but let's be real - she missed all accents today... in a program where she needs to hit them
Yep. Her free program at GP France was better. Also, on 2A+3T combo she didn't land her double axel correctly, and had to jump 3T without any speed, so it looked URed. But anyways, considering this, if she got almost 158 points for the free program without connection to the music on her jumps and the split jump, could you imagine her scores at the Olympics, if she will do everything well, and right in the music? [emoji848]

Held my breath on the axel. This competition was so important, I can't even imagine what was going through her mind from the solo lutz through the end. Hopefully she and Zhenya split the team event where Alina skates the free; that'd probably be just enough exposure to Olympic ice for her to throw it down.

Not all, but I noticed that too. She went too fast this time.
Just as puremagic wrote axel combo landing was scary (the last one was better than usual though!) and she stumbled a bit and corrected her feet at one of balletic poses. Totally negligible stuff, but, if perfected, 160 is coming. :yes:
She could well become the first lady to break the 250 barrier.
If she learns two quads, she is more than capable of breaking the 300 barrier.

Oh Alina!
You were absolutely breathtaking today!
That lutz-loop combo was quite possibly the best I've ever seen, and she's had good ones. She absolutely deserved her title today; she played a better Don Quixote than Javier!
I've loved her ever since her first JGP in St. Gervais last year, and seeing her struggle with nerves, first visibly so at JGP Slovenia and EYOF, and then this year during her SPs has been heartbreaking. To see her complete two clean skates in her new home felt so amazing for me, and I can't imagine how it was for her! She's really had the skate of her life today, and I hope she is able to repeat those in Korea! She truly is made for an Olympic medal. Imagine that story: three years ago, she had two broken bones and didn't even have all of her triple jumps, and then suddenly she's an overnight sensation, unbeaten in her first senior season even over her training mate.
So many people critique her PCS or her choreography, but the worst of people comes out when they're afraid for their favorites or intimidated by new stars. This just means that Alina is even better than we already knew
Decades into the future, when we think of skaters who pushed the sport technically, the name "Alina Zagitova" is going to be the first one out of our mouths. She really is a legend in the making, a star that was "born to make history" and Sabina is lucky to have such a wonderful skater as a sister and role model.
Alina, I'll be rooting for you in Korea! Good luck and congratulations!!

I didn't think they were allowed to compete in the team event as neutral athletes
They are not neutral athletes. They are Olympic Athletes From Russia (OAR). They can form a team.

Congratulations to Alina on her gold. I wrote in this thread in March of 2017 how much I liked her Don Quijote program, and I still like it! I am just amazed in the FS at that 3Lz-3Lo combination. The spring she gets on that 3Lo!! 
It hurt my hip just watching, but it sure didn't seem to bother her! I am glad that she is bringing back a little bit of "intrigue" to the ladies field. The only thing I wish she would change would be to take out some of the transitions so she can get a more finished look to some of the moves and have a moment to breathe and feel the music a bit more. I know that's not the approach her team wants, but one can dream!
ETA -- I had forgotten the broken bones of several years ago that Spirals mentions above. That makes her all the more remarkable!

she almost quit skating several years ago, and now she beats the reigning world champion in both programs, without any questions! its still hard to believe...

Congratulations to Alina! She makes these 2 programs look so easy. And they are in fact so difficult! I remember Alina was wondering/worrying at the beginning of this season - "will the judges like me? ". Well, they don't like her, they LOVE her now!
Alina was fabulous at this championship. I am very happy for her title.
