2018-19 Russian Ladies' figure skating

I'm a victim of majority psychology when there are a lot of people who like something, I'm starting to dislike it and the opposite.

What I like, in a sense, from the Sambo choreographies is that they are risky and somehow difficult. If you are not clean they look bad. If Alina falls on her first combo, then she has to rush the spin, will miss the glass shatering and the first half is ruined. If she falls on the 2A she will ruin her "ballerina box" spin moment. By the way this one cut, I found quite beautiful as a consept, it's like trasferring in the programm somewhere else in time and place, something that happens in parallel with the other cuts and not in order.

Just to mention I don't like musical cuts generally, I prefer a continuous, solid piece of music interpreted with integrity.

Good to know that I choreograph wrong.
Yeah, sometimes I choreograph to music, but sometimes I don't and wander around waiting for the right music to come to me

I didn’t realize you were choreographing for elite senoir level skaters.

Can you share your process with us on how you conceive their programs and work with them to edit the music appropriately?

Spirals does Ballet ;)

You were the one who brought dance into this discussion.

This makes my soul die, no one who dances makes choreography then finds music to match it.

🧐

Question still stands!

What ballets are ou choreographing for?

Are they elite level, as in a major showcases that tours or are we looking at recietals that get performed at season end?

What is the process that you go through wih the dancers?

... like everybody else.
God forbid her to do something not-standard. :noshake:
how dare she? Who does she think she is.... :dev2:

"POTO is so ordinary, her choreography may be generic, I wish something non-traditional for her..."

POTO done non-traditional way, choreography anything but generic...

"This is so weird, why not make it usual way, with standard choreography..."

This is sort of off topic. Maybe you should start a thread and invite choreographers to share how they construct their programs.

I'm starting to feel the program is almost avant-garde.
Like it feels experimental.
Whether it was intentional or not ;)

I think you overestimate me but I answered your thread anyway ;)

Alina ZAGITOVA - NEW Short Program (The Ice 2018)
https://youtu.be/6_7rghizj_o

I don't care for how they constructed the program/music: for starters as someone else has stated - if she gets 'off' the music due to a fall or something it will be much more effect the feel to the program as her proceeding moves won't sync with the music. Also I don't like that they did the 20-30 second sampling of different songs of different tempos, it doesn't let her get into a character and at least the first 3 times I've watched it, it's affected my ability to get into the program. And I'm trying to figure out if she messed up the balance 2 of the moves or if they poorly choreographed it - the move where she lefts her leg and spins at the beginning of her footwork sequence(not sure it's called) and at the end with the Ina Bauer.

If she falls on the 2A she will ruin her "ballerina box" spin moment. By the way this one cut, I found quite beautiful as a consept, it's like trasferring in the programm somewhere else in time and place, something that happens in parallel with the other cuts and not in order.

I felt the same way about this part of her program, but couldn't come up with the words to express how I felt, so thank you for this :). Yes, I feel like it is a special part of her program and love the "music box" quality. It still feels disjointed, but I guess that is the point. Would prefer they do away with the thunder and other side effects. Seems like a cheap way to force transitions in the music instead of finding the right cuts of music that will flow together.

After watching Alina's SP a few times, I started feeling more comfortable with the cuts and I actually like it the way it is. Of course they will polish the program. Alina and Daniil read the comments on social media so if they decide that something could be done better than it is right now, they will do it.
And even if they don't make any changes, I am sure that Alina's fans will grow to love POTO and Alina's haters will hate it even if she does the most unique, dramatic, well-choreographed, memorable, technically demanding, artistically superb SP in the history of SPs. :D

At least we could all agree on one thing - nobody can say now that the first half of Alina's program is boring - everytime I started watching it, I had to be fully concentrated and even though I knew what is going to happen next, I found myself surprised because of the rapid changes of pace and feeling.

Agreed- I have watched her program a dozen times by now and it is growing on me. It was the same way with Black Swan, except this time I think she really is more refined and has better posture, etc. My absolute favorite parts of the program are her charlotte spiral into 2A and the 3F at the climax (Music of the night). The music box moment and the Ina Bauer are very nice touches as well. One thing I have to give her team credit for is they know how to choreograph her jumps to the music so they have that extra WOW factor.

I agree, the 3F is my favourite moment so far. It's just so explosive and satisfying... I also like how the track goes quiet when she is supposed to do the 3Lz-3Lo. Some tension here.

I wonder if Team TCC keeps an eye on The Ice.

Love how mature Alina looks and her womanly styling without the tutu, but c'mon, the program so far is bad. Let's be honest. I'll give it a chance to improve. But the "emotion" of it gives me major Evgenia vibes as well.

At this point (I hope I'm singing a different song once the season rolls around) I feel like the program is too chopped up for her to ever develop emotion because the music changes every 30 seconds between soft and lyrical to dramatic.
