2017-18 State of U.S. Ladies Skating

She backloaded all her jumps aside from her 2A! She still needs to develop her PCS, but she's well on her way! Last year she struggled with underrotations, but I'm happy to see her jumps are improved.

yeah, i know right? That's what I thought, seemed like she backloaded her jumps haha. Yep, her jumps improved, they look rounded to me in real time. I think she may have grown just a tiny bit taller, maybe's that's helped with her getting them all the way around.
I think she'll develop great artistry...she has nice body movement, uses her hands well. Excited.

I just saw this on youtube. Alysa Liu's new short program and freeskate. I think this young lady is coming along great.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uNZnFgZCBeM (short program)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fNtF7ewBsWo (long program)

I'm not sure how old she is, I'm guessing 12. I really like her long program. Hopefully she stays healthy and strong. Looking foward to seeing Alysa, Kaitlyn N., and Starr A, as well as the younger juvenile skaters break out...I saw some talented ones in the juvenile rank since seeing them on ice network.

Alysa will not be 12 until August.

That means that she will be age eligible for JGP for 2019-2020 season, still two seasons away.
Though skaters who were born in July and August seem to wait an extra year to be junior internationally,
Alysa has more time to develop skating skills to back up her awesome jumping ability before her debut.
She definitely got a potential to be a junior skater to compete with Russians, Japanese & Koreans.:yay:

Alysa is definitely playing the backloading card. Only one jump in the first half...and two 3-3s in the back half. We'll see how she develops.

Looks fantastic so far! I can't wait to see how it improves as the season goes on. (Also, is it just me or has she grown a lot? She looks a lot taller and more mature.)

On a semi-relevant note, I was looking for SoCal Interclub videos to edit and found Audrey Shin's new SP: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7n3YQnECmCo

Also looks very promising. Jumps are HUGE :jaw:, spins and footwork also look pretty strong. Air position could use work and I'd like to see her emote a bit more but so far it's looking great! Is she JGP-eligible this season?

If she is 13 as of that competition, then yes she would be old enough for JGP.

Audrey turned 13 in March

Topaz, that is exactly what I said......Good for her. It's nice to see a young skater really going for it at such a young age. Who are her coaches? Someone is giving her good training and more importantly, good choreography, and great costuming. What a great job of packaging for such a young girl.

Audrey looks very mature compared to last year but she still has that leg wrap. I thought Raf would fix that. Maybe it won't be a problem. Midori had one too.

yes, Alysa's def. grown a bit, I think it's why she's fully rotating them now. She got full credit according to her dad on the youtube comment.

Yeah, I saw that too. She looks promising as well. That was a triple flip triple toe. Alysa came in second after the short program. maybe it was Audrey that came in first. She is 13 years old. But Alysa came in first overall. I don't know the age-eligible requirements for JGP.

I think her main coach is Laura Lipetksy https://www.statsonice.com/skater/alysaliu/
I see her with another coach too, the man behind the boards
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jv6SUqNcumA

But I saw her work with Rudy Galindo too, in one of her competitions , he was behind the boards.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FX_LZ-TY748
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hXIk5jeRK68 (that's def. Rudy, right? He's from San Jose, and Alysa is from Oakland, so still local)

Way back, I posted this article on the forum about Alysa. She made it on Kron 4 local news and there is a video of her talking. http://kron4.com/2016/01/19/my-kron-4-girl-10-from-oakland-taking-skating-world-by-storm/

I think she's improved a lot in such a short time: speed, edges, transitions, conditioning, jumps.

I anticipate Kaitlyn and Starr to move up to senior next season domestically? I'm sure they will both receive JGP assignments. Hopefully Audrey Shin too, even though she didn't place super well at novice nationals last year (9th).

Ting Cui is also a very strong emerging skater with solid 3Lz-3Ts (I believe her coach posted them on Instagram). With her 2nd place finish on Novice last year, she could also be a prime pick for the JGP, if she's eligible.

Yeah, I think Starr aand Kaitlynn will move up to seniors domestically. Yeah, hopefully so will Audrey. Yeah, I 've seen Ting Cui, another talent. And don't forget there are some talented younger ones I saw from the juvenile field.

I'm hoping to see some of these young talents on the JGP next season - that kind of international experience is crucial. No more sending 16-18 year old ladies to JGPs, please.

It's a shame the U.S. only has 7 ladies entries on the JGP next season.

I'm thinking Tessa Hong will get an early assignment, as if she does well, she'll have a chance to qualify for the JGPF.

After that, USFS will probably look to ladies who got an international junior assignment last year and showed some promise: Alexia Paganini, Ashley Lin, and Starr Andrews. I'd be surprised if any of these ladies have the potential to qualify for the JGPF (maybe Starr).

Throw in Kaitlyn Nguyen, Audrey Shin, Ting Cui, and Angelina Huang (1st in novice last year and showing some real signs of promise), and somebody talented ends up missing out.

I think summer monitoring competitions will have a big impact on the assignments.

Interesting that Courtney hicks doesn't have a GP assignment. I know she's done poorly at nationals for the past, like, 3 years, but she has 2 GP medals. Is she on a substitute list? Or is the usfsa still monitoring summer competitions and practices to decide who gets on substitute lists or senior B's? Is there international assignments hope for amber or Courtney or Paige or bradie???
