signature Schindler's List....

2016 Worlds. I was okay with Ashley's silver, but outside of the US she wouldn't have gotten it. I so hope that Anna's getting so consistent now that the judges will refrain from making such mistakes again, overlook her, and treat her like second tier. I think her past experiences can help her for that Olympic Gold Medal. What doesn't kill you....I think Evgenia has not been tested so far. Her programs are so similar to last years, because she has no reason to change, to evolve, to push herself.

For the future, Anna's prospects are bright. I'm curious about NHK. She should be able to win it. And finally get a Grand Prix Final medal as well.

^ Yes, Anna was robbed at WC even when she skated clean back to back. She should have been 2 time WC silver medalist now. But regardless, she can be proud of herself.
I am just worried about Finland. It seems that place is a bit hostile towards Russian skaters.

Really? Why is that?

I'm not sure if Anna should go to the Olympics as reigning World Champion, anyway. Evgenia looks too good for that to be happening right now. And if Tuktamysheva and/or Mao bring back the 3A...who knows.

Why do you think that?

Only, I've been to Finlandia Trophy 5 years in a row... there are always Russian competitors there, it seems quite a popular competition for them... I've always thought they were as well-received by the audience as everyone else... I have never thought scoring was biased against them.

Either Finnish fans (at Finlandia) simply appreciate good skating and leave world politics etc at the door.... or they are at least polite and well-mannered enough to keep quiet about any prejudices they have.

So, if there is any anti-Russian sentiments at World's, personally I will be surprised if it comes from the Finnish fans...

I am talking about the judging. I think they're quite hash against Russian skaters this year at Finlandia. But of course it depends on tech and judge panel

Well, as I said I've personally never felt that way the times I've been there.

But I don't think there's any comparison anyway - World's is different. Finlandia is a comparitively "little" competition, whereas World's is comparitively "high-stakes" and "big-money". And wherever there is "big money", there is more danger of corruption...

I think it's way too early to be making any kind of predictions about Worlds - we're talking about something almost 5 months away! I just hope Anna can keep building momentum and stay fairly consistent. Let's get past Russian Nats first of all...

Every time I see her she appears more and more confident, which was missing before. If it settles and solidifies she will be a true force. In fact, she already is.

Anna really proved her value in Moscow last week - strong and confident in both programs, adding some spice in EX, regal attitude and self-carriage on ice. She really developed past two season - so much maturity, sophistication and class about this young lady. She skated with drama and emotions so amazingly tuned to match the music and choreography. She establishes herself as a true contender in any competition and confirms that her beauty shines mostly in her skating.

I just watched Anna FP again and realized that she had done 2A twice and neither in combination. Can you do that for doubles without BV being reduced?

Slay this weekend, Anna my love!!!

Exciting to hear about the 3Lo-3Lo but that combo is SO rarely ratified in international competition that I'm not sure I'd really advocate incorporating it at this time...

True, that's why she probalby didn't include it yet, but I think it's a good idea to raise BV :) And raising it by not doing all jumps in second half + tano everything is a plus for me ;)

Wow that is ambitious... call me selfish, but I'd love her to be the new Russian #1... i love the power speed quality in her skating, and thought she'd make a far more convincing lady world champion than a little cute girl (who really need a few years to prove herself and not chosen just because of consistency/safe bet and the more commercially viable because she likes sailor moon).

I love Anna's interviews, she's so self-aware and realistic, she gives great answers and I'm impressed by her every time. She's so modest, not ever thinking she's undermarked, I don't agree with that but she has a great attitude. Hoping for good things for her at NHK Trophy, her LP is one of my favourite programs this season.
