Nathan Chen

Nathan has another SOI today right? Watching Nemesis live is to die for! Please Nathan include it in US SOI:bow::pray:

He should be doing 2 programs for US SOI so most likely one of them will be Nemesis. He performed it again on Sunday: 4T(so), 3F, 3Lz.

Ugh! If these are the last times to see Nemesis performed without baby quad pressure I wish these SOI performances were taped and televised! Are they usually not aired? And the no camera policy makes little sense if they don’t even plan on televising this!

😂 he looks good in the soi T though he probably likes casual style how come Evgenia wasn’t in the group pic?

Btw nathanchen_ice_prince has lots of Worlds pics of him with fans.

He looks good in everything of course.

Not sure why she's not there. I guess she performed?

aand he just posted on IG story that he's going back to the US now. He's working so hard.

NATHAN HAS ENROLLED AT YALE
He mentioned it on his Instagram profile ("Yale '22")
I'm so incredibly proud and happy!!! I mean, we knew he probably has chosen Yale because he liked that pic but the fact that he finally mentioned it in his profile makes me so happy!!! 😍😍

Okay, now when my head is cool I start to worry about how is he gonna manage skating and studying in such a University!

Wow seems like the decision has already been made before worlds. Did Yale make him an offer he couldn't refuse? Welcome to east coast Nathan!:love:

I don't see how this is going to work out. Unless he's going to just take it easy for a few years and only compete part time.

I guess it's something he'll have to figure out for himself. I'm sure he'll talk about it soon. He said he'd do a year and reevaluate school, and see if he can balance it, though he also just said he'd stay in Cali so who knows.

Honestly, not to be negative but I don't think he can afford to take it easy for a few years and keep up with everyone and still be on top. Even in the US there's a skater that is going to try to challenge him. I do really wonder how it'll work. As a fan I'm a bit worried, but I can't help but be happy for him as well.

Now I wonder what Raf thinks. :slink: He just said Nathan was listening well to him and trusting him, so maybe they got it all figured out.

Congrats on enrolling at Yale, Nathan. That's an awesome university!

I've searched and I don't think are *any* elite figure skaters or coaches in the New Haven area. Will he just train by himself? Aren't quads dangerous to train by yourself?

I was in the middle of writing a long post thanking everybody for news and links but then...

OMG he really is going to attend Yale!

On the one hand, my g*d, Nathan, who is gonna coach you? It's true the ice rink is *right there* on campus. At least it was... back in the days of dinosaurs...

He could hop the train to NYC and there are probably coaches in Connecticut, in Hackensack, New Jersey, etc.

I do worry for his skating career, but I want most of all for him to be happy, and whatever happens with skating and grades, there is an experience beyond all that, something to just being on a college campus with other bright, eager young people.

so, whatever happens with skating, Nathan's earned a chance to try something different for once. I'm so glad he won Worlds already--that's 2 out of 3 of his skating goals met.

*clutches head in agony*
OMG, no more Romain and Mariah cute clips????? What will I do for sustenance during the dark times? *weeping and rejoicing for Nathan at the same time*

omg... i will miss Mariah and Romain so much....
*cries*

where is Nikolai Morozov based? isn't he in Hackensack? Not my top choice for Nathan's coach, but he choreographed Nathan's Saint-Saens program and has trained elite skaters before. I believe there is a training center in Hackensack, regardless of whether Morozov still is based there. Samantha Cesario and Sarah Hughes were based around the NYC area. It's not a long train ride from NYC to New Haven. And Nathan's agent being in NYC means she must know the coaching options in the area. Back in the day there was a big skating center in Simsbury, Connecticut; I don't know if any of those coaches are still around.

I am sure Nathan will continue to work with Raf. Remember Raf is willing to co-coach. He said he was willing to share Nathan with his 'first coach' in that recent interview. Raf probably trusts Morozov not to try to poach his student. And my impression is Nathan and his family believe that Raf is the coach Nathan needs for the technical side of his skating.

I do worry, in fact I'm frantic with worry, because even when Raf is right there every day Raf could not hold him back, keep him from practicing *too much.* If Nathan gets the sense that his skills are slipping because he has to spend time studying for exams, I'm afraid he will sacrifice time doing proper warm-up and cool-down for injury prevention and go right into jumping... possibly unsupervised. But he is who he is, he is doing quads in galas despite having told Andrea Joyce he'd learned his lesson (interview at 2017 Nationals). I cannot change him, he is not going to become the skater I want him to be, who focuses on skating skills and improving his posture, he is not going to wear costumes that fit and don't obscure his lines, he is not going to hold back when it comes to training jumps that put his hips at severe risk-- he is Nathan, and I'll have to make peace with my inability to 'rescue' him from his youthful decisions, just as nobody could keep me from making mine back in the day.

I already asked any deity who might listen to guide him into decisions that will give him happiness in the near and distant future. I can only hope the deity has already intervened on his behalf.

I think he already accepted Yale before the WC, So he had enough disscuson with Raf and family. And he said at some interview, He would think about his studies if he difficult to find balance.
I little worried about skating, but most important thing is his happy. So whatever he choosed, i will support and trust his choice! Anyway, Congraturation Nathan:)
