Alina Zagitova

Oh God, that ruined my day. I dreamed of a tango for the short and something unique and rarely used for the free. Phantom of the opera... I have no words. Can't wait to see the miming alla Medvedeva. :shock2:

Will they start choreographing the free program before june? If the "no more than 4 jumps in the second half" rule passes, they need to find another piece of music probably. I have read that Eteri picks the music for her backloading students very carefully.

Riverdance for the free, come on Alina! Good backloading music too.

Even if Alina doesn't get a tango for her LP - maybe she could at least get one for her exhibtion.

I 100% agree that she would be fantastic with tango music. I don't know much about dancing - but it seems like her sharp, precise movements and her flexibility would really be highlighted in tango music.

I think Tango will lend itself well to jumps too (Kolyada's short had some tango mixed in with classical), and it has nice dramatic movements possibilities that I think Alina would do really well.

Madonna....that would be cool beyond words, you are a genius!!

Zhenya skated to Vogue, right? (her EX Europeans 2017). So maybe Madonna is already on Daniil's speed dial.

lol... I meant I would want a program that inspires freshness, fun, colour - something similar to what Madonna expresses in the video.

That would be great!!! Major thumbs up :)

Now.... I really may be going out on a limb here....

But how about Simon & Garfunkel's "The Boxer" for her Long Program?

That would be a fresh idea for sure.

Please no :noshake: Something dignified, not some stale pop celebrity

I think each musical genre should be explored in figure skating, including pop, and it may result in excellent programs depending on the music cut, choreo, costumes etc. But no, I didn't suggest to take that piece....

Just me who feels like they may be choosing POTO to help her get into character or because they don’t have massive faith in her performance abilities. All three of her senior pieces have associated characters which go with them and provide a persona for her to adopt.

It might be... even the short in the juniors was a character based program.
Perhaps she feels more comfortable interpreting a character.

I would love if they use a more modern version of POTO, like Lindsey’s

I don’t know if Alina has the enough speed that the music requires, but it’s my favorite version

The choice for Alexey Erokhov is a masterpiece>

Definitely interresting choice.

It's a relief :) I'm not against such genre, if proper piece is chosen, although I must confess in figure skating I really prefer classic, orchestral or piano music (and mostly without singingm but of course with reasonable exceptions), I'm just against those persons, whose fame is based more on - ehm - completely different things than musicality

I don't think there is anything wrong with her performance abilities and to me this comment comes across as a sneaky form of bashing. If I misunderstood I am sorry.

In my opinion this whole "get into charcter" thing in skating (with the exception of ice dance) is overrated. It is more about the music itself and the type of movements that best highlight the music. The skater is performing either a 2 1/2 minute or 4 minute snippet of music from a ballet, opera, musical, movie etc... not much time for "character development" (Of course, a "Charlie Chaplin" theme would be an exception - but once again a few poses don't make a program)

For example what I enjoyed about DQ so much was the selections of music used - more lyrical in the first half and then much more rhythmic and driving in the second half which really highlighted the jumps. I got caught up in this so much the first time I saw her perform DQ I was kinda hoping she would do 32 double axels at the end of the program :cheer2:

YES YES YES

From your keyboard to her choreographer's ear!!!!

One thing I loved so much about her "Black Swan" SP was that is was music from "Black Swan" and not "Swan Lake", but most importantly the use of the "Moonlight" music. To me it gave the program more of and "edge".

Yes, but I noticed that even when their skaters have more abstract programs they try to associate them with a concrete life situation because it's easier for the skater to perform this way.
For example, Alena Kostornaya's free program was lyrical, but they made up a story for her (something about friendship and disappointment if i recall correctly)
