2018-19 Russian Ladies' figure skating

Shortly after the olympics Alina said their new programs were already set. I’m thinking that Alena and Alina had programs designed to be entirely backloaded. But now that doesn’t make sense and instead of redoing the programs they just chopped them up and moved the pieces. Come on Daniil, get it together!

I sure hope Alena isn't being short-changed. Trusova is certainly a star, and Shcherbakova is kind of growing on me, but quads do not an artist make. Kostornaya has something that can't be taught and I'd hate to think her talents aren't being allowed to shine.

oh god all the comments about Alena's program scare me! a squeal/weird noise in the music? whyyyy? i'm excited and worried at the same time!
Very pleased to hear so many nice comments about Anna's performance tho :agree:

I’m hoping and praying that the squeal was simply an audio glitch, or if not...Daniil, please, fix Alena’s music before JGP!

she already has multiple quads, if she pulls a 3A too then how are the other girls supposed to breathe? :dumb:

I’m sure she’ll be nice about it. After she crushes them on the ice she’ll let them play with her puppy to make them feel better.

There was some anon on certain figure-skating russian board who hinted that he is making videos of test skates being in Novogorsk. So, there is some hope we can new programs (3A and quads!) sooner than we anticipated :party2: Well, it's just a possibility now - who knows whether it will be true or not.. :rolleye:

Is it Gniloe FK?

There is some Olga E in the federation, who recorded and posted on youtube 37 interviews with Russian skaters before and after the open skates last season. Now it seems to be going to be another 37 this autumn, so personally, I subscribed to her.

The interview with Anna Shcherbakova:

Q: Judging from the last competitions in the last season and from the fact that you took part in the show in Japan, all the troubles with health are in the past, right?
A: Yes, the consequences of the injury are over, nothing hurts anymore, so now I train and compete at full strength.
Q: Could you tell what happened then?
A: Last summer in Novogorsk, I fell on a combination and broke my leg. Then there was a period of recovery, It was harder to train and to perform jumps.
Q: Who helped and supported you during the recovery?
A: All my family and the coaches. Daniil Markovich [Gleikhengauz] came to me sometimes, he supported me a lot. Also, people from the federation called me, it was very nice.
Q: Can you tell something about the new programs - who made them, when you started practicing them?
A: I have 2 new programs, they were choreographed by Daniil Markovich and Eteri Georgievna. They started making the free program almost at the beginning of the camp, that is, in mid-June. The short program was made after the show in Japan.
Q: Did you like the show?
A: Very much! It was an absolutely new emotions for me, and it was my first time in Japan. I liked the atmosphere and the people very much, everything was so nice, it was a pleasure to skate, and everyone supported me.
Q: What was most memorable there, maybe meeting some athletes, or some events, or presents? The fans give a lot of presents, hand-made toys.
A: Yes, it was a great fun to look through the presents, there were a lot of warm wishes and letters, I read them all, all those kind words. There also was a napkin bag - a teddy bear, it's now my new talisman. I also met a lot of famous skaters, whom I long wanted to meet personally.
Q: Did they look down on you?
A: No, everyone was so open and nice, it even surprised me that they were the first to start talking to me, asking how I am doing and what's new. There was a friendly atmosphere.
Q: I think it was nice to skate with such support.
A: Yes, the crowd was very supportive, and the skaters too, and it felt not like on a competition when I need to prove something, instead, it was very calm.
Q: Tell me how you chose, or were chosen, to be a figure skater.
A: My elder sister started skating first, so my parents decided I should skate with her.
Q: So you skated, and?..
A: I started succeeding in it, I liked it very much, I enjoyed every practice; then I became better at jumping, which motivated me to train even more.
Q: Where you started skating?
A: From day one I skated at the very same rink, Khrustalny, with coaches Oksana Mikhailovna Bulycheva and Yulia Alexandrovna Krasilskaya.
Q: What is figure skating for you now - your job, a hobby?
A: It's my way of life, something I do all the time, something without which I cannot imagine my life. Every day of my life is affected by it so much, so that I just can't imagine myself without it.
Q: So I assume, even in the hardest times you don't even think of leaving or abandoning it.
A: No, I never thought about it, even after the injury; moreover, everyone supported me, so I never felt that I don't need it or that I don't belong there, never.
Q: Do you have a motto, maybe some phrase, that cheers you up and helps you to persevere when it's hard for you?
A: No special phrase, I just love my job, so I do it.

P.S. Now that Anna actually started talking, I can see how beautiful her speech is.

I like Alina's SP. I much prefer that to a long 'Phaaaaantom of the Opera'.

Just wish she held that Ina Bauer longer.

What a sweet, articulate girl... please stay healthy Anya!
Me thinking about her injuries :sad4: :sad4:

They have forfeited their chance to send Gubanova to the Rostelecom Cup. And there is no reason for her to go to the senior test skates otherwise.

Can we sneak her in as the host pick for Finland GP and then use her to replace anyone who pulls out of Rostelecom Cup ;)

I wonder what’s going on? I thought the off-season drama was behind us :palmf:

The problem is she is already on the list for JGP. You can only do one or the other, and the decision has to made before JGP entries are announced, it its too late to change your mind afterwards.

Is it Gniloe FK?
No, it's some anonymous image board similar to 4chan but in Russian. I don't want to give link to it here due to very specific mindset and sense of humour one have to possess to being able to tolerate it since it's full of extreme rudeness and trolling towards majority of skaters and their fans.

They can pull Gubanova out of JGP any time and make her eligible for the host spot. All it means is that she wasn't on the GP "initial selection" list. She still can get host spot. Russia's roster for jgp always changes after test skate.
