Denis Ten

Such a sad day -- a life for two mirrors. Hugs :ghug: and prayers  for Denis' family as they mourn their unimaginable, untimely loss. Every day we have is a gift. :sad4:

Like many people, I fell in love with Denis' skating at the 2013 Worlds. He had such a classic way of skating with textbook carriage that I thought was becoming passe with IJS style skating. My favorite performance was his 2015 4CC performance. It was so special and so different. I have a soft spot for the Shibs' vlog of 2015 Denis Ten & Friends because we get to see Denis at home and all the work he put into producing the event. He really was the future of this sport and was going to continue to spread this beautiful sport to new places and people. Seeing him speak in the video is so surreal now:

Such a terrible loss ......... such a wonderful man and great figure skater.... :(
Huge sadness.... :(

: Sad21: : Sad4:

This is the last thing I expected to hear today. I really enjoyed his skating and was looking forward to a comeback. My skater started to tear up at the news as well.
I just can't get my head wrapped around the circumstances.

Denis we will miss you! I am so sad I never got to see Denis and Friends...

Such a senseless act of violence causing so much pain. I've been numb and in shock all day over this news. There are simply no words. All of the skaters have been sending such beautiful messages about Denis and it shows how loved and admired he was. He really had an impact in their lives and this sport. He certainly made an impact on us fans. He was going to be such a wonderful leader for this sport. This news is just incredibly sad.

I don't know if this has been posted. Here are Mao Asada's expressions of sorrow, prayers and fond memories for the passing of Dennis Ten and the precious time they shared as friends.

google translate: Why, why, I cannot believe it, I do not want to believe. It is painful. I feel sad that my precious friend's life was robbed.
He came to the show in Japan, invited me to a show in Kazakhstan, we practiced together, played tennis, had a barbecue in Canada and Russia. He was very kind, funny and always trying hard.
I pray for your soul from the the bottom of my heart.

I apologize if there are any mistakes in the google translation or any errors in the minor edits that I made to it.

i left this morning for work, right after crying over the news... Denis was in my thoughts all day... i am just back from work and the devastation and sadness are still strong. All day I thought... omg.. they have killed Denis.. how could anyone kill Denis.... an extremely smart human being, who probably was going to be a great ambassador for the sport for the rest of his life.... The sport has lost so much today. I am still in shock and I was only able to click on one link so far because i just can't console myself yet. How could anyone do this to such a special human being ? This is such a sad day .

The stab to the leg probably ended his career right there. I imagine the ensuing rage then made the matter even worse...

Horrible tragedy. Everyone else here, please learn from this. The only good that can come from this is if it somehow prevents someone else from suffering a similar fate.

I find this insensitive, you don´t know how you gonna react in a violent situation, and this implies that Denis was at fault. The only guilty ones are the criminals that took his life.

You're understandably very emotional about this, so I will just say that I meant to imply nothing about the incident being the fault of Denis.

The 200+ people that died in Japan's floods this month were not at fault...but, in hindsight, we can see that perhaps there were different decisions that could have been made that would have saved lives.

Anyway, I mean no offense, so I will say no more.

The fact that this article exist is sad... but I wanted to know if police in Kazajstan is effective in catching the criminals... it´s tragic what happened, but it would be unthinkable that the crime would go with out punishment...

Also, for the people that know the area, is it a not popular area? I saw a tweet that say the attack could have happened about noon and that Denis arrive to the hospital until 15:23pm? Almost 3 hours later?! I mean sorry about this type of question, I just want to understand, maybe... how this can to happened

Speaking from a police side of things, not sure about crime and punishment in KAZ, but here in Spokane it is catch and release, as far as the police are concerned. Overloaded District attournies reduce charges for guilty pleas, criminals get out of prison early to clear space for more...some criminals have 10 felony convictions or more out there...serious federal gun charges are ignored....I hope KAZ is different but from the article, it sounds like there are lots of preditors out there who dont care....and they are not just in KAZ....lets all be careful out there....the police can not protect you...they can only pic up the pieces.....

How horrible, senseless and tragic. He was far too young to die and it's moments like this that makes one remember just how precious life is and to live every second of it :(

Dennis lived life to its fullest, dreamed big and went for it, brought joy and excitement to many skating fans around the world and served as an inspiration to the many people in his country. It's a beautiful legacy.

My thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends. I can't begin to imagine their heartache at this moment but I know that they have many great memories of him and in time I hope it gives them comfort.

RIP :(

I looked at Instagram and saw Denis' last Instagram video still up there-- he was having dinner out with a friend and showing his meal. Such a terrible tragedy. Do his parents have any other children? It was sad hearing Evan Lysacek's recollection of seeing Denis' mom in the stands, proudly watching Denis skate. Denis was always one of the skaters I looked forward to seeing; even when he didn't have the jumps in his last season, his skating quality and presentation skills were sublime and elegant. I hope the criminals who killed him are found quickly and brought to justice. Remembering Denis now thanks to youtube videos.... It's been a sad day.
