2017-18 State of U.S. Ladies Skating

I certainly agree with you!
About the private schools: I happen to know an ice dancer on her national team and she attends private school for that very reason. They work with people. (This particular school is also known for being flexible and willing to work with skaters in particular)

Yes, same here! I wen to private school, and they always helped you maintain good grades and balance athletics, so Polina should be in good shape IF she can get her jumps back

Anyone know anything about her other coach Ponomarenko (Sergei)? Some private colleges do cooperate; others don't.

BREAKING NEW! Karen Chen running through last year's LP at Skate America practices

I think he posted that she was going back to her SP from last year as well?

Second breaking: Karen Chen moving back to both of last season’s programs. Didn’t feel like she had enough time to get into her last FS, more comfortable with last season’s program; SP is “very special” to her #SkateAmerica

Wow, that will be the 4th LP for her this season! But I'm glad that she switched, I was not a fan of the music from #3.

I REALLY hope this is true . Her OGP SP was one of my favorite SP's from all the ladies. I remember clapping with joy after her SP performance at Worlds.....

As much as I am happy for the choice (OGP was really a lovely program!), I'm a bit concerned for how her team handled the whole "program switching" especially since it's the current US champion we are talking about. Also, I think that working with a more established choreographer (or "more on fire" such as Bourne right now) could have been a good choice reputation-wise (I'm aware that a "famous" choreographer doesn't automatically means good choreo - see Jin's LP this year - but they can give you further spotlight in the media when they are interviewed and so on).

ED: Anyway, I'm still puzzled that OGP was Karen's job, it's really impressive! Wishing her good luck for SA!

Karen Chen needs just stick with her program, she keep changing programs just tells u she is going to be doomed. I don't think she is making the Olympics. 5 program changes for the year, Tosca, Carmen, Slow Dancing, and now back to Old program for short and long. She will not have time to get comfortable with the programs and she will be left out of her team. Karen please listen to someone instead of making the decision yourself. Just seems like she needs to be told what to do. She needs to fix her jumps such as her flip and underrotation instead of wasting time on new programs

I worry about how it's going to effect her mentally. That's lot of programs to have in your head. You get used to programs and a sudden change plays with your bodies muscle memory. I just hope she's ready for tomorrow.

Oh, Karen! I loved both programs, but it looks a bit like she is sort of grasping at straws now with all these changes. I should reserve judgement until after we see her this weekend, but it makes me uneasy for her.

Hopefully Courtney is next recycling her LP from last year. It's much better than her LP this season.

No.

It's just the 3rd one really, she never competed her first LP and barely had it before going to Carmen.

I'm happy Karen is going back to On Golden Pond, but not happy she is going back to last year's LP. That program was too generic for her talent.

Gee, I hope Karen doesn't lose her concentration and midway start skating a program different than the one she started with.

THeres a lot of nerves being at the top. It makes you second guess yourself a lot. I wish Tami had more Olympic experience. It would’ve made this season far less stressful for Karen. I’ll reserve judgement for now. But I know it will be better than a brand new program.

That won’t happen. Her previous programs are committed to muscle memory. Her body knows when it should move and how it should move at every moment. She just needs skate dumb and let her body so the rest.

Agreed that the program switching is very worrying for Karen. She should've kept her SP and transformed her OGP to a viable LP before the previous skate Canada. I think her confidence is shot because the expectations for her were high this season after coming off the national champion + 4th at worlds momentum.

Angela is currently 3rd at CS Estonia with a 62.xx score. Haven't seen the video but protocols are 3F-2T and 3Lo, level 4 spins, level 3 step, all with positive GOE
