Someone should have advised Ashely to stop skating long before 5 concussions. Does she wear protective head gear during practice now?
2009 is not 2017. Ashley said that when she was a teen-ager skating at top levels, coaches expected you to go right back onto the ice even if you hit your head on the ice. It's just the difference in what has been learned in the last few years about the lasting effects of concussions.
I have no idea if she wears protective head gear. But I do know that figure skaters on this forum have said that every piece of gear you wear in practice can really throw a performance off when you don't wear it. Someone said that even wearing gloves in practice, then NOT wearing gloves in competitions, has that effect. You'll notice some of the Russian girls wear gloves in every performance. I noticed just today that Karen wore gloves in her FS in a color that blends with her skin color. She nearly always wears contrasting gloves in her SP.
