Oh, she was referencing Ashley, I don't disagree with you there. I see Brennan's article more as a way of communicating what things could possibly influence the committee's decision, not that she was "making a case" for Ashley's inclusion. And the tone of Brennan's narrative is distinctly different from the (to me) rather inflammatory teaser line for the online audience. That annoys me.
I appreciated the perspective that it's the selection committee's responsibility to maximize the possibility for winning medals. That's identical to what many posters around here have said, although I don't recall who specifically. And if they do have to use BOW criteria, Ashley has as good a claim as anyone, and better than most. I personally hope very much that Ashley medals this week and that there is little or no doubt, for any Olympic team member, that they deserve to go. I think it's important to Ashley that she would earn (hypothetically, at this point) a spot on the team. Not to have any confusion about it.

I agree with you wholeheartedly on that one. Another four years of debating the issue of whether she(or anyone else) earned it or not... no thank you.

My concern with Starr is a growth spurt. Those long limbs are what you see right before an adolescent growth-spurt/weight gain. I think she's a late bloomer.

I agree with the fact that barring a complete meltdown, Ashley will be sent to the Olympics. People always forget that it's not only about the sport - NBC/sponsors etc. want to have good viewing rates, and they are easier to get with the one female US skater people might have vaguely heard of. Plus, Ashley can touch the casual viewer with her skating (those that don't know what an underrotation is ). That all sounds cynical, and it probably is, but......that's the way it works.

I do hope so, what amazes me seeing her practice runs etc. is her fitness level, this readiness jumping-wise, how she attacks her content. Yes, we often saw her doing great practices and getting tight/nervous in competition, but where to break out of this tendency better than at Nationals in Olympic season? I believe that all the experience she has and every rocky moment she had should give her an additional boost of confidence, along with 3A and qualities she has. I do hope she'll create a special moment for herself and give it to the people who are really there for her
Because Ashley will have higher PCS than Mirai. I'm a fan of Mirai though.
Because the girls I've mentioned did poorly in their GP events. They could have gotten higher marks if they did well, higher than that of Bradie. So we will see at Nationals.

Well it looks like Ting is forever destined to be an inconsistent fave - after a disastrous SP, she placed second in the LP (barely one point behind Alysa) and third overall. Let's send her to JW to get some more experience under her belt. Even if she bombs there, I think it'll be good for her.
Pooja came second overall and I'm thrilled!!! I hope this means she will get JGP assignments next year. I'll get excited about anyone coming from Alex Ouriashev.
Alysa dominated. Let's hope she stays healthy and continues on an upward trajectory.
I haven't watched any performances yet (idk if they're online yet or not) but if someone did, can you let us know if the panel was being overly lenient on URs or anything? It looks like no one was really getting called for anything, at least among the top girls.

Well, to be honest though, neither Karen Chen, nor Mariah Bell, nor Mirai Nagasu have EVER broken the 200 points mark internationally. It wasn't just a couple subpar GP events. That said, anything can happen.

I'm honestly excited about the future of US ladies right now, after seeing Alysa Liu's wonderful skates, Ting Cui's comeback, and the success of all the girls coming from novice to junior.
I'm a bit disappointed that Hanna's chances of the JW team are looking slim, since even though Alysa can't go, Pooja and Ting are ahead of her.
Who do you think will be chosen from the junior ladies? Considering Pooja's relative lack of international experience, Ting's inconsistency, Alysa's age-ineligibility, and Hanna's placement here...

I assume that Pooja doesn't have the minimums - I'm not aware of any international competitions this year where she would've gotten them.
If it was up to me, I'd send Ting. As I said above, I think the experience would be good for her. She's sooo talented, and maybe more competition will help what I assume is nerves that are making her inconsistent?
I'd send Ting along with whoever places the highest out of Starr/Emmy/Vivian/Tessa/Kaitlyn Nguyen/whoever I am forgetting. But I suspect USFS will send the top two out of that group, and Ting will be lucky if she gets to be an alternate. Still, that LP should count for something. She almost won the LP.
I REALLY want to watch the performances but IceNetwork is sooooo unworkable. I don't want to search through a two hour video of the entire event! Split the videos into individual skaters so I can find them easily!!

I didn't know that. Normally I would say the singer does not compare to Whitney, but for a teen girl, she's is definitely good, and few compare to Whitney, so....

I would be very disappointed if Ting was not named to the Junior World team. Especially if the two women named do not score higher than she did in the long. Kaitlyn is having severe under rotation issues due to her growth spurt. Vivian hasn’t regained her previous form since being injured. Tessa also has bad under rotation issues and continually bombs her programs because she backloads and cant handle it. Starr will probably do well but I can’t see her getting the score Ting got. The same goes for Emmy. I would probably like to see Ting and either Starr or Emmy on the team(whoever does better at nationals).
Starr got higher than Ting's score at sectionals slightly (120.04), plus a very respectable 66+ in the short. I definitely thing it will be Starr at Jr. Worlds (possibly 4CC as well), plus one of Ting, Emmy, or Kaitlyn.
