2018-19 Russian Ladies' figure skating

I think Canadian Fed will let Evgenia do SkCan actually. She's already been before, in 2016-17, and it didn't hurt Katelyn's GPF chances then. They also don't have a host pick that could contend for a medal, and Gabby will probably go elsewhere.

No, they'd probably prefer to have neither Evgenia or Alina. That way Kaetlyn has the best chance of winning it.

Pretty sure both Canadian Fed (because threat to Osmond's gold there) and Medvedeva herself (massive loss of reputation if she falters and loses to Osmond)

I think Zhenya might get Skate Canada and NHK, while Zagi could get Rostelecom? Completely random guesses:

2018 Skate America - October 19–21 - Zagitova, Radionova, Panenkova
2018 Skate Canada - October 26–28 - Medvedeva, Sotskova, Tsurskaya
2018 Cup of China - November 2–4 - Radionova, Tuktamysheva, Kostantinova
2018 NHK Trophy - November 9–11 - Medvedeva, Sotskova
2018 Rostelecom Cup - November 16–18 - Zagitova, Kostantinova, (host pick Gubanova?)
2018 Internationaux de France - November 23–25 - Tsurskaya, Tuktamysheva, Panenkova

- Actually, do World Standings say Zagi and Med can't be in the same event before the final?

No, only the seeded skaters are prevented from facing each other pre GPF.

I think Zagitova will do COR, she is Olympic champion after all, and COC by process of elimination - Bradie Tennell is in the same group of seeds so will do SA, SC won't want Osmond and Zagitova at the same competition, and NHK is back to back weeks with COR and a different continent. Unless Alina is happy to do COR and IDF back to back it'll have to be COC.

Medvedeva I think will do NHK and IDF. She's just changed coaches, needs to recover from injuries, get new programs and her feet under the table etc. so I think will want to do late season GPs if at all possible.

However there’s also the possibility of her doing COC and clashing with Alina. She’s never won COC never even took part, but she’s won all the others and this would give her the full set. Also COC and IDF will be like kids in a sweet shop (see last season) as they pick all sorts of great skaters as the other federations kind of do a slow bicycle race to protect their favourites. Hence it is possible they could meet here, or even IDF (see above).

I don’t think Rostelecom will pick Evgenia BTW, I think they’ll want the big clash on Russian soil to wait till Nationals.

Finally at Rostelecom I think the Host Pick will be between Anna Pogorilaya if she returns, or Anastasiia Gubanova following her good showings at Russian Nationals and coaching move to Buyanova. After that I think they’ll pick Maria Sotskova as the 2nd spot so there’s a good chance of a 1-2, maybe even 1-2-3.

Sounds logical:clap:

And I hope Gubanova gets that spot. She deserves it.
Do we already know for sure she turns senior, by the way?

I hope so. In juniors, the same thing might happen as last year. She gets a low placing because she faces one of the Super Stars (second place can be too low for a second spot, as the other Anastasia G. found), and she's out of the JGP. Next year all the attention will be on the four stars turning senior, so she might want to make a name there before that.

I dream of Nastya Gubanova turns up as COR host pick and wins the competition.
She confirmed that she'll be turning senior with two new programmes earlier in live video, hopefully this stays true after moving to Buyanova.

I also hope that Panenkova gets two assignment, and at least one of these assignments do not clash with Med/Zag so that she actually has a shot for entering Grand Prix Final. However, I doubt that would happen with her current international PCS being 27+54 which is a >30 points less than that of Med/Zag. She could easily score 230 consistently if RusFed finally recognizes her potential. And she also needs a proper GOE boost, it is shocking that this 2A with the most difficult entry I have ever seen in ladies, gets only +0.64.

So, Tarusina is also working on quads and there are chances they'll include 4T in her program next season.

Her rotation speed is amazing - Faster than Trusova's - But I'm surprised that she's found the air time for that.

Aah, if she actually does manage to add a 4T that'll be something!

I think she has good chances to get JGP next season, especially with 4T.

I dream only of Evgenia getting her full GP set....
... Alina and Evgenia and Daria and Polina all in the final...
... a Russian winning every single GP...
... an all-Russian final...
... an all-Russian JGPF...

This one should be the most likely outcome. I don't think anyone exists to threaten an all-Russian JGPF. It doesn't even matter if a couple of skaters have poor performances.

I really don't see it for seniors, however. Not this year.

That's definitely true...
here's what I'm envisioning if there's no surprises a la Gubanova last year:
Trusova
Kostornaya
Tarakanova
Shcherbakova
Tarusina
Sinitsyna
1st alternate: Kanysheva

BUT they have to be smart and give 7 girls 2 spots each and not be stupid like they were this year. No more JGPs for Konstantinova, Fedichkina, skaters who couldn't perform well there and they knew it

I think Zagitova wil get COR and COC. Medvedeva I suppose she wouldn't want to do Skate Canada (she'll face Osmond there and it's historically a difficult grand prix), so Skate America and NHK.

I would frame it differently: Osmond would not want to face Medvedeva. I don't think at this point Medvedeva cares about anyone but Zagitova.

Poor Fedichkina.☹️☹️☹️ I knew those jumps would be a problem once she hit puberty. Look back at her in 2015/16. Not the best height. Poor girl, she was so cute as the cat from Memory.

It's not like Osmond ever beat Medvedeva - although since it's gonna be an adjustment season for Med, she might have a slow start. Either way, bc she's gonna train in Canada it could be convenient to go there for her!

I like Stasya and Fedi. Beautiful girls. In a normal skating world they can still improve alot but the depth with Russian girls is impossible. They dont have the luxury to keep their spot and take years to develope which has worked out great for Kostner and Osmond. Obviously younger Russian girls pass by older Russian girls all the time. It is normal in their figure skating world.
