2017-18 State of U.S. Ladies Skating

Does Polina have a competition before the GP ?
Also, keep an eye out for kaitlyn n. who's competing again this week; not expecting a medal because she was scored so low at her last event, but crossed fingers that she does well!

According to the 2017-18 Grand Prix Assignments thread in GS The Edge, Polina is scheduled to skate in Grenoble France in November... Can't wait to see her!! Wish her the best!!

She's going to Finlandia in early Oct with Angela. That will be her first international competition in nearly two years.

It looks like Courtney Hicks held her own at the Autumn Classic finishing 4th in a large field of talented ladies. Good for her.

Christy Ness? I figured she had retired from coaching in the late 90's or early 2000's since i haven't seen or heard anything about her or her skaters since Kristi won in Albertville.

Christy Ness Enters the Picture

If Christy Ness has not, in fact, entered the picture, then at least she has added a comment to one.

Here is the latest posting to Polina’s Instagram account:

There is a comment from one “christy.ness,” probably the first time she’s done so.

Does this mean, then, that the impetuous Mr. Lease has had it right all along?

Sometimes I think that I must be the last person in the world to know anything about anything, especially when a client brings an important problem to my attention. Since I still use a fountain pen for my personal correspondence, however, this shouldn’t come as a surprise.

I don't take anything TSL says as truth like many others seem to. I refuse to.

If an OFFICIAL announcement(s) down the road proves him right, then so be it - but until then, in my view - it's just gossip :confused2:

^^^ I am more confused than ever. So, is the guy in the picture named Chris Ness? I guess I'll just wait until I see who sits with her at her first event.

This whole Polina coaching situation seems to me like a bit of a last minute grasp at something that's missing. I could be very wrong, but I just don't see her as a serious contender for the Olympic team at this point.

No, the guy isn't named Chris. Christy Ness has an Instagram and commented on the post. The reason that her comment is highlighted (at least on mobile) is because Polina follows her and Christy follows her back.

The last notable I recall her coaching was Susan Humphries. From what I remember Ness's husband was a physical therapist or something and through his techniques Susan suffered a near career ending back injury. The fall out was pretty ugly IIRC.

Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhh:drama: This is why I don't have Instagram, I don't get who it works. So, is Rudy gone too? That's all I really care about. If he's gone, I can't imagine Polina will make the team. Rudy knows her skating better than anyone, Including Christy Ness..

I don't see how Rudy can be gone when Polina's using his choreography. She's still getting her jumps back, I can't imagine that she'd throw in new choreography on top of that when she's already begun competing this season with Rudy's programs--besides Glacier Falls, she did them at St. Moritz on Sept. 10. She's falling, but she's now attempting the actual jumps instead of marking them.

I agree. There is simply no way for Ashley to get on the podium without 2 3/3's. After seeing Med this week, I don't think anyone is going to catch her unless she gets injured. Ashley's best chance at getting a medal, IMO, is to focus on her technique. She can sell sand in the dessert and that quality alone should get her into the final flight but, she won't beat Med, or Kaetlyn with her current jump arsenal.

I don't think any of the above have a chance against Zagitova. I hate to say it because I am 100% an Ashley Wagner fan to the exclusion of all others, but Zagitova's content and performance abilities crush Medvedeva. And Wagner has no chance unless her 3-3s are FULLY rotated, jumps all level 4 and she gets a real lutz - a tall order I hope she can serve.

i don't think Zagitova in her first senior season will get close to Evgenia in PCS , but i would be very, very glad if Alina will beat them all  that would be a hollywood-like kind of story, when girl who was pretty much unknown like 2 years ago, suddenly becomes a threat for everyone :agree:

sorry not sorry for the offtopic :)

I think it could happen. Really, the challenge for Alina is that Evgenia has the full support of the Russian Fed, but you could have a situation like in Nagano in which the judges go with technical merit when deciding between great programs from skaters representing the same country. I'm hoping for this, as I also prefer Alina over Evgenia. As far as the American women are concerned, it will be hard to compete if those two Russians are clean. However, the pressure at the Olympics is unlike anywhere else, so just because the Russians have a great season doesn't mean they'll be perfect at the Games.

That's exactly what I said about Med when she first came on the scene and I was Oh, so wrong. I still don't a have bronze medal pick. However, I do have Evgenia and Kaetlyn as my top 2. I'd love to see a US lady on the podium but, I have a feeling there will be another Russian on the podium. Of course, I still haven't seen Gabi......It could be a second Canadian just like Worlds.

I sure don't prefer Zagitova to Medvedeva. Zagitova skates with a piked waist pretty much throughout her programs, particularly when she jumps. It appears as if she is constantly looking down at the ice. Yes, she consistently skates clean, and she outdoes Medvedeva when it comes to backloading: (all of Zag's jumps are in the bonus, while two of Medved's jumps are at the beginning of the program). But that bent-over posture is a turnoff for me.
