So, how would my name be pronounced. In Japan, there was no sound "Qu" they pronounced my name as "Winton Lice" In Russia, it sounded kind of like "Kin-Ton" Maybe it was the announcers because once I say my name out loud, people usually understand it and it's never a problem.
hold on
if you say your name, people will pronounce it how they think you said it... very different
But if we read it, and that's what I was talking about, based on its spelling Quintin, it's another story. Kin-tin in French but the IN sound is like in Vin or Bain or Cain or Saint.
Qu in German for instance is pronounced KV

but they do have in more or less like English... kvintin
in any case, this may look so off-topic but it is at the same time so representative of Canada... I have a "bilingual" first name and a French surname (which is actually not too difficult) but when living in BC : only ONCE at the grocery store did I get my name pronounced properly

That store had a reward program and you would give your card and they would say Thank you Mr.... ^%&%&^%
So once, a girl said my name right and I said... wow... i have been coming here for ten years and you are the first to say it right...
And I heard a billion version... people thought it was polish, russian, jewish, french, english, swedish, danish.... etc... and added or removed letters as they saw fit.
In any case, I think PJ Kwong does a very god job announcing figure skating, and parts of it is because she seems to be a good and caring Canadian in looking at how to pronounce names
Segue back to Canadian Skating by bringing up PJ.
