2017-18 State of U.S. Ladies Skating

I fear they will def hold marks back with two repeat programs. I was ok with the Sp but I think Olympic program should be new. I think a lot of people skating to lalaland changed her mind. I'd rather see black swan or Samson and Delilah than moulin again. It is a mistake Ashley!!!!! Someone pls tell her.

Samson and Delilah!!!! Add a couple of 3/3's to this program and you have a winner. :https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xjkdeueVJSs

Agree, this program was a stunner..

While I can understand her returning to MR, I would love have seen Ashley stretch out artistically this season (perhaps for the last time???). I am sure she could have make LLL work out and I am positive she would have score very well last year if she had managed to put it together technically.

I hope she will proves us all wrong and take us all to new heights with her MR piece and land on the Olympic podium..

... The 2013 edition of the USOC media summit also had figure skating demos on Monday from Max Aaron, Gracie Gold, and the Shibs.
I imagine that one man and one lady once again will give demos in 2017. Prob. the Shibs again too, if I had to guess.

[Note: The Shibs gave a demo in 2013, even though D/W also took part in the media summit. Maybe other dancers (i.e., not the Shibs) will give a demo this time around. My comment above is nothing more than a wild guess.]

Update on next week's USOC media summit:

Mirai :luv17: will give one of the figure skating demos on Monday.

(Quoting myself in order to fall on my sword for my incorrect :hopelessness: guess as to who will demo ice dancing this time.

This year's demos:
Four U.S. Olympic figure skaters will perform pieces of their competitive short programs:
Jason Brown, singles | "The Room Where it Happens" by Lin Manuel Miranda from Hamilton
Mirai Nagasu, singles | "Nocturne in C Sharp Minor" by Chopin
Madison Chock & Evan Bates, ice dancing | “Aguanile,” “Che Lio,” and “Vivir mi vida” by Marc Anthony
)

BTW, Mirai's FS from the U.S. Classic is viewable on IceNetwork without a subscription.

Ashley is one of those skaters who will always make me wonder. Moving to John Nicks after failing to make the Olympic team in 2010 helped her find her artistry and refinement, but it wasn't until being semi-forced to move to Raf after Nicks' retirement that she began to really work to get those jumps she needed to be competitive. But getting those jumps at a later age also hurt her spins and flexibility and skating skills, either due to age or to focusing on training jumps.

Whereas if she had been with Raf or Frank Carroll or Brian Orser or another decent coach since she was a young teenager, it would've all turned out differently.

Ugh. I'm so over Moulin Rouge. I love Ashley- she's probably my favorite American skater since Michelle and Sasha retired. She's feisty, unabashedly driven, she presents much better than many of the skaters in the ladies' field, and she takes the audience on her journey of emotions when she skates in a way I find very enjoyable. But girlfriend needs a new program ASAP. 3x is one time too many.

Ashley and her team know what's most likely to bring out the best in her skating, and they must have had their reasons for wanting to go back to Moulin Rouge. I just think that doing this shows a serious lack of imagination in creating a program, and more importantly, a lack of range in performing one. She's now literally portrayed the same character for 3 of the 4 years in the quadrennium. I hope the judges see it differently and don't ding her for three-peating a program when she could've chosen any of the myriad other pieces that contain a narrative and allow her to emote in the strong and sincere way she wants to. Plus, she would have been wonderful with the right cuts of La La Land. And she's repeating Hip Hip Chin Chin, which only exacerbates her program originality problem. Sigh.

Rant over. Best of luck to Diva Wagner this season.

As a very big Ashley-fan I do have to say I'm really sad we won't see any new programs from her this season. I was curious about LLL. I loved HipHip - the way she performed it in Boston was fantastic (still think she should've won the SP that night) but though Moulin Rouge definitely suited her, two repeat programs feels... meh. But of course I still hope her performances will rock the world at the olympics.

Ashley has been very open about issues she has had due to concussions. One of the things she has talked about is having problems remembering choreography. She is also trying to improve her jumps and spins this season. The choice to repeat programs may have been very practical: if she doesn't have to focus on learning and remembering new choreography, it will be easier for her to focus on the technical elements that she wants to improve.

I agree. There is simply no way for Ashley to get on the podium without 2 3/3's. After seeing Med this week, I don't think anyone is going to catch her unless she gets injured. Ashley's best chance at getting a medal, IMO, is to focus on her technique. She can sell sand in the dessert and that quality alone should get her into the final flight but, she won't beat Med, or Kaetlyn with her current jump arsenal.

Could someone please tell me how to mark the space on a video where the moment happens that you're sharing with the forum? So that it starts there, rather than people having to watch the whole video, or being told what minute and second it happens?

You know what I mean? I read how to do it a couple years ago, then I forgot how and haven't thus far been able to figure it out.

when you click on the share button it gives you the link and underneath that it has a little box you can click that says "start at:" and the little box next to it has something like 05s, all you have to do is play the video and pause it at the part you want the video to start. Click share, check the start box, then copy and paste the link.

And even that may not be enough, if her abilities are declining and everyone else's is increasing. She may have to face the reality that perhaps a medal may be out of reach entirely. The mind can only do so much. That being said, the most she can, and should, do is totally go for it, don't skate safe and let the chips fall. If it's not enough, then so be it - at least there'll be no "what ifs" in her mind (non-judging related, anyway). Heck, it's not even a given she'll BE at the Olympics in the first place - her domestic competition will be stiff, even without Gold.

She is in a relationships with Romain Ponsart of France and has been openly for some time. He actually followed Vincent Restencourt to 7K and skated there for awhile and that is where their relationship started. Vincent left for Tammy Gambill. Romain and Mariah stayed behind for awhile at 7K and then moved to Raf together.

What a cute couple. His Instagram is pretty entertaining.

I said this in my post on page 99 of this thread here: http://www.goldenskate.com/forum/sh...dies-Skating&p=1781963&viewfull=1#post1781963

Have there been any recent reports on Gracie's progress? I've been binge watching her LP's going back to 2013 and she really was a great jumper just 2 a season ago.

She's no longer on the list of athletes participating at the Team USA Media Summit beginning tomorrow so I would assume she's not expected to contend for a spot on the Olympic team.

IMO, it is more likely that Gracie voluntary withdrew from the media summit. (As opposed to anyone else's expectations or lack thereof being the reason for her absence.)

Her name disappeared from the list of athletes right after she told Christine Brennan about taking time off.

I think it would be understandable if Gracie feels that taking questions from media at the summit would not be a good idea as she regroups.

YMMV.
