I am not too concerned that our US ladies aren't medalling on the JGP - as long as at least one skater hits the top 5 or 6, I'm fine with that given the expectation levels. If the field wasn't dominated by 13 and 14 year old wunderkinds from Japan and Russia, it would be a different story.

I agree, at this point my concern is how they skate when they get to Nationals. It's always nice to see our skaters do well on the GP but, I'm more concerned about who makes the Olympic Team. Adam was great on the GP and then got injured and missed Nationals and Worlds. As long as the stay healthy and skate their best on the GP, the medals don't really matter to me.
Except that USFS has made it clear that GP medals and/or good performances WILL matter (along with Nationals) when the 2018 Olympic/Worldhavomgs teams are chosen.
Adam's injury wasn't a result of having competed in the GP. It was suffered during an off-ice warmup shortly before Nationals.

I read somewhere that one reason why Starr may be blooming a bit later is because she started out in the ISI track rather than the USFS one and started becoming more "serious" about competition relatively recently. Apparently, Jason Brown also started in the ISI track and some say it shows in their showsmanship and want to do programs they like. I'm not saying ISI skaters are less competitive or aren't capable of the skills necessary to be competitive in the USFS track, but I do think the philosophy is a bit different.
Not locked in, but in a stronger position than those who didn't medal. They still would have to be in the Top 5 at Nationals to be in the discussion.

This is the dilemma for me as well. Especially for a skater like Courtney Hicks. Unless she's a get an event, I feel like she'll be ignored by the judges when Nationals rolls around. She and Angela Wang are like wildcards. I've seen them both be spectacular and yet, they haven't been able to put it together at Nationals. They are capable of brilliance and of they bring it at nationals, I hope they're given a fair shot at making the team.

Looks like the typical "stop gossiping about Gracie Gold" vague public admonishment.
She retweeted that from Grant. And also posted something about wanting to travel. Maybe she's hinting at wanting some international assignments
or getting something that she can't yet reveal.
I didn't take it as more than that.

I've been impressed with Courtney's triple triple so far in the competitions that she's put out in the summer, and her programs seem like they suit her (I wasn't sure how I would feel about Amazing Grace, but I think it actually works for her). I still think she was underscored in her 2015 nationals sp, which was probably the last time she really did well at nationals. But stranger things have happened at nationals in an Olympic year. And the international judges seem to like her ok (still a little

Emmy Ma is in third place after the SP at JGP Latvia with 59.92. She really did a lovely job and I hope she can keep capitalizing on her potential.
Ashley Lin is in 8th place with 54.57; it was a nice program from her too. Good job, Emmy and Ashley!
