2016-2017 State of Canadian Figure Skating

^Good find! They all look kinda not amused?? FS didn't go as planned, it seems. Where are those protocols, I wonder...

I call this musical pairs!

I think Marissa and Mervin have a good relationship so it would be sad for her if Mervin split with her. Right now Justine needs a junior age eligible partner. Francis doesn't fit the bill. Maybe in a few years when JSF's moved on... I am gonna leave it up to Bruno and Richard to work their magic and find someone for Justine. Though I'm still wondering what Mervin was doing at Canadian Ice Academy. Is he coaching the baby pairs there? That'd be nice to see!

Trennt and her won gold in the junior pairs event, while Lori-Ann and Thierry won silver.

We have two more teams competing today in junior ice dance.

Medals count
20 gold, 14 silvers, 14 bronze = 48 medals in total

sorry patrick didn't add to the medal count today.... but we all know that for him, medals are not the goal...

sending love to our boys, especially nam who skated a very strong program to finish 8th after a disastrous carotted SP!!!

WOW ... he had the highest TES in all Canadian boys... and some

Wow, Justine looks like a young Kylie Minogue in this shot....from her "Locomotion" days.

It should also be noted, that top scores for Kaetlyn and Gabby and some others, were achieved outside of home soil. "Homeflation" as we know, can at times, benefit a skater from that country. Or, as a ceratin poster use to say, "I would like to see her get that score outside of Canada".

And, ...they both did!

Poor Kaetlyn. She started so strong in the long and then it feel apart in such a sad way. That salchow on her hip had to hurt. It looked like one of those falls that just cause your leg to sort of go numb. She's a fabulous total package skater, so I'll keep rooting for her. She can only go up after that competition!
Because I find Mai's skating still quite juniorish, the lady of the event for me was Gabby! I've always loved her strong skating and huge jumps, and am really glad she largely held it together and got a well deserved silver here. I know a few people aren't fond of the Rhapsody in Blue program, but I really like it. The music can be powerful at times, but she handles it well. And her dress is one of my favorites this year :luv17:
None of the American ladies are having a banner year this year, so it's nice to have two very strong neighbors from the north to cheer for. I'm sure they'll both show up strong at Worlds.

4everchan don't worry it's been a week of 4th places for many of our skaters. Natalie & Bruce, Catherine, Aurora, Corey, Kaetlyn, and Patrick. There's still time and room for improvement. Just got to keep positive.

siberia82 that's a great shot! I also found the following photos by FS Evolution of the junior boys in the FS

Marjorie Lajoie / Zacahary Lagha came 2nd in junior ice dance by 0.02 points. So close! This it the first time they've gone over 140 points, and they had a unofficial PB in the FD. Ashlynne Stairs / Lee Royer came 3rd. Congrats!

no need to rush for 40 medals when we end up with 50 two days later

You cannot fake humility and sincerity. Many skaters can learn from her example (even Gabby, who I love), especially in the KnC. Kaetlyn earned my complete RESPECT, after the Sal. As much pain and disappointment she was feeling in a moment. she remained committed to her program, with a smile and fighting the tears, she showed all of us that she has, eternal grace.

I have to say I was not impressed with gabby attitude in the kiss and cry and on the podium. She looked furious. I saw a few tweets saying at least 2/3 of the podium is happy to be here. Does not look good on Canada. Ok she lost the gold but she still got silver !!

exactly, I was very much confused for all those falls, especially after excellent beginning, but I have to give it to her for staying in the character and carry performance spirit until the very end. A lot of skaters would falter performance-wise just after this first fall...Another thing I'm drawing for her FS is that she seems to treat the performance as a whole experience, not separating exclusively jumps, tech and interpretation/expression, in her case it is all linked together, but failing on one side does not mean to crash in others too. Very mature and well-rounded competitor she is. Lots of health!

I think it is just part of maturing process to not take things so seriously. I admire Gabby's fierceness, she just needs to learn that there will be ups and downs in skating, it's part of the process. Hey you're 19, an elite athlete, seeing the world and representing your country. Enjoy the ride!

The last time I saw Gabby at an ISU event she was absolutely devastated and sobbing. Seeing her displeased is something I'll take over the heartbreak. A Osmond4gold says, Gabby is a fierce competitor. She's also trying to convince the judges that she deserves to be the top Canadian lady in the face of Kaetlyn's strong season. She's aiming high, so faltering as she did in the FS with a chance to win it all was an unpleasant situation to be in. It takes time for most of us to process results, but for these guys the turnaround time between competition, victory ceremony, and press conference is pretty quick. Give her some time to reflect. And now I've got more appreciation for Kaetlyn handling her FS with smiles...that girl's been through a lot and is a seasoned competitor with excellent self control.

Some more Bavarian Open photos to share with you guys. The kiss & cry photos come from Siobhan Karam.

I'd be curious to know how much more competition experience Kaetlyn has overall than Gabby. It might not as much as one would expect because of Kaetlyn's injuries over the years.

Marjorie & Zach with Romain
That would be Pascal Denis.

.

IMO Gabby had had just as much experience as Kaetlyn. By some measures, she has had more.

Kaetlyn
1 Olympics
2 worlds
3 4CC
5 GP events (plus another where she withdrew after the short)
1 GPF
5 nationals (sr)

Gabby
1 Olympics
3 worlds
2 4CC
6 GP events
0 GPF
5 nationals (sr)

Just responding to the question that was asked. I don't think Gabby behaved poorly on the podium at all.

Beyond the events listed, Kaetlyn has performed in SOI for a few years now, so IMO, there are benefits to this type of show skating; from connecting with others and "the value", of being in the company of current stars and legends of the sport, all the while performing on a nightly basis and recognizing that the audience is the patron, and the reason you are here.

The other thing is, Gabby is 19 while Kaetlyn is 21, or years apart in terms of maturity and perspective. It was for me anyway. Does anyone else remember their first year of university and turning 19? Cringe worthy at times and as 4everchan says, the bars on the Grand Alley in Quebec City, still remember and miss me ...I bet! ;)

I would have thought she'd be thrilled to be on an ISU Championship podium after all those 4th places in the GP and seeing redemption after losing to Kaetlyn at Nationals. But maybe we should cut her at least a little bit of slack, since at 19, it's her first major international podium and she probably had envisioned herself on top of it since winning the SP. I hope after she sees videos of the medal ceremony she will realize that her attitude didn't reflect that well on herself.

Thanks chuckm, and I have no doubt that she will. Being in that position for the first time at an ISU event, comes without instructions.

Sounds like a stupid thing to be upset with, honestly.

She wanted gold. She was leading after the short program. Frankly, I was glad to see her not happy to settle with silver. I like the fire and the competitiveness - you can't settle for less than gold if you want to be the best.
