2016-2017 State of Canadian Figure Skating

I think it is just part of maturing process to not take things so seriously. I admire Gabby's fierceness, she just needs to learn that there will be ups and downs in skating, it's part of the process. Hey you're 19, an elite athlete, seeing the world and representing your country. Enjoy the ride!

I don't think there's a 19 year old on the Planet who doesn't like winning. I am very willing to cut Gabby some slack. I would imagine that if she's upset, it might be at herself. She may see this as a lost opportunity and that's something we can all relate to. She'll be back and hopefully, stronger than ever. She was ON the podium and that's what she should focus on. There are some skaters (Gracie Gold) who didn't even make it into the event. Hopefully she'll quickly let go of her disappointment and focus on Worlds.

Totally agree here

It's funny the way some folks are quick to cut on someone for not looking happy even considering the situation of how they skated less then their best and then turn around and criticize skaters for not performing their best.

Hopefully Gabby can just grow from this experience, move forward and one day be able to say that 2017 4CC was an important lesson. One of many I would imagine ;)

Honorary Canadian Ashley Wagner gave us the perfect quote today.

Ashley Wagner: People who are mean and bullying - are out of their own insecurity ... kill them with kindness, just be above it

Today was pink shirt day. Wear something pink to show you stand up to bullying. A fitting quote. 👌

so how many boys do we have with 4lz now???

Keegan, Nic, Conrad.... Stephen was so close in the video posted a while back, I am pretty sure it's there.

Come on Patrick :) go for your 4F :)

Keegan looks like getting national team status has helped stoke the fire to reach for the next level!

Last year, he came in 6th at nationals and just missed the national team, this year he came in 5th and just made the cut. With this comes not only funding through Sport Canada's athlete assistant program, but also access to the high performance camp and other Skate Canada supports, not to mention a likely berth at SC International if not invited to other GP events.

keegan is highly underrated...

at ACI, very early in the season, he was just AWESOME to watch... He is super fast, great spins, good jumps and is great with the crowd... Just trust yourself Keegan!

Don't forget Nick's quad loop as well...a double threat.

well with Nic, sky is the limit.. he also has a quad toe...

conrad has a quad toe, spotted with quad lutz and finally also has done the quad loop...

Stephen only has the quad sal for now but quad lutz on instagram and is he even 12 ?

I think we need to feel good here in Canada ;) our boys are picking up on the quads, and not just the slender fast rotators...

And it's really clear that Skate Canada, from high performance director Mike Slipchuck though the judges and the ramping of talent management, coaching development and skating programs and testing, is very committed to a balance between pushing on the technical envelope and having good skating skills and other program components.

I don't see a lot of forgiveness in the national system for skaters who only have one or the other.

And I think that's a good thing. We don't need skaters in any discipline that stall out at the international level because they are counting too much on either tech or on PCS. We've see in this quadrennial that those who count on their jumps alone may be surpassed by younger skaters with more jumps, and those who rely on PCS alone cannot overcome the BV gap.

Well, we will have a good laugh Mr. Rice, when you ask next month who Nic(K) Nadeau is...we'll just reply Shawn Mendes...lol ;) Or, a better looking Beiber, without the attitude, tats or bad boy behavior.

Shawn Mendes.......That's what I called because I couldn't remember his name. He is definitely a threat and good lookin' to boot. His jumps are amazing!

I don't know why people are still sharing the low-quality version of Nic's LP performance from Canadians, but if you want to better appreciate his skating and his looks, this vid's superior  : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=alg9vDg21jE&t=16m19s

Nic is my avatar, btw.
