2018-19 Russian Ladies' figure skating

I actually think the coach is minor.
Internationally, they care more about the fed, not the specific coach. You dont see a skater overscored because coached by X, or got choreo by Y ^^
Nationally, coach is relevant, yes, when there are many talented skaters, because you need the spots. But for that, Eteri is actually not a good one, because her skaters seem to be the less propped on internal competitions.

Internationally, yes, I agree with that. But to get to any international competitions you need to place at least somewhere near the podium at Nationals. So, nationals and therefor your coach‘s reputation are important. Just look at Konstantinova. If she was coached by a no-name, no one would have even thought about sending her to worlds. But I agree with the last part about Eteri. ^^

I really am looking forwards to seeing Alina's new programs! I want so see which direction she takes and how she will mature and develop! Last year I actually preferred her SP to her FS, so I hope we will se some more intense programs like that! I think she does have a lot of room to improve interpretation wise, so I'm glad they chose something dramatic like POTO which I think could allow her to do just that. I also want to see her in costumes different from the tutu ahah.

Just, please, ditch that EX [emoji3]
I also think these intense and dramatic programs fit her really well, especially with the growing climax and her backloaded jumps.

However I still don't understand how on Earth onde day she woke up like : "hey, I wanna do a lion King exhibition with weird moves and strange music and a candle"

It just doesn't seem right. The pink Panter was so much more enjoyable

I don’t think she chose her EX herself. I also look forward to Alina’s new programs and how much she improved !

Wasn't her who chose it, it was her team. I remember Gleikh, the choreographer, gave an interview where he said they gave Alina this EX because she's so cat-like. As weird of a program as it is, I'd be fine with it if it wasn't her only EX for the season... like come on, give her some variety! I hope we see a new one when she does her round of events later this summer.

Even though it wasn't her choice after all, couldn't she have asked to change? I mean, hadn't she liked it, she wouldn't have kept it the whole season.

I also don‘t like her EX even though it‘s certainly unusual but if Alina had not liked it surely she would have asked to get a different one? I‘ve said it so many times already, I know, but if she doesn‘t get new EX programs please let her do the black swan as her EX. It‘s just one of my favourite programs of her! Everyone‘s talking about Don Quixote when in reality, SP was what decided her win at the Olympics. In FP, Zhenya and Alina had the same score. If she hadn‘t set that world record with her black swan, she‘d have won silver. So please, honour the swan!!

I'm sure she doesn't hate it, but I also think she's still at an age where she just goes with the "coaches know best" mentality and does what she's told without demanding to have input. Or at least was at that age when the program was made.

Personally, I think that‘s okay. She‘s only 16, she has a lot of time! Probably the coaches still know best, at least until she finds her own personality, her own skating style and connection on the ice. This does take some time but she’ll figure it out who she wants to be and what she wants to portray. Then she can start having real input or even choreographing her own EX programs like Evgenia does.

I like the music in particular and the routine in general; I just think that a skin-tight tiger outfit with large swaths cut out of it is a little inappropriate for a fifteen-year-old. She's too young for sexy, and that outfit is sexy. The Pink Panther was cute.

Yeah, I don't think it's bad either. Pretty natural for a 15y/o who was only leaving juniors. But I'm very interested to see how having the title of an OC changes her in the upcoming season, or even in the upcoming shows, and whether it can already give her confidence to start exploring herself artistically.

I didn‘t mind the costume that much, actually. I mean, skating outfits usually are really short dresses, at least that tiger costume covered her whole body. But yeah, I agree, all in all, it just seemed like „too much“. The rolling around the ice at the start with that candle in that tiger costume with the weird music... Not my taste. But it was something that stood out at least. Whether good or bad, everyone needs to decide themselves.

I think it already did, to be honest, at least a bit! From the little footage I saw of her at shows and galas, she seemed a lot more confident and happy. At the Olympics, she barely talked to anyone at the Gala, was kind of akward and shy. Now she constantly beams on fotos and in general looks a lot different! I don‘t know how that will portray to her skating but I hope it does! That‘s why I‘m so excited about what her new programs will look like this season!

If not postet before, these are the Russian Team members for the 18-19 season:
Alina Zagitova
Evgenia Medvedeva
Maria Sotskova
Polina Tsurskaya
Stanislava Konstantinova
Elizaveta Tuktamysheva

substitutes:
Elena Radionova
Anna Pogorilaya
Serafima Sakhanovich

I'm wondering if anybody tried to figure out who will get 2 GP assignments and how many assignment quota Russia will have in total? Quite important given how insanely crowded it is with the Russian women. If you have any info please post it, thank you.

Also made a post in the GP assignment thread:
https://www.goldenskate.com/forum/s...-assignments&p=2115144&viewfull=1#post2115144
Does anybody have any info on the № of quotas the Rus. women will have for the GP?

Last season it was 18, which, IIRC, is the maximum per country. They had 8 people with two GPs plus Sakhanovich and Mihhailova with one GP. (not counting one spot lost due to Pogo's injury). This season the Russian team members are: Zagitova, Medvedeva, Sotskova, Tsurskaya, Konstantinova, Tuktamysheva. The substitutes are: Radionova, Pogorilaya, Sakhanovich. The 6 members should get 2 GP spots. If the subs all get two as well, thats 9 skaters with 2 assignments which maxes out the quotas, meaning that Gubanova and Panenkova won't see competition until nationals. Most likely Radionova will get two with a few aforementioned gettiong one each. Possibly Pogo will also get two which should leave Sakhanovich and Gubanova with one. With this in mind, it is possible that Gubanova and Panenkova will stay in Jrs... where they'll have to reface the quad monsters.

It is so crowded with the Russian women so again, the main question is, will Russia have the 18 quotas for any of this to happen? Please let me know if anyone has any info.

No one knows the quotas.
But on the first page of the thread, it shows skaters guaranteed assignments. Broken down further:
Alina: guaranteed 2
Maria: guaranteed 2
Evgenia: guaranteed 1 but will get 2
Polina: guaranteed 1 but will likely get 2
Elena: guaranteed 1 but will likely get 2
Elizaveta: guaranteed 1 but will likely get 2
Daria: guaranteed 1 but will likely get 2
Stanislava: guaranteed 1 but will likely get 2

As you will notice, this is 16 out of the max 18 spots. If there is still room for a host spot, I think it's likely to go to Anastasia Gubanova. If it doesn't, then Anna Pogorilaya or Sofia Samodurova are my next two top choices.

This means no spots for Alena or Serafima, but the competition will be even fiercer in 2019-2020 with the 4A as seniors.

Thank you. :)

Unless the ISU spends the year to properly formulate the age raise proposal, which will have much more weight then the rushed, one month before the congress, initiative...

I found an info somewhere in VK, that Alina would like to do COR and NHK, but she won't get the first one.
Anybody knows why?

Well no one really knows if it's true anyway but if it were me, it would be because they need to invite Zhenya and they don't want the two to face. Of course Zhenya is going to get invited somewhere else, but it's better for them if they make it easier on themselves by only needing one other invite. Unlike Alina, no one is forced to invite her, and places with top contenders (well, besides Japan) will always protect their own by not inviting other threats unless they have to. Places have to invite Alina (and who wouldn't want her?) but this makes it easier for them concerning Evgenia. And of course, they don't want them meeting before the Final.

The age-raise proposal was ridiculous and most people knew it, though...
