Nastya too!!

(I wonder if they were giving out new kit)

I wanted to write it at the crazy prediction thread once, but I forgot it. I would have liked it if they did an EX number to Three Musketeers:

Alexandra -> Athos
Alena -> Aramis
Anastasia -> Porthos
Anna -> D'Artagnan

Anastasia left the group but still, they can do it :biggrin:

Should a good program really require a dozen re-watches to like/tolerate it? I guess I'll have to like it cause there's no reason to change something that's going to get high marks no matter what so long as she goes relatively clean but after 2 watches I still cannot fathom why a short program needs to cover so many different songs/pieces of music and utilize sound effects to emphasize how jarring some of these transitions are. It doesn't even tell a very good story imho. Her team should be doing better, I'm in no way insulting Alina herself she looks good, more mature, and she's trying alright.

ETA: I definitely had to watch Mirai's Great Gatsby program a lot to like it but eventually it was her happiness when she skated it well at Nationals and Worlds that won me over, not the choreography/music cuts themselves.

I think it's case by case. I can understand the comparison between Alina's POTO to Mirai's Great Gatsby, but I think Alina's team has done a much better job highlighting the music with jumps and other special moves (Ina Baur for ex). I could never get into Mirai's program at all though I think her costume was beautiful and overall I love Mirai. I think the good thing about Alina's program is it draws the viewer's attention in immediately, and holds it until the end, even though I understand why some might label the program as "schizophrenic."

The main thing I am worried about is how it has no room for error, like others have pointed out. It requires she be foot perfect to make all the moments work, and that might be difficult in a season when she is growing. I have not seen her perform in many shows, but I have seen at least two versions of The Ice, and she was wobbly on the 3Lutz-toe (missed the toe completely in one) in both versions, and the 2axel in one was underrotated with 2 foot landing. Maybe I am overreacting because these are only shows. I do think Alina has way better jumps than Lipnitskaya and Medvedeva, but jumps may still be more of a challenge this season just because of her growth. I am hoping she and her team can overcome these issues without resorting to severe dieting, etc. to put her health at risk.

Btw, here is the entire show and at 40:59, you can see another version of Alina's POTO.

So, I‘ve finally managed watched Alina‘s SP. :biggrin:

I‘m still a bit torn about it to be honest because I‘m not sure whether I like it or not. There are some beautiful moments in it that leave me smiling like: ”Yes, that‘s our Alina!“ and others that make me want to smack my head on the table like ”What are you doing, Daniil?“

I think we all should probably remember that this is the first time we‘ve seen this program and the season is long. Chances are that by the time worlds arrive we have a much more refined version of POTO just like it was with Black Swan at the Olympics.

Let‘s start with something positive about the program. :) I definitely like Alina‘s spins. Like others have pointed out she has this ballerina box feeling to her even when she‘s not wearing a tutu. The moment when the spin matches the music perfectly is simply magical. Unfortunately, it changes way too fast afterwards. That‘s what I always criticized the most about any of Team Eteri girls‘ programs. It‘s not their fault obviously because we‘ve seen Alina can hold her moves longer but she simply isn‘t allowed to do it because the choreo is so hectic. Just like the music cuts. There are a few things I enjoyed, like the sound of shattering glass because it‘s unusual and adds a nice dramatic vibe to it. But in general I can say that I‘m not too fond of the music cuts. They seem frenetic to me and because there‘s so many different songs in it the viewer can‘t properly adjust and the skater, Alina, can‘t actually get into the performance and portray a character. It‘s all too fast and while I do like that they tried to be unusual... well, I just feel that maybe less is more. Don‘t get it wrongly, unusual is good, creativity is good but not at the expense of quality. I can say that I would have enjoyed this program more had it been a long program just for the simple fact of having one music last longer than about 30 seconds and then rapidly changing again.

What I do like is that every moment matches the music. If executed perfectly, that’s giving quite the “wow!“ effect just like with DQ when every jump was on the beat of the music. But I can’t deny that I‘m also quite a bit worrie because if she makes mistake here there‘s little to no way she can make it up later without constantly trying to play catch up to the music. It feels very risky in a way. Of course Alina usually lands her jumps but we can‘t forget that she‘s growing and will probably feel a least a bit off its effect. But I do appreciate that they put the combo in the first half. She‘ll do it on fresh legs and the quality of the jumps will be better and thus letting her get more GOEs.

Another few moments I loved: This.Triple.Flip. It‘s gorgeous. Matching the music perfectly (again!), good height and flow and landing - just wow! Also her Ina Bauer. If she just held it a tiny bit longer, it would be perfect. But she‘s made some improvements already so I‘ll be happy with that for the moment. I also like the transition into the double axel.

