If Yuzuru is smart he'll have put the kibosh on Boyang coming to TCC. He's said it himself, he's no Javi; he wouldn't risk fostering a main competitor under 'his' roof. Yuzu may have been friendly and courted the Chinese federation since 2014 but even for a 'keep your enemies close' strategy this would be a little too far.
Ridiculous. Hanyu loves strong competitors on the same rink with him.
Also, Hanyu is not even sure he will go for 2022. Orser taking in new students for 2022 is something Hanyu himself cannot go against. He does not own Cricket Club.

And it is funny you draw this speculation when all the rumors from the Chinese sites indicate that Boyang himself does not want to go? What if it is true that Boyang loves his home and finds most comfortable at his home? Why should he listen to people and to the fed and follow their orders? Of all people, Boyang has the best say for himself, on what is the best for him.

Yes, Yuzuru did say Javier was almost too nice and generous for competition (with the clear implication "but I'm not") but I can't see this.

Firstly while he is extremely important to the TCC (he's their biggest star pupil, and the last thing Brian wants is another split like Yuna with another star pupil) he's not made it clear how much longer he intends to compete and being a practical sort, he knows full well that the TCC's business can't be put on hold even for him. Secondly, he is very smart - IIRC he and Javi have both acknowledged how much they owe to being there together, training partners and competitive friends, helping and challenging each other. Yuzu has publicly said he owes part of his success to Javi. Given that, I'm inclined to think he'd be more likely to accede to a new 'friendly competitor' to push him to more heights, and of all the top flight, Boyang is the one (IMO) he'd be most amendable to having around.

I don't actually see Jason, Boyang or anyone else taking Javi's place as his training partner, but that's something different.

Like some decisions or not, I really don’t think Yuzuru is that kind of person to object to Brian’s or TCC’s decision.

Very true, realistically TCC need a succession plan too. Whether Yuzu like it or not, he has little say in this. I do not believe that he would have said no. Javi will be fading out from competition / training, its good for him to have someone at the top to be in the same training environment. He is used to having someone competing / training with him, Jin should be a good mate with very different skating styles, and they seems to get along quite well after competitions.

If Jin does not want to go..... so be it, it's his choice, lets see how he continues with his good ol' coaches. If there is some other reasons, then good luck to him.

I personally think Yuzuru is now at a level where having a training partner doesn't matter that much. He will do his own thing.

Yuzu went to TCC exactly because he wanted to train with Javi though, so your idea of him not wanting to 'foster' a strong competitor under 'his roof' it's simply untrue.

Well this offseason has officially jumped the shark.

Well, I do not think this is true. It's not about level for Yuzu but rather about motivation, encouragement, support and the ongoing feeling of competition which obviously helps him, he said so himself many times about training with Javier. I do not know if Boyang can fill Javi's skates but I know that Yuzu and Boyang were always very friendly and we all know Yuzuru loves Boyang's 4Lz ;) so I guess we'll have to wait and see, that is if Boyang is even coming to TCC.

Exactly, he noticed Javi got a consistent and great 4T since he went to TCC, it was one of the main reasons Yuzu chose BOrser.

Even if that is true, Yuzu would not say no anyway .......after the Olympics results, there must be many enquiries., with Javi not actively competing Yuzu knows that TCC will be taking on high level skaters. I think Brian had to consider whoever he is brings in positive energy and Jin would be a good choice (Jason only comes at a later stage). Not necessarily having them train together all the time, a good competing mate around will push them to better results.

Interesting all this talk about Yuzuru being accepting or not accepting of Boyang coming to TCC ie whether he’ll be open to having another training mate who is his direct competitor, I wonder how Boyang feels about this?

There’s much speculation about why he’s not yet in Toronto, one spec being he doesn’t want to go. If true, the reasons could certainly be the obvious, not wanting to leave his home country, family, friends etc., but it could also be that he doesn’t wish to train with a direct competitor.

Has his training in the past consisted of him training with competitors? Though some athletes thrive off that type of environment, training next to a competitor, some may not. It can no doubt be a challenge whether the individuals are friendly (i.e. Hanyu/Javi) or not (Plushenko/Yagudin). I could certainly see why an athlete wouldn’t be too keen on the idea of sharing training space with a rival.

Yuzu and Javi were training mates, not training partners. Orser often said that the reason he was able to coach two skaters who were direct competitors was because they had such different personalities. It probably also helped that, by all accounts, they are both good guys who respect each other. Even so, when the pressure of the Olympics heated things up, Orser admitted he was often coaching them at two separate rinks.

I'm baffled by all this "training partner" talk. Why would a singles skater need to "partner" with anyone? These are accomplished adults we're talking about, not small children.

Please bear in mind that many members’ first language is not English, using the word partner may not be as ‘intimate’ as some considered, at least that is how I feel when I read the posts.

I think people has a very unreal idea about skater mates. Certainly Yuzuru and Javier weren’t together all the time, not did they train together always.

Already been put here before.

Looks like we have confirmation now. Reading this Twitter thread it seems that Boyang does not move to Orser:

I feel a bit sad about it tbh. Considering the current situation in China I pray that it won't affect Boyang's skating career in a negative way. He's such a talented and warmhearted guy. Wish him all the best :ghug:

I doubt we'll find out before The Ice either way.

Yes they train apart a lot of times, especially during the Olympic Season, when Brian put them in different rinks, nonetheless the past years which being together for some training sessions do push them both to be better....and they do show that special bond after competitions coz they know they improve with each other. I think that is what training mate means, not to go into dissecting whether is mate or partner as some ppl just use different wordings.
