Denis Ten

Don’t know if this was said before, but Denis was the direct descendant of a Korean independence fighter. Korea will remember him.

He also obviously gave his country Kazakhstan much to be proud about. It is so sad to see such a great person pass away so young. He didn’t deserve this. Rest in peace Denis Ten.

I dedicated my run today to Denis. As I ran, I thought about those years where injuries plagued him, but yet he persisted and got to compete in the Olympics in his ancestral homeland, something I know that was very important to him. I realize that, even in struggle, he still got to live out his passion. That is the best life.

To have that taken away over something so valueless just makes me sad and angry.

Not knowing about medicine, somehow I was hopeful they could do something for him, but reading that he was clinically dead is just so shocking.

I can´t stop thinking in his poor family, losing someone is so shocking, losing someone so young in so such tragic violent way...there are no words that I can tell to made sense of how must they feel.

Believe me, I wish I hadn't known. But when I read 3 litres I kind of knew. You don't come back from that :(

Some details in Mirror (I know not the best source but it is describe how the events unfolded)

Ten was rushed to hospital on Thursday after he was found unconscious in the middle of a street in Almaty, Kazahkhstan, by members of the public.

He had been stabbed in the thigh by two men attempting to steal his car wing mirrors, after a verbal argument turned violent.

He died three hours later, despite desperate resuscitation attempts by doctors, having lost three litres of blood.

"Unfortunately, he is not with us anymore," a Kazakhstan government spokesman said.

“Denis Yurevich Ten spotted two unknown men who tried to steal mirrors from his car," Kazakh police said.

"In a brawl which took place at the scene Ten was wounded with a knife. The incident is being investigated by police, all members of Almaty’s department of internal affairs are involved in the operation aimed at identifying and detaining the criminals.”

If the injury is as described, I doubt doctors could have done much, if he didn´t receive attention

Alena Leonova: "I met Denis back when we both were skating in juniors. He was very kind and supportive person. Kindness was his main trait".

The entire world is crying today, an angel has left it and ascended to heaven. :sad46: It's so shocking to see the kind of world we live in...
Denis will forever remain in our hearts, may his soul find peace and comfort. :sad46:

Having worked in the medical field, I can safely say that a severed femoral artery without immediate emergency medical attention (and oftentimes despite) will usually end in death. It's likely he was already gone by the time he was spotted by members of the public. He would have passed out before his heart stopped, so he didn't suffer at the end, if that's of any comfort, and death would have been incredibly swift.

Does anyone know if they have detained any of his assailants? I can only pray that justice is served!!

Life is so fair that these two bastards will live long. They must be found and sent to jail.

so far, the only thing they said is that they are investigating, and there are descriptions of them. Probably not much info will be released until they are detained.

Gosh, this thread from Alex Shibs was just heart-breaking. I can't begin to imagine how fellow skaters, who have competed along Denis since they were literal kids, feel.

Too unbelievable, sad, and tragic for words. I don’t understand why someone would go to an action like this - especially over car mirrors. They can be replaced and duplicated. A person is not.
