2018 Olympic Season: Men's Figure Skating

I have feeling this event will be let down. Hanyu sohuld be smart and skate his 2015 layouts. No one else will be able to touch those scores anyway with 5 quads

Can I bring in some positivity and say props for Besseghier to skate an Olympic program to this music and choreography? :laugh2: really cool music, skated clean I could see myself loving that program, haha

There is no guarantee that Hanyu would even get the same scores again even with his 2015 layouts. He had momentum riding into GPF and like it or not, momentum with consistency does factor into the scoring creep during the competitive season. His health condition is still a big question mark, though he does have a knack for surprising when people count him out. Uno has set himself up very well going into the individual event, even going so far as to break Hanyu's previous Olympic world record. His PCS is now comparable with the likes of Hanyu and Fernandez.

Whoever skates the cleanest program of reasonable technical difficulty will win.

That had to be, relative to ability of the skaters involved, the worst quality Men's SP competition in the history of figure skating.

Just from recent memory, Skate Canada 2015 might give it a run for its money. Chan fell once and had an invalid 2Lz, Hanyu had two invalid jumping passes and scored a whopping 28.43 in technical elements and was beaten by Rippon (with a fall and a downgrade), Nyugen (with a fall, an edge call and a stsq2), and Brezina (with a fall, a level 1 spin, and a level 2 spin), and Daisuke Murakami won the segment with 80.88. Other highlights of that SP were Keegan Messing with a 1A and June Hyuong Lee with 2 invalid elements AND 2 deductions. LOL that was a nightmare.

Has anybody seen Yusuru Hanyu skating recently? I am really confused how ready is he for this competition. I know he had an injury, is he Ok right now? I just wonder.

There is a thread on The Edge about Hanyu's withdrawal from team event and some followup comments from Brian Orser.

As to your question if anyone has "seen" him skate recently. He trains at Toronto Cricket Club, which is private and filming of other skaters is not allowed. No one has seen Hanyu skate except for the TCC coaches and skaters.

Hi all!

Here you are another video from the Figure Skating Comparison Team: this time the focus is on the steps/movements before the solo jumps in top 7 men's SP, including later comps and observations on Oly TE --> https://youtu.be/P0472ZAo5Bchttp://

P.S. To those who said that this kind of analysis is done just to put up or down some skaters: if you look at the videos on this channel, it seems to me that the top skaters are treated in equal way (see the different results depending on the focus of the analysis, by the way done also by different persons).

Stuff from the Olympics disappears off YouTube right away. If you do not label it as Olympics and do not include sound, it might stay up.

NHK just showed footage of Hanyu's practice today. It was a light workout where he attempted no quads, but he did land a very nice triple axel.

Lol Yuzu skated for about 15 minutes, jumped a couple singles and then closed out with a 3a and a bow. Peak trolling. Love it.

He showed up with his new tissue box cover.

The real headliner of the Olympic games TBH. I hope the US media doesn't have a stroke over it.....cause if they think he's killing the sport with his pooh tissue box, can't imagine what they'd think seeing his shortcake tissue box. Maybe the audience will be so shocked/horrified they'll leave mid event to protest

Double whammy - underneath that shortcake cover is actually a disney pooh tissue box. :drama: This sport is DOOMED.

Although she hasn't been commentating on the figure skating so far, Catherine Whittaker is in Pyeongchang acting as a roving reporter for Eurosport.

She has also been doing video diaries on her Twitter profile, and here is the one she did yesterday from the practice rink, talking about Yuzuru Hanyu while he and Michal Březina were on the ice in the background:

Enjoy!

EDIT: I forgot to add that an hour earlier she posted a photo from the practice rink.

Why would they have a stroke over a tissue box cover?

Thank you for the advise: as far as I know the team knew it and because if that used video cuts from the latest comps before Olympics, including only written note about the performance at the Oly TE. Moreover Olympics are not mentioned in the title.
