2017-18 State of U.S. Ladies Skating

No.

It's just the 3rd one really, she never competed her first LP and barely had it before going to Carmen.

I'm happy Karen is going back to On Golden Pond, but not happy she is going back to last year's LP. That program was too generic for her talent.

I agree with you. OGP was a masterpiece. Her LP is just not that remarkable.

THeres a lot of nerves being at the top. It makes you second guess yourself a lot. I wish Tami had more Olympic experience. It would’ve made this season far less stressful for Karen. I’ll reserve judgement for now. But I know it will be better than a brand new program.

Please don't assume this is all Tammy's fault. I met her over the summer and she was entirely capable and confident. My guess is that when Karen decided she wanted to change then that was it. You can't force a skater to do something they don't want to do.

That won’t happen. Her previous programs are committed to muscle memory. Her body knows when it should move and how it should move at every moment. She just needs skate dumb and let her body so the rest.

I hope you're correct. It's the muscle memory that makes me wonder if Karen will have small lapses of concentration during her programs. If she trained hard on her new programs, it can be difficult to block that from your mind when the pressure is on. Hopefully things will go well as I loved her programs from last season.

To reiterate what I said on another forum: although Chen's seemingly constant flipping of programs early on does not boost my confidence in her, if going back ultimately helps with her consistency, then so be it.

I agree. In fact, I think most skating fans thought she should have planned on keeping her SP from day 1. It's her LP that I was worried about. It's a fine program but frankly, I was looking forward to seeing something new. We'll see how it scores this weekend. At this point, she really doesn't have time to do much else, unless she goes "back" to her new LP...:drama:

At this point she just needs to commit to a program. Last year's it is, I hope?

Anyway I'm hoping Chen can seriously challenge/defeat Wagner here and keep the latter on her heels, keep things interesting.

Karen Chen sure knows how to be dramatic. Has there been anyone who changed that many programs in a season? I bet we will have another program change by Nationals.

Tosca

I for one would have loved to see it

I wouldn’t not have like it. I have Michelle’s program memorized beat for beat. I would not be able to watch that program without making direct comparisons. That’s the risk you make in taking music from legends. Dropping it was a good call. I’m very surprised it was even suggested in the first place. :noshake:

We watched Karen Chen run through the "old" SP some days ago in practice, she can do that one in her sleep, it's so perfect for her. Good call.

Yay!
It's probably also easier to get it back since she MADE it not just learned it.

Anyone else having issues catching the ladies on the Olympic Network? I only see the men and pairs short in my program guide..

So, sectionals is over? Unless someone withdraws, we have the complete list of skaters who’ll be at nationals?

Have to feel bad Livvy and Paige, both of whom made their senior nationals debut last year, but didn’t make the cut this year.☹️

I wish Mirai would go back to her Demons program. That was such a stunning moment at Worlds, and with Evgenia doing the same Chopin piece, it doesn't reflect well on Mirai :( But Demons was quite arguably her best SP ever.
