2018-19 Russian Ladies' figure skating

It is expected that Trusova and Kostornaya will win their events, so they will then get the second spot, same as Scherbakova. Then the Russian federation will have to compare the skaters who didn’t win. I am guessing they will be comparing the placement and score of Tarusina with the placements and scores of Kanysheva who is due to skate next week, Sinitsina who is doing the third event (and will be worse than Trusova) and Tarakanova, who is currently in the 4th event with Scherbakova. I love Tarusina and hope she will get her second event, but realistically, if Kanysheva, Sinitsina and Tarakanova all finish second, it will be the scores who will decide who out of Kanysheva, Sinitsina, Tarakanova and Tarusina will get a second spot. It is very unlikely that they all will get it. And it is completely irrelevant how Panenkova skated last year. They will compare it against skaters from this year.

Why is it unlikely that they all get a second event? There's room for 7 skaters to get 2 events, and realistically, the only skater I can see them pushing aside one of these girls for is Gubanova. Even so, that means that just one of them won't get a second spot, or two if Gubanova wins her event (which she won't if she faces an Eteri girl, and half of these girls are Eteri's anyway)

i think Kanysheva could beat Kostornaya in FS, but not in SP where Kostornaya had scored 70+ twice, looking at Scherbakova score, she definitely will go 70+ if clean. In FS though Kostornaya might messed up if she fail that 3. But looking from Scherbakova who play safe without 4Lz i assume Kostornaya will too, since Scherbakova has attempted the 4Lz in test skate while Kostornaya didnt even attempt the 3A, so it is small chance for Kanysheva to beat Kostornaya.

Kostornya and Kanysheva are not even on the same page.
They are at different levels.

Artistically yes, Kostornaya has better skating skills, more speed, better lines, more expression, but her FS this season is a bit like Radionova's Titanic, i don't know how i feel about the voiceovers and the cuts. I like Kanysheva's FS more (not a masterpiece but it seems better constructed)

Technically, Kostornaya has more height and distance on her jumps, also lots of transitions in and out of the elements, though Kanysheva seems to have a better outside edge on the lutz. (Kostornaya's Lutz is often a !, sometimes a flutz)

Kanysheva's technique reminds me of Sotskova's jumps but without the UR.

The only fault I find in Anna's skating is the lead-in to her jumps. Not the jumps themselves, which are pretty tight, if not as electric as Sasha's. But when she's getting ready to jump, she does this inelegant wind-up that seems so awkward and labored, especially relative to the gracefulness of the rest of her skating.

Does anyone know what I'm talking about? It may be that because she doesn't have the athleticism and power of Sasha, she needs to do this in order to generate that extra bit of energy. I'd like to see her overcome it, though.

That aside, what a special skater and what a special season we have ahead of us. The Russian Championship in December is going to be historic. I hope there will be a way to watch it here in the States.

I know what you mean. I think Anna has fantastic musicality but sometimes she does not have completely precise control of her limbs like, say, Kostornaya. She's also extremely thin which draws more attention to any strange movements of her limbs. I'm hoping she & her team can fix this as she gains more power as she grows up.

Russian Nationals is always one of the highlights of the season, at least in the ladies' discipline :) Russian streams are usually quite easy to find online. And I normally always have time to watch it because it takes place over the Christmas holidays :)

Because they have still plenty of girls who didn’t have even one event and they will want to give them at least one. E.g. Gubanova, as soon as he legs heal, or Vasilieva... You saw it last year, there was enough spot for all first places, but there wasn’t enough spots for second place getting another event. If Tarusina, Tarakanova, Kanysheva and Sinitsina all get second spot, there would be no other spots available. Trusova, Kostornaya and Scherbakova will have two spots). Is it likely that Gubanova will not get any spot?

Last year there were still girls who didn't get spots, such as Vasilieva, and they didn't seem too upset by it. There will always be too many girls for spots, so it's better to maximize spots in the final than maximize girls who get spots. Otherwise they could just give 14 girls one spot each if they didn't care about making the final. They certainly have enough girls that deserve a JGP for that to work

Well, last year the federation was not that upset about not giving second spot to second places. If they wanted, they could have prioritise Guliakova’s second spot. Look, all I am saying is that I don’t believe that Gubanova will be without at least one spot, as long as her legs are healed. So that means that at least one of those four girls I named will not get second spot.

You're probably right :(
It's just... I feel awful for Gubanova having boot problems but it doesn't change the fact that she did and it affected her training, and so I don't care how much influence her coach has, there's no reason to take away the spots of someone else who has been training and competing while Gubanova has been healing just so she can skate junior events over junior skaters who literally have no other option. And skating two JGP events and making the final could be Tarusina's only way to make senior nationals, for example, because there's barely any Russian Cup spots this year, and there's no way she could move up without even having skated as a senior at nationals the year before.
