Alina Zagitova

When does Sambo 70 bring in Alina's little sister Sabina to train? 1 year? 2? At some point if Sabina is promising enough I would think Alina would want Sabina in Sambo 70 maybe with Eteri and also have her parents in Moscow too. As olympic champion she may have the clout to ask for this.

Is Alina in her offseason yet?

Her father has such work you can not easily find in Moscow.

I remember seeing on YouTube a video interview with her first coach from Izhevsk saying that they can only train skaters up to a point there and if someone is really promising then they are "scouted" to go train in more specialized facilities. She started at Sambo in 2015, so 3 years ago, that would make her 12 then (her sister is younger than that now, 10 I believe). I don't know if a skater can initiate a transfer to Sambo 70 or if they have to agree to take you.

Since her dad is a hockey coach responsible for a team I don't think his job is that mobile (to move to Moscow I mean).

She still has one more Ice Show to do, Thin-Q Ice Fantasia (an LG Electronics sponsored show in Seoul) from April 20-22 (will be televised in Korea live on Aprim 21st 3pm Seoul time on the network KBS2).

Hoping we get to see the video from this show.

After this I think she is on a break and can fully enjoy her off season.

I love when some of them have caps, then it is well translated and I can learn some Russian, wish I could speak it too and this is a nice way to pick up some of the language.

This video was probably shared here already somewhere on the thread but I'd like to share it again, very early Alina, still in Izhevsk (12y), and I'd like to point out her beautiful arm movements. They are so pretty and perfect. It's also nice to see her early takes on some elements she still performs today.

Seeing this it's not hard to see why she was accepted at Sambo 70, you can definitely see she had the markings of someone special who could really excel at this.

She was good at 12. A speed demon!

if Sabina Zagitova is not with Sambo-70 in 2 years then she will probably never be there.

One more show? Thank you for that information and all your other information as well.

To accept or not to accept the skater in the group takes the decision only of Eteri and it does not depend on age.

Thank you for the information, wasn't sure how this worked, but I figured she worked with very young skaters (less than 10y) just by seeing videos of their rink, and hearing how others started with her from age 6.

I’m so excited to see the next two Japanese TV appearances from Alina.
What a great reap from the Japan SOI.
We have the special on Wed about her and then the game show with Kaetlyn and Javi also coming up.
Hope we get to see it posted up somewhere to enjoy.
I’m so curious about the game show.
And in a few days she’ll have the LG Ice Show in Korea, hope we get some great stuff from that too.
In the meantime I hope she is having some great downtime with the family back home.

I found this on twitter - looks like a great line-up of skaters
Hopefully there will be lots of pics and videos

Alina, Sasha and the Zhilinas. I really  this picture. And I'm happy they met! Alina looks so... motherly, protective here.

Interesting how close Sasha is to Alina in height! The other thing I immediately noticed is how Alina's legs look so thin in comparison to even Alena(smallest, 8yo).

....speaking of motherly and protective

Slightly Off-Topic - I wonder how long it takes for Sasha Trusova to put her hair up in a bun before skating :scratch2:

I’m super excited to see this line up, thanks for the info.

I hope they have group numbers like SOI, it always allows us to see a different side to the skaters.

And in Alina’s case that side is just perfection, and she has so much fun.

From that Russian documentary about Evgenia and Alina: Evgenia mentioned that any weight (added ou subtracted) has impact on your jumps.

I wonder how this works for something like clothes (heavier costumes) and extra long hair (hair can weight a lot). Does it make a huge difference?

Regarding Sasha Trusova - I think I read that her hair has been very long most of her life so she is probably used to it
In any event it certainly has not had a negative impact on her jumps

That’s true, you can tell that her hair took a long time to grow to this lenght.

After I said that it kinda got me thinking: I always thought Alina’s Don Quixote and Swan costumes are on the bulkier side (tutus are light but...) you tend to see skaters using lighter (at least from looking) costumes. Since she always jumped (and spun) real well in say her Sherazade costume, that was probably lighter, maybe weight and even clothes aerodynamics don’t play such big part in impacting performance.

At least on the level all Senior and Junior skaters are at.

Alina is very focused now, and really wants to achieve great things with her skating. She knows this can make a difference for her family and for her life.

Anyone that’s really great at sports can better their life, and their family’s life, you get a chance at endorsements, prize money and being payed to train for National teams.

I’m glad she is getting those chances and I hope many more come her way so she can achieve her dreams.

She was always thin, even as a little kid, and now she is thin but with a lot of muscles. You don’t get to be like that if you starve yourself, you loose muscle mass and don’t look like she does.

So I’m thinking she watches what she eats but she is not doing anything crazy, she wouldn’t have all that muscle mass if she did. And in relation to her size and slim build she is very muscular. My thinking is we shouldn’t take one clip, of one interaction in front of the camera. to be the true norm in her life. Or even quotes from one print interview, things that to get distorted and played for maximum buzz factor on print press.

Am a new (and huge) Alina fan, and just watched "Of Ice and Fame". I know it is an old video, but I enjoyed watching the behind the scenes and their training.

Am relying on subtitles. Wanna ask Russian speakers - on what Eteri said to Alina based on the subtitles "Do 8.5 if you cannot count." - does she mean it sarcastically, eg "Do 8.5 if you don't know how to count"? Or is it more like "Do 8.5 if you are unable to count (whilst spinning)"? No judgement, just curious.
