I think people really can't expect a six quad program from any of the russian men competing right now in seniors, it's just not feasible, and I might have to bite my tongue later, but Ithink it's completely unattainable, be it for Samarin, Aliev, or Misha. Perhaps Erokhov might have a different luck coming from Eteri, but I don't know, he's barely half a year younger than Nathan. The thing is, you can't just come out one season with three, four new quads and land them like nobody's business, and I feel like Misha is always having to defend himself in these questions because he knows he never will be able to do that.

Also, skating under Valentina lets him stay close to the family, and unless he moves to Rukavicin, or someone else in Spb other than Mishin who's always around the world, I don't see him going as far as Moscow to train, much less Canada. I don't know, I don't see it. He loves skating, but I think he relies a lot in this environment that makes him feel good, and I don't know if he'd be willing to move away - which is his prerrogative, and might cause him to be stuck back in the rankings, but that's his decision.

For an outsider, or a fan that wants results more than anything, it's easier to say, why not move away, why not try a different coach, and a bunch of different things. It's the same people keep saying about Russian ID, why don't the skaters go out of the country to train, but it's not just an easy decision to be done with. If a skater is already training in NA for example, moving camps might seem a bit less straining, though I don't see how it can be something easy. But just imagine having to move to the other side of the world where you don't have any buffers, where you don't speak the language, and you still won't be able to escape from the pressure of the Fed and general public when your results are bad. That can't be an easy decision to be made, and I'm not even going into the financial side of things, which is a whole another game.

Misha has great professionals around him that are also learning how to cope with his changes and the way his career goes. I'm sure many wish things were different, I do that all the time, but this is the way he wants to go, and I'd rather support him this way than fight everything he or Valentina does.
Thank uuuuuuuuu [emoji24]
I'm the one who is totally against whoever they are say something for him like changing couch, changing choreographer, changing this and that. IT'S HIS DAMN CHOICE. AND HIS OWN CHOICE ONLY. Come on, if you like him, have some faith in him. Also, open your eyes, he already said it out loud and clear: he's loyal, it's inhuman for him to betray them.

Yes, I don't see him as determined or eager as someone like Yuzuru. But the situation is totally different, he's not promising as he is; at this point, if he does change the environment, most likely would just end bouncing back and forth. I believe he can make the best desion for himself. No matter what it is, as a fan, you should not intervene that much.

Heh, Misha sniping back at TAT. Keeping it within proper limits, as always, a lot of people within the Russian figure skating community could learn from him.

He seems to have matured a lot. There is a short snippet from an interview from last summer at the beginning, the difference between that and this interview is immediately evident. There was a noticeable change even in the weeks between the OG and Worlds. He has acquired confidence that wasn't there before, although one could have easily expected the opposite effect. Of course, the Worlds medal must have helped in this regard, even if he does not see it as something to be greatly proud of because he knows he could have done better. But, as Trankov once said, the skate will be forgotten, the medal will remain.

Misha needs to get his brain working again pronto as this is his last Masters' year and he is busy with his studies.

When the guy is going to get a break - I thought he said after Worlds that he wouldn't be back on the ice till the end of April and here he is again - breaking in boots, studying etc... He needs a proper holiday - can we send him somewhere nice please :luv17:

I agree he looks and speaks so much more mature and I credit it to Oly not the World medal, he already looked differently after the SP in Milan. As horrible as the team event turned out for him it was a massive experience - as indeed -what doesn't break us make us stronger...
The relationship with TAT has all the ingredients to become epic, we have so much personality on each side - it is bound to be!
I was slightly worried when in one of post Worlds interviews Mika said something very PC about TAT - 'she came over after the SP and gave me some advice, and we, young skaters, always value her imput as she is such an expert'
It sounded so unlike Mika that I thought that 'they' finally got to him and if not for his own but for Valentina's sake he was trying to say all the right things ha ha

I was thinking about programs for the new season, and you know I wish him to do something comical and light because it comes so natural to him (in fact he could turn a comedian any day if decides to quit skating). Of course I wish a best & famous choreographer for him but most of all to stay true to himself and looking back I think his programs in 2015-16 seasons were great because there was nothing generic about it allowing his personality to shoot across the ice

I suspect he never meant literally staying off the ice till the end of April, just a light workload "so as not to forget how to skate" and not to lose his form completely. Considering that his studies do not end till July, I hope he is not going to spend literally every day pouring over his books/thesis, he can take some time off. He is smart, that helps. Hopefully he finally goes to that warm sea he has been dreaming of. At least he will get his degree and be finished with education.

Yes, it was the hardest experience of his life that brought maturity, but Worlds probably added confidence.

I think TAT's reaction to Misha's medal may have finally got to him. He is normally not one to court open conflict, but might have felt that he doesn't have much to lose any more with TAT and has to respond to her bashing on behalf of his coach as much as himself. Plus I get the impression that he finally got better at appreciating his own worth and not being afraid of admitting it publicly. He is a skater who actually needed to feel more like a star, so this is a good development.

Yes, Misha is somewhat of a natural entertainer and has a way with words - which unfortunately doesn't always come across well in print or in translation. I feel like he should practice giving interviews in written form, so that he learns to express his thoughts in words only when it is needed.

One light/comical program would be good, as long as it is well-made and not over the top. As far as I understand, they are considering something along the lines of Hallelujah/Metallica for one of his programs as well.

Just rewatched his SP at Worlds. Wow, I've enthralled with the program... choreography, music, execution.... beautiful.

I guess most of you have read or listened to the last interview to Misha at Sport FM. For those who doesn’t know about it or haven’t had time to listen or read it you've got it in VK Misha’s official group, enjoy it, really interesting.

Wonderful interview as always! The problem is for crazy fans like myself who follow Mika's career closely there is much new left to learn! Just a few interesting details emerged though like little Mika hitting the ice with his fist after trying the same jump three times (in the actual skate) and falling on all of them...

Only a hint about new programs - one more classical (I guess classical in style not necessary classical music?) and another - a new image. Not much to go on - sigh...
But it implies that the ideas for the programs are ready meaning these are done again by Olga? I was hoping that maybe for one of the programs they would go to an outside choreographer for the total choreo not just step seqs

Well, I don't remember if the idea for Misha's SP came from Lambiel or Misha or Olga, and it turned out alright. In the end I'm not really worried about his programs, I just want to see him landing his stuff.

His SP idea is from Olga. If I remember it right, the time they flew to Lambiel they had already had something, so Lambiel advised and helped with their stsq. Also, same here, it will be my wish for new season: don't pop them, dear.

It's interesting that Russians tended to dislike Misha's SP either for its own sake (weird music mix, arms etc.) or think it doesn't suit him or both, and be more favourably inclined towards his LP. On the other hand, from English speakers, e.g. commentators, there has been more criticism of his LP and that it is the LP that isn't really him. Not sure why the difference.

I don't know, how familiar are Russian people with Elvis? Because for me and some of the people I made watch skating with me, the performance side of the Elvis just didn't work. It improved over the course of the season, but I never 'bought' it from him and he always seemed really in and out of the performance. Whereas the SP showed off how good his basic skating is better.

Maybe if you don't have as strong an idea of what Elvis is 'supposed' to be it works better? But I don't know.

I think people just took it as "he isn't really trying to be Elvis, just dancing to his music" and weren't too bothered by it.

On the other hand, a lot of people felt classical music isn't where Misha should go.
