Gabriella Papadakis & Guillaume Cizeron

Hummm.... Just found this article. I translated some parts...

http://www.rtl.be/sport/tous-les-sp...-par-les-canadiens-virtue-et-moir-905566.aspx

English translation ------------------

The 2010 Olympic champions and 2014 Olympic vice-champions felt frightened when Moir stumbled on a step sequence.
"They are not much penalised" noticed Haguenauer, also coach of the Canadian Team.
"Let's be objective, I have the feeling there are double standards" comparing with the 3 points lost by the French on their SD step sequences.

English translation ------------------

Papadakis and Cizeron's focus for next season : Delivering a short dance with a high level of performance similar to their free dance performances without loosing "the freedom won", dixit Cizeron.

I appreciate what Haguenauer said. He is honest
The good thing is that Gabriella and Guillaume broke their record on the free and they got all the public stand up immediately. I would never think that they would improve their world record in Helsinki (for me, V/M should never have been at 116...Or P/C deserved more ). Skating after P/C is very complicated .... It really happens "un truc" when P/C dance, something inexplicable.

A pleasure to have met you Alain:)

I'm aware people probably also check FSU so it feels like a double post to some of you. But for those of you who don't consult that other forum here is a translation of http://www.leparisien.fr/sports/on-est-comme-un-vieux-couple-04-04-2017-6824232.php I didn't translate everything because part of it is not new. But some answers are interesting esp. about their FD conception, V/M and partnership.

Do you design your choreographies thinking of the judges ?
Gaby: We try to create elements which can please a maximum of people. We shouldn't do elitist choreographies.
Guillaume: We have to be able to renew our style while keeping our interest at heart, finding things which please us but will also seduce others. It's always a delicate compromise between our inspirations and what can be competitive.

It's like diplomacy...
Gaby: A little yes. This year, our idea was much more extreme in terms of novelty and originality. Our coaches and the federation told us: "be careful, don't go too far, nobody will understand, you still have to win medals ! " At the beginning we were a bit frustrated but now that we see how much we touched people ...
Guillaume: We kept the essence of what we wanted. This program was mediocre if skated at 99%. At 100%, it's extraordinary. Below, it becomes utterly incomprehensible, cold. It's really on a knife's edge.

How are you gonna deal with the rivalry with V/M's ?
Gaby (always a hoot): we're gonna hide in the tiers with binoculars...
Guillaume: It's more a fight with oneself. We know we can beat them but we need to be at 100%. We skate better when we don't pay attention to the competition. The challenge is to honor our art without thinking about anything else. More than medals, creating magic on the ice is what has meaning for us.

What makes your partnership special ?
Guillaume: We're like an old couple, it's as if we've been married for 30 years. We started at 8/9 yrs old and we grew up together even more than with our respective siblings. It's truly a peculiar type of relationship. Those who skate for 4 to 5 years together are friends or colleagues. We share a deep history.
Gaby: A real difference between couples coming together before and after teenage years exists. We grew up together, we learn to skate together, we know each other perfectly. We know how to stand back when we don't agree.
Guillaume: I wonder how couples who can't stand each other manage. The emotions we deliver, it comes from the heart. If we couldn't stand each other, it would be difficult to find that type of truth in our souls.

Gabriella and Guillaume will not skate at the World Team Trophy

I would have liked to see their programs again but I think it is better for them, they will be able to rest a bit before resuming training for the Olympic season

Hey everyone! Super huge fan of P/C and saw the videos of the Facebook Live and RTL radio broadcast (posted above by maya1985)--man I really wish I understood French!! The two of them seem like so much fun :) If it's possible, could anyone translate any of what they said in those interviews?? Even just highlights would be amazing and appreciated!! Thank you!

If the videos are not translated as of this saturday in the afternoon, I'll try to do it, right now I'm short on time ;)

Christmas indeed!! Thanks:).

I love all they say about lifts needing to be beautiful, original and elegant, but not necessarily acrobatic and what Guillaume says about being a coward in terms of potentially hurting Gabriella and feeling dizzy for her (if I understood that correctly)...too cute!

I actually would love to watch them skate to a few moments of silence as Guillaume suggested...I think they can pull it off!

They should try it during an EX. No risk with the judges then. It would be gorgeous, just the sound of their blades.

my dream pick for them is the song : mistral gagnant by renaud. it's french fav song ever ( yeah ahead of edith piaf or je suis malade)

russians or americains don't know this song. but gosh it's just gorgeous the lyrics aren't adapte to a couple (it's a father talking to his daughter) but you don't need them the music itself works. i feel it could suits them perfectly.

it will mean so much to us to have them skate to that song.

here i put the piano version: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tF2b2XnsqWs

btw: i know coeur de pirate cover that song but the original is better.

So many cute videos!
I love their dynamic, and I guess it makes sense that people wonder whether they are a couple or not, haha...but it's great how they explained in another interview that the fact that they are not and never were helps them avoid all the tension/drama that those dance partners who are may face.

A pleasure to have met you Alain:)

Will post my comments about the Worlds in Helsinki next week end but there's one thing I can tell you right now...
During the free dance, I was lucky to meet a lovely member of this forum. Her name? maya1985 :)
Hope to see you next season Maya!
