The only viable option for Mika in Russia is TSKA and I am sure he would be pushed very hard there. Besides I sense he does not like Moscow that
much. There is a lot to be said about a skater feeling comfortable & happy in his own surroundings. Relocating to train elsewhere sometimes in the only option for many skaters to succeed but it comes at a price - homesickness etc... But in Mika's case he's got already citing BESP guys 'arguably the best jump technique in the world', his presentation can only improve with time and health wise what could be better than having a caring & kind coach like Valentina who would not compromise his health for faster results.
Choreo is another matter but I have a feeling that they will try different choreographers in future not necessarily Lambiel again.

This is pretty much how I see it. I think he needs a nurturing coach, and that's what Valentina is. And they worked with Lambiel this year, also, Olga went there too, so maybe this means they are opening up to new things. His programs weren't bad before, I just think they were to much in the same vein, and Misha is the kind of skater that can really shine in different styles, and it's a way to challenge himself.

Alas, didn't get a chance to keep my promise but a couple of points:

Valentina believes that jumps [quads ] are becoming more stable, they are good in practice but in competition Mika is just too eager to be perfect and gets very upset after a fall. Sometimes he rushes too much into a jump [in competition] though in other regards he likes to do things slowly.

My take on it that Mika has to 'forgive' himself for mistakes and look at other skaters - nobody including Hanyu escaped the stage when jumps were unstable before stabilising to some rate of success.
On the whole I get a good feeling from this interview, they'll get there in the end health permitting...

Yeah, the jumps will come eventually. In practive at COR he didn't fall al the time, there was a step out, some scratchy 4lz, but still, much better landed than a fall. He can do them, and he can rotate them, which is a problem for a lot of skaters.

He landed an absolutely beautiful easy -looking 4lz in a warm-up before the SP. BESP guys called it sensational & the best amongst the boys. But it was Nathan who landed it in a program and that what matters. However it was great to see it again (after Nepela)

In this interview with Aliev, Dima says that during their once-weekly joint practices with Misha they've had quad contests for push-ups He didn't say who won though. Dima finds those practices a nice challenge, Valentina has also been complimentary about them, Misha himself hasn't commented on them yet. But they've probably not had them recently considering that Aliev has been getting treatment and training in Moscow. I am still hoping Dima an Misha will be the two skaters to go to the Olympics, because the other contenders are, frankly, not that interesting, but Dima needs to recover properly first. Plus CSKA would like to have a skater at the Olympics if at all possible, so both Misha and Dima will have to be noticeably stronger than the competition. Although TAT seems to have developed a crush on Dima after seeing him train at CSKA, but this being TAT I am not sure how long it will last and if it bodes well for him.

So here we are, second GP for Mika already - SP tomorrow. Mika skating second last sandwiched between Jin & Javi. We know he does not like skating that late but this is the price to be paid for a high ranking
Practice videos available are not too friendly with my comp but an easy looking 4sal seems to a feature - fingers crossed!
Will BESP like REALLY show everything live?! I'll believe when I see it...

I love his unique style and respect that he's challenging himself in the Olympic season with two new and contrasting programs while increasing his technical content. (Though I'm resigned to the inevitable snide remarks from certain GS posters who seem oddly obsessed with posting negative comments about him at every turn, regardless of how he skates.hwell

I can't see him going clean in the long, and all comps, but that's two clean lutzes this year. It's slow, but he's so in the right way.

Mikhail is such a perfectionist. Everything he does on the ice leaves no room for an error. His stoic face after that perfect 4Lz was .......

Just to clarify, you mean in the GP season so far, yeah? Because if you're counting Challengers, there's one higher.
