Alina Zagitova

I thought the same! Usually the skater is either in the Kiss&Cry with their coach or backstage with their coach when they realize they won. (Still remember Sarah Hughes and Robin falling on the floor!) Alina looked so alone with the doll. It was just shocking in the moment. Glad the longer video showed Kaitlyn and Satoko congratulating her :)

She has a serious amount of poise for a 15 year old!
The first thing I thought of when Alina knew she won the gold medal were Tara & Sarah's reactions and how quiet Alina was.

I figured she probably wanted to do cartwheels, but she reined in her excitement out of respect for Evgenia. A very classy reaction from someone so young.

Then a couple of days later I saw on NBC a retrospective of the 1988 Olympics and the "Battle of the Brians" and the "Battle of the Carmens". Brian Boitano said he didn't celebrate right away when he knew he won out of respect for Brian Orser, who he knew for quite despondent over losing.

Bad Joke Time: Alina was simply following what we all should ---- "WHAT WOULD BRIAN BOITANO DO????"

I was also glad to see the longer video with Kaitlyn & Satoko. Its funny - none of them speak the same language, yet they communicated their feelings beautifully.

Kinda off topic - but Sarah Hughes and her coach's reaction was probably one of my favorite Olympics moments of all time. I didn't even realize Sarah had won - I was just glad that she skated so well and had definitely earned a medal. Then I was WHAT?????? WOW!!!! YAYYYYYYYYY!!!!

I must confess.
I was so utterly in love with DQ since 2017 Nats, murdering that yt replay button like an addict. Red Ballerina's grace and increasing tempo of the program had been simply overwhelming, too good to stop watching!
I would have never EVER expected anything better from Alina last season, but the 2018 Euros came and first clean performance of BS arrived. Oh man! The drama, choreo, costume, gestures, face - they all exploded just before my eyes leaving me speechless and with goosebumps! I saw a maturity, an interpretation, I saw a Figure Skater.

Since then... Well I still like you DQ, but...:love::love:

So perfectly worded. Thank you.
(For me - the first time I saw Alina was DQ at Cup of China - and I have been hooked ever since)

She outscored Michelle. I love Tara Lipinski's reaction it was pure it was real. But I also loved Alina Zagitovas reaction after she won Gold in the Olympics she was so quiet so reserved out of respect for Zhenya and her coaches who are Alinas coaches too.

On a side note Tara look like such a baby when she won the gold medal so young. So cute though.
Alina really showed such class and maturity. That was my first glimpse into what her off-ice personality was and I was very impressed.

RE: Tara Lipinski. She was so tiny and looked so young - but she was a gutsy competitor. I think what won her the gold medal was the triple-triple sequence (with the half loop in between) almost at the end of her program. You gotta be supremely confident to do that. I can still hear Scott Hamilton's "ON TIRED LEGS!!!!) She knew the score - if she was going to have a chance, then she had to throw everything at the judges.

Thanks for telling us who that lady is! Happy to hear Alina has a personal angel. :)

Sorry, not sure if this is a repeat qn cos I asked something similar in anr thread (but still didn't get a good sense). At 3:04 in this video, Eteri goes over especially to pull Zhenya and pushed her into the arms of the Director General (and then they had a long chat), but Eteri didn't seem to ask Alina to specially to go to him and even when Alina went over later, it was quite short. Any insight as to what was going on? Culturally or any insider sense into the relationships?
I replied to you in the Evgenia's fan fest.
Eteri did the same with Alina after the victory interview at Europeans, i saw a fan cam I don't know if it still exists, but I suppose you should trust my words.
It seems that some people have an appetite for looking for drama and intrigue

Tatjana Flade always help Alina with translations during some competition, also , I think, she was first person who congratulated Alina after gold medal, she was near to Alina in a waiting room .. some people calls her - Alina personal angel ))

Tatjana Flade was there for taking Alina an interview (after gold medal). People are professional.
Also, Tatjana often writes for Russian Fed official website and acts as a translator.

Sotoko and Kaitlyn were also alone in the waiting room. I suppose this was the protocol this time.

Oh, thanks for replying! Sorry, I must have missed your reply then; I tot my qn got lost in all the subsq msgs on (rumoured) coach changes which I was skipping thru!

Coincidentally, Ed Roz just posted the fan cam at 3018 which I just viewed for the first time. I see it now. :)

No drama, no drama. ;)

I think so too. And this fits with what Alina said in one of her Instagram live chats (from 30.04.2017) where she said that when she is feeling down her pets cheer her up.

Back then it was just Iriska and the two chinchillas, now they will get a big reinforcement in the cheering squad.

This is a link to the mentioned chat on YouTube (it is super long, over 55 min) midway through someone started translating what Alina was saying in the comments (no subs for this one):

Cheering squad - love that image! :hap10:

Thanks for mentioning the midway translations! I gave up on the video cos I had no clue what she was saying. Will go watch it now!

Forgot to add that: translations start appearing in comments around 0:15:09 (after that they appear every so often, first one person then another one starts translating and they pretty much go on with until the end of the video).

Edited to re-add link to video: https://youtu.be/2XF7XVyNS_s

Alina's interview that aired after showing her EX program on SOI Japan, it is short but super sweet, she looks happy as always.

This is my first show , I'm very good at spending time here , I still did not realize that I won the Olympics.
if I were told a year ago that I will win the Olympics - I would not believe.
Now I want to show senior skating . I do not know what will happen tomorrow, I live today.
Thanks to all fans for support :)

Thanks for the translation!
I think it would be a difficult next season for Alina, as she has to prove that the last season wasn't just the luck of beginner. And also because there might be some body changes over the summer.
It's good to see that she still seems really involved in the training.

Masaru will also save Alina during tough times in the upcoming season. She is going to have a lot of pressure on her as the reigning OC and the wonderful thing about dogs is that they really need your attention and energy. No matter what kind of day she has Masaru will be waiting for play-time, snuggles and walks at the end of it. Dogs have a way of taking you out of your own head during stressful times. :) As much as Alina will take care of Masaru, Masaru will also take care of Alina.
I think so too. :)
Alina is very much loved in Japan.

According to a Japanese newspaper article,
https://www.sponichi.co.jp/society/news/2018/05/04/kiji/20180503s00042000412000c.html

This Akita dog breeder who with 60 years career said, "I have never seen such a pretty puppy. She is an Akita beauty, friendly. I hope her to be happy with Alina in Russia”
Masaru will meet Alina at the end of this month at the figure skating association link in Moscow.

Thanks for the translation!

and dont forget , Alina will be a leader of the Russian team , this will add responsibility , I think Zenja leaves the team, I'm sure for 90% .
No more reason to waste her health, Zenja train is tutuu . Sad, but true :( I will miss her