In conclusion, I feel like I just want to tell Daniil to keep calm while making a program. While this hectic choreography matched Black Swan perfectly it feels a bit disjointed here. Let Alina have some time to interpret her character properly, changing the music every 30 seconds certainly won’t help her with it. Let her and the audiene time to breath at least a bit. There‘s a difference between creating suspense and interest and making someone feel stressed out. Hectic choreography like this makes me feel this way especially if there‘s also so much going on with the music. I‘m again going to point to Black Swan again. Very hectic choreography but it wasn‘t distracting but rather pulling the spectator in because there weren‘t too many distracting music cuts to focus on. I feel like both might be a tad over the top. Nonetheless I feel that this program has potential. And a whole lot of it. It will only become better and better through the season as Alina improves, too. I‘m quite sure of that. :)

(And this is just how I feel about the program, obviously, there might be others who have a whole different opinion. But again, that‘s the thing with art... we all experience it differently :) )

Disagree on the Bauer, she barely holds it once she starts to flex her back into a curve it looks like she's aborting the move early because she's afraid she'll lose her balance; to me they either need to let her hold it a few seconds longer once she gets her back into the curve, or not have her curve her back for .2 seconds.

The arrangement of Zagitovas SP is schizophrenic. So discordant and messy.

It's one of the worser SPs I've seen in a while. Beats even Radianovas godawful Titanic. You could find someone on Soundcloud who could do a better cut.

Disagree, besides the weird sounds, the program is not that bad.

But i've to say Daniil so far made better programs for Anna Shcherbakova and Alena Kostornaya than their Olympic Champion Alina Zagitova.

Again I've just amazed by Anna's rotation speed - she jumps 3Lz so fast that it looks like 2Lz :biggrin: Here you can see it in slo-mo if you set it in youtube video settings https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=soh-dTJsor8

More pics of the junior triple threat from today! good luck for the test skates! :hap10: https://twitter.com/Teamkostornaya/status/1026108611481747456

I can't help but feel this hunch.. there will be something worldchanging this season.. Eteri team preparing some huge surprise with this trio :devil: Just look at that poster with "Russia in our heart" slogan and picture symbolizing russian sport and military power - it's definitely a hint! :scard8: Maybe.. maybe.. maybe each of them learnt couple of more quads and 3As than they let us know about? :eekn: Lack of jumps progress/training videos from this group since the spring (where they got quite astounding results already) is.. suspicious :hpull::hap93:

I've heard that Kostornaya's programs were made by Tutberidze, at least partially. Maybe it was the case with Anna's programs too. Daniil is quite young choreographer and Eteri is very authoritarian - so I wouldn't be surprised about it.

Eteri choreographer Serafima’s “My Tender Beast” Program back in 2014-15. I love the music and choreography :)

They make all programs and choreo together. They work as the team.

I think it looks like she intended for it to be a lutz but it turned into a flip since she struggles with the lutz edge

I agree. She usually does that exaggerated power push right before a 3 turn into her flip jumps. In the SBS with Anna she is doing her Lutz entrance. The edge matters but the entrance and mechanics of a Lutz involves far more than just the edge.

At the beginning of the video she sort of makes the “bow and arrow” motion to Anna. Lots of coaches teach that as a way to create counter rotation into the jump. You would’t do that into a flip.

I’ve never been a fan of that loop entrance into the Lutz TBH. They worked on Yulia’s Lutz and made tremendous progress using a much stronger entrance where she basically came in on an inside to outside power pull. It looks like an “S” turn entrance. This is a much more typical entrance.

Looks like two 3Lz to me. I mean, oviously I can‘t talk about Evgenia‘s edge from this angle of the video but her entry didn‘t look like what she usually does with her flip. I must say that Anna‘s lutz both impresses and worries me. She‘s rotating so fast it almost looks like a 2Lz. Even Evgenia whose worse jump is the 3Lz gets a lot more height on this one. (I‘m talking about her height, not her edge. I‘m like probably every skating fan in this world very much aware of the fact that she flutzes. Just for the protocols :biggrin: ) And this leaves me worried for when Anna grows. Of course, her mom is also quite tiny I believe so she might not be affected that much by puberty but I‘m fearing that an ever so slight grow spurt could lead to frequent UR. I wish she‘d try to gain a bit more muscles to jump just a bit higher.

Oh and as I‘m just catching up with all the news: Good luck to Kurakova! I have never seen her skate but I wish her all the best. As far as I’m aware Poland doesn‘t have any notable elite skaters so if she is talented and now gets the chance to go to Worlds, Euros and Olympics... good for her! I just hope her training doesn‘t stagnate after deciding to represent a relatively smaller fed like it happened before. But it will interesting to see how this is going to work out. I‘m still hoping for Sima to represent France, though. :(

As much as I adore Anna...

They both flutz so it's fitting they'd do SBS 'lutz' :laugh: sorry, couldn't help myself :p

I don‘t see Anna as a flutzer. Her edge is slight outside most of the time, sometimes flat. It’s not a Yuna-esque deep outside edge but it’s tolerable. I wouldn‘t say it‘s blatantly inside. Of course that could change when she grows or jumps 4Lz but for now I wouldn‘t say she has a flutz. :shrug:

Just posting a quick good luck for all the girls at test skates today!! I hope they all have a good/clean skate!
