2018-19 Russian Ladies' figure skating

I'm in the opposite opinion about the comfort zone. I think she is now in her comfort zone, the un-comfort could have been to stay and be number one, as she is, in Eteri's team.

I agree with the experiment more thing, different ones etc...

I don‘t know, leaving one‘s previous coach behind who‘s known and worked with her for 11 years to move to a different country and train there, not yet fully fluid in the language spoken there and to top that, lots of countrymen and the Russian fed who won‘t be too happy about this change... doesn‘t seem like comfort zone to me. It seems like a pretty daring move. Maybe she‘s now in a „comfort zone“ as in a place where she feels happier and calmer. But I think she first had to move out of the comfort zone and push forward to arrive there. :)

I feel like people will still debate this in 20 years, long after both Evgenia and Alina retire.

None Russian speaker here. In short, what does the comment say?😅

In first link Zhulin said: "... it is wrong to express discontent with the fact that Tutberidze did not leave Zagitova in juniors. The coach does not make this decision. At the same time, Eteri wanted Medvedev's win at the Olympic Games. I know about this from personal conversation. It would be more correct and fair. But competition can not be canceled"
In the second video Eteri slightly jokingly says "no no, don't tell her that she is an Olympic champion". It's important - "don't tell her" (not "don't call her") - this means that she should not get "star" disease.

Evgenia’s entire life was chasing, overthrowing, and fighting off other girls in her own training environment...That was literally her norm.

This is why it'll be interesting how she'll be able to motivate herself from now on. Whether it's actually a good thing or not to her, and how she's able to deal with her new training environment. There are many unknowns in play.

It's not "norm" - it's everyday hard work. "Way of the Samurai", "hellish road" - words of Eteri on home conference after OG. Eteri's ladies team it's Everest, it's hard to live there and you have to fight every day. And Orser has a quiet comfortable ladies swamp (results my friend's, results).

Don't tell me about Yunа - eight years ago, dinosaurs still walked on the Earth. And for god's sake don't mention Yuzuru and Fernandos - boys and girls are different (in Russia we still remember about that)

That Eteri wanted Evgenia to win.

I mean compare Eteri’s reactions at the K&C after each girls short program. She’s happy during Zhenya’s. And she has a look of shock after Alina’s score is announced. She then looks to the side at someone else. She seems almost angry but then gets a hold of herself and claps.

After Alina’s free skate she doesn’t look happy. Her skater just guaranteed herself a medal. And yet Eteri isn’t congratulating Alina, she appears to be calculating in her head what Zhenya needs to win.

I’m still of the belief that Eteri psychologically sabotaged Alina at worlds. Maybe intentionally, maybe more subconsciously. But I do not think Eteri wanted her to sweep every competition in her first senior year. Because she believed Zhenya was they superior skater and didn’t want her to be overshadowed. Although I’m sure her feelings changed after Zhenya left.

A found a group photo of one of Moskvich's younger groups here.

Sigh, still over a month to go until the season truly begins... It's such a struggle.

Agreed, but I'm optimistic. I have a feeling that Orser's going to be really into Evgenia, guiding another highly successful lady after his 1-2 punch combo with Yuzuru and Javi in mens. We'll see. :party2:

2018-2019 State of Russian Ladies' Skating

Ah it wouldn’t be a backread here without someone being snide or perpetually pressed.

On another note, is it just me or did Eteri take several Chinese girls over the summer?

What a performance. I’ve gone back and watched this program a few times over the last couple of days and I don’t think it gets enough credit. She truly mesmerized everyone and IMO had absolute command of the ice. I think her spins actually fit the music quite well and she has a way of accelerating into the jumps with some nice connecting steps. Like right when you think she hit top speed she throws in two more steps and just accelerated into send it mode. I also think there is some nuance to the overall choreography and it’s not all just jumps as I’ve seen people say about it. It’s not as showy as the SP but it does have character and feel. But the most prominent thing that stands out is her lack of set up into jumps. It’s unbelievable really justvhow quick she pops into them.

I don’t know...I just want to be on the record as saying someone out there really likes the program and thinks it deserves every point it got :drama:
