Ladies OGM Contenders 2018

i don't count on good programs and costumes... i actually miss seeing her... and i hope she will be back with her dubious programs and garments as in some ways, it's a trademark of hers LOL... and it gives me something to talk about LOL

I don't either - and I'm a fan!

Anyway, I'd "just" settle for her having her jumps back - and her feistiness & fire.:)

I agree with BOP. 100 percent.

Med makes like a full rotation on the ice before being in the air. Insane! Look, she has a lot of strengths...her non 3T jumps are gorgeous. She has wonderful ss, spins, commitment. She can win with >3toes. But she shouldn't get away with it. Really. Not fair. And oh that flutz should be called too.

On mirai: go for 3a. It is looking good. And agree with one poster here who said she really shud go for it. It is giving her renewed confidence, likely improves her rotation speed and makes her a much darker horse.

I would say Karen Chen should not get GOE for her 3-3

That's insane, her 3-3 is huge and the landings are controlled. Coming down 1/4 short on the second jump when you are putting so much power into the combination is not a big deal. If she cheated her toeloop entrance and swung around more on the takeoff and then appeared to be "less underrotated" on the landing, it would still be exactly the same amount of rotation and wouldn't make the jump better. It would only seem "more rotated" based upon a nonsensical criteria.

In the past Karen used to actually underrotate her 3Toe combo, this is what it looked like - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zhfQE6hAsY0&t=1m15s - There's a visible difference between that cheated landing and what she does now.

In a toe-axel, the skater will rotate their body forward prior to picking, and then place the pick onto the ice facing forward

Not entirely accurate. Someone can pick into the ice and then swing their skating leg to forward. It's not just one single way.

Similarly, in terms of looking at when the toepick goes into the ice to determine where the jump starts, that isn't the most accurate method. People have different timings of when they toepick in and use the vault. Some people turn a little more on their skating leg first and then toepick in and turn less on the toepick during the takeoff. Their jumps shouldn't be considered as starting later. Looking at the knee bend is the most important aspect. Otherwise how would you decide when to call an edge jump as starting, since it's only 1 leg on the ice in those jumps.

I think the Gold is Evegnia's to lose, but I am hoping to see a lot of terrific skating- that everyone brings their A game and it's not only about technical points. There is a lot to be said about artistry. :)

I have a bad feeling that evgenia will win gold with the exact same program she's been doing for the past 2/3 years.☹️ It's not that she is a bad skater; in fact I think she's one of the best!
Unfortunately though, it is definitely a game of technical points. Especially when considering that PCS are not given to everyone correctly.

I think that Alexandra Trusova made a clear case for featuring in the Ladies OGM Contenders 2022 topic:agree:

That's what I love about Tuk! She's like the "Snooki" of figure skating. If you haven't seen "The Jersey Shore" you might not know who she is but, she was an over the top, yet very talented Gymnast and Cheerleader. I'm very excited to see Tuk make a huge comeback.

Here's Snooki Cheerleading. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4vJY5R0jyic

Then you must be watching with your eyes closed. Her triple loops, in particular, are almost always gorgeous.

Totally agree. Ashley's loops are gorgeous and her non-underrotated jumps are generally smooth (in addition to the loop, her flip and lutz(!) have particularly great flow out). I find her form in and out of jumps to be more aesthetically than the Russians to be perfectly honest.

Gorgeous isn't the word that I will use to describe Wagner's jumps. I enjoy her presentation but her jumps not.

I've only seen Ashley in person once and that was way back in 2011. I completely agree with you about her presentation. It's funny because she and Alissa Czisny, who won, were the 2 skaters who I remembered for their presentation more than their jumps. Rachael Flatt and Mirai actually the 'Highest" jumps. Mirai won the SP, I think, and then didn't have a great long. The thing I liked about Ashley was her fire and determination. When she was warming up, she would fist pump for herself when she landed something big. She's a tiny little thing and it was shocking to see because she's such a big performer.

I very specifically described her triple loops as gorgeous. I did not describe ALL of her jumps that way.

People say she has successfully landed 3A in her FS. It's a pity there is no video atm (

It was a mistake. She did 2A.

Here's her protocol

Protocol

But in her recent interview she said that she's working hard on her 3A and it's almost there.

I agree, Ashley has a lovely triple loop- the loop is definitely her best jump.

I wonder if she has ever tried the loop with the triple toe for her combo, then have the triple flip for her solo jump.
It seems the loop would be less "swingy" than the flip and easier to control for the combo.
Yes, it think the BV would be slightly less, but with higher GOE and fewer URs on the toe loop, I think the scoring potential is higher.
