I’ve been doing what I do and visiting back to some old Yulia videos over the past few days. I know right....no surprise there and I’m not trying to make a Yulia post per se but one thing that stuck out though ;) was that in 2013-14 about the only place she didn’t get a standing ovation was at Rostelecom Cup and maybe Russian Nationals...we all know she got one in Sochi :)

Think about it...in Japan she was a legitimate threat to Mao and they still stood and cheered for her at both GPF and WC.

I think it’s really cool when skaters find a way to break thru to international fans and tear down some of the barriers that tend to divide us. I know that she isn’t the only skater to do this and I’d like to see some of the other standing ovations people got while away from home.

So let’s see some more. Please share some of the standing ovations skaters earned while on the road from the “away fans”. Hopefully this is a fun thread and I look forward to see other cool standing ovations

Thanks for sharing!
My contribution is the Nice WC LP for Yuzu.
This was his first World Championship, in France, and that year there were strong contenders in France for the podium, Jobert and Amodio. Yuzu didn't have a ton of fans travelling around the world to see him skate yet.
This is a rink-side camera, and you can see how the stands erupt when the music ends.:points:

Javi guys and dolls lp at worlds 2016! I was there in person and the cheers were SO loud and enthusiastic! Definitely the biggest crowd reaction for the whole men’s event. I think we all started standing up and cheering a good 15 seconds before his program even ended lolol it was such a magical moment 💕

It's the first one I thought about too. From 4:50 to 5:03, it shows the standing ovation. And R&J 1.0 is till one of my favorite programs from yuzuru.

Here's another impressive one.

Zijun Li @2013 WC in Canada, skating to Sleeping Beauty. The crowd almost went wild after she finished.

Also Wakaba Higuchi at 2018 Milan WC

Loved the audience in Saitama! They definitely give deserving performances standing ovations including after Carolina's SP and all top 4 dance teams in the thrilling free dance event. My favourite from that WC is the standing ovation given to Tomas Verner. The synchronicity of the audience clapping, before they stood up after finally seeing a perfect skate for him, at his last competition. This upcoming World Championships will be a treat for the skaters.

From other competitions, my favourites include Jeffrey Buttle's 2008 WC FS and Pang/Tong's 2010 OG FS. Great to hear the cheers grow in volume as the final element progresses and you kind of know that the audience will reward the skaters' efforts with a standing ovation.

V/M after there FD in Pyeonchang:

The crowd also was the loudest i had ever heard for an ice dance team. It made me feel like i was at a hockey match

One of the best things about this is to see Wang/Liu standing (left hand side in white coats), along with Kana Muramoto and Canadian fans. I think I also see Shiyue taking in a deep breath, perhaps because she knows how close the battle for gold is. W/L have indicated how much they look up to V/M on numerous occasions.

every time i watched this... it hits me right through the heart. such a heartfelt flawless and passionate performance...

of course it was at home in Montreal, and during SOI.. but the crowd there was insane as well... we couldn't hear the music when they skated a show version of MR

Pretty much anything Jeremy Abbott has skated in Japanese venues.

Denis Ten at the 2009 Worlds in L.A.: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZiD4mdf9AvY&t=343s
Also at 2015 Four Continents (both the short & the free)

The Shibs had standing ovations everywhere on the GP in 2015-16: Canada, Japan, & Barcelona.

Ashley Wagner at 2015 Skate Canada.

Nathan Chen at Worlds in Italy.

Javier Fernandez at 2014 Skate Canada (SP) and at 2016 Worlds in Boston (LP).

Sasha Cohen used to get them, but it's been too long for my brain to go back & retrieve which events & when.

There are a bunch more, but these are some of my most memorable ones. Will probably add more later.

I was at the free skate in 2010. The Canadians were on their feet clapping and cheering when Yuna finished her program. Many were shaking in disbelief at what they had just seen. What a glorious night it was and I am so glad I was able to see her live. Stark contrast to Sochi where the audience chanted for Adelina after Yuna's performance. My Russian-Canadian friends went to the event and were disgusted at the reaction. The Sochi crowd had no manners and zero appreciation of skaters from other nationalities. What an embarrassment that was. On a happier note, Alina and Evgenia had great reception at PyeongChang.

Standing ovation and feet clapping :) for Shoma Uno, Javier Fernandez and Yuzuru at Men's FP during Barcelona's second GP Final. I was there and the atmosphere and noise were simply fantastic.

Boyang Jin after his SP and Kazuki Tomono for his FS at Milan 2018, both got a huge reaction from the audience
