Alina Zagitova

Off season is finally killing me, thank god in a little bit we will have GP assignment news (which should rock the boat and bring some news), then test skates (last year we had video of those), then "The Ice" which should bring videos, photos, maybe interviews and if we are really lucky some more Japanese TV Shows (I wanna see another Game Show with Alina so bad I might write to the station asking for it).

Off season.. it's boring

Yup..and meanwhile maybe we will find out the music for the free skate, too. I am really curious about that :scratch2:

Maybe we will, but last year we kind of didn't before she performed it, am I right? Only the SP was known to be new and what it was (Black Swan pose picture?).

I have to admit I think that 3 new programs may be quite a lot to take in (SP, FS and EX), I would have liked better if they kept the Black Swan SP (it was a new program after all and many, many, skaters keep programs for two seasons at least), and it would need the least tweaking to adapt to the new rules. They should've used Phantom as new FS.

Keeping DQ as FS makes no sense since it was the older program of the two and it would need some major reworking of the jumps (which would in turn ruin the sync to the music, one of the program's strengths), no use making them all in the second half as now it is risk without reward and the 3 last jumping passes of that program were all singles (it would be worth it now to make at least one a combo, probably two - I think making all three combos the last thing would be the ultimate risk for the biggest reward but I don't think it is doable as it would leave zero room to change order of combos). Anyways...I don't see how they can keep DQ. So two new programs it apparently is.

I want to know so bad how it will be.....

I guess they did not talk about it because they did not change it and they decided to use the one from the previous year...:scratch2:

I am a little worried about this, too...3 new programs, that's a lot. On the other hand, she won't have backloaded programs anymore, so her programs will be easier for her to perform. After so many difficult, backloaded programs, now it will be a piece of cake (or at least that's what I hope for :pray:)

I think removing the backloading will make it easier for her too, she was the only one that could do it to this extent and she had to be trained for it. I’ll forever be impressed by how her breathing was even and she wasn’t winded at all after doing it. She didn’t even sweat!!!

With more time to spread out her energy across a program she can further improve her skating skills elements and, of course, her jumps. Landing extensions, pre rotation, under rotation, speed, height and distance are the main things to focus on, she has great landing extensions, pre rotation and under rotation are not big problems for her, she has great height in her jumps, distance is also great in most of them, speed she can improve for sure.

She is great in ice coverage and has nice speed but that’s the thing I think she has the most to gain on, becoming consistently faster. Since her FS focused on doing elements at the start she wasn’t super fast during all of that bit and it taught her to sort of pace herself and slow down. Plus of this is she can jump with very little preparation.

I have a feeling that with the new -5/+5 judges will focus a lot more on all of these elements I mentioned above to award GOE on all jumping passes.

I know her performance at World's may have been an anomaly but her falls in DQ basically show the big downside to back loading in that one stumble throws the rest of the program in almost complete disarray.

Maybe I'm wrong but I thought that a post Olympic year offers more room for experimentation since there isn't as much pressure to make the Olympic team. DQ was the high risk, high reward program that essentially let her win when she stumbled in the SP at her grand prix events.

Although Eteri probably has other thoughts...

Really, my question about first noticing Alina and the answers are gone :furious:
(we are reaching Yuna Kim's thread with the number of pages, maybe that's the reason )

I had a tiny hope that she could be in the ceremony in Moscow, or rather as the first gold medalist from 2018 Olympics she should be evolved

ISU visited our thread [emoji23][emoji23] to remove backloading bonus

Alina is the queen anyway, so, like her, we will rise again [emoji1320]
