2018-19 Russian Ladies' figure skating

Am I the only one who thinks that Alina was just having fun when she landed that crazy combo? She finished it with a smile that looked like: “Ya that was fun!“ to me. But maybe I‘m just too naive and don‘t understand the hidden messages 15-year old athletes send to their rivals in order to mess their mind up for competition. :laugh2:

@andromache: Same but I just.. don‘t bother anymore. Too busy writing my “Evil-Orser“ fanfiction. :dev3:

I always thought the landing crazy combos during practice is to hype up the public watching or to kinda brag while your competitors might be struggling right next to you!

Yeah, that probably, too. But to be honest, I can‘t see Sasha landing those quads in the warm-up of JGP for the spectators. There are so few of them there, like, where are they all? Don‘t you know it‘s Sasha Trusova, reigning quad-queen who‘s having her season‘s debut right before your nose? No, you probably don‘t. Alright... :(

Which is exactly what it is. To psych out the competition next to you. Just like giving an interview that doesn’t say anything mean about the competition but was delivered to a person you know the competition hates and will rattle said competition.

Looks like any little mistake Evgenia makes at test skates, or throughout this season, will bring plenty of Eteri fans out of the woodwork to bash Evgenia and Brian as inferior to Alina and Eteri.

I don't know why so people have to have an "us versus them" mentality. Nationalism creates unnecessary hostility.

Brian just said that Zhenya has improved also having named her previous skating "juniorish", the skating which made her unbeatable for 2 years among senior skaters. For me it sounded quite condescending. That's why there is so much attention to what has in fact improved. In a way it is "us vs. them" where "us" is Eteri's school.

Okay, I get that. It makes sense. At least the part about the jump combos. I’m not so sure about the interview-thing, though. But anyway, as we see these posts kind of provoke certain people so I guess it‘d be better if we moved onto safe terrain and talked about something else.

But he didn’t outright bad mouth anyone. If he had that would be wrong. But he spoke about himself and his process. The insults were implied and read between the lines. He didn’t outright say anything negative or reproachable about another coach. But he said it to a certain person and in a way that was meant to rattle his competition. Eteri having Alina show off before a competition is similar in that it’s meant to get insides people’s head. It had no practical value, it’s meant to distract and undermine the confidence of the competition. Both of these example are not unsportsmanlike. People look for an edge however they can as long as it’s not outright or overtly unsportsmanlike.

Or she was just jumping that combo because she wanted to. It gives you confidence knowing you have to do much less in competition than what you're capable of. Where do these conspiracy theories keep coming from? Leave Alina out of anything related to Orser - she has no connection to him

If only it was close to me. There's rarely any competition here in France anymore. I remember when we used to host world champs. Now i'd have to sell my soul and belongings if i wanted to travel and watch a competition lol At least Zhenya and other favorites are coming to me this november:love:.

Same. Yeah, what should I say, I‘m in Austria. We have the JGP which I‘m really grateful for but otherwise.. not much. WAIT! We have the Euros in Graz in 2020. I‘ve already started to try and talk my mum into us going there. But you have a senior GP event in France, so that‘s something, too. And I remember some time ago (two years or so, I think. ) you had the GPF, too! And you‘re getting to see Zhenya! I‘m so excited for you yet kinda jealous (yeah, no need denying that  ) I hope you get to take a photo with her or get her autograph! And hoping she does well when you see her live of course! Do you already have tickets? :luv17:

I'll throw her some EXO merch on the ice and scream really loudly for her :yes2:
When the GPF was in France i was studying overseas :sad21: I was so pissed :gaah: i'll try to take nice pictures or record the practice if i can. Yes i got my tickets already :agree:

Sure, let me know where to move that discussion! I know I provoke people, not intentionally, just I do love discussing the behind the scenes mental games and politicking that I imagine takes place.

You guys at least have competitions in your continent :bang:

So, I was re-watching Gubanova. The SP does seem less worse the more I watch it, which I guess is something. Am I the only one who feels she should work on her -Loop combination? For me, it seems most of her problems with jumps are related to tacking a -3T or -2T to the end of a combo. I have the impression that she takes too long to get her free leg to pick in the ice, thus losing speed.

Eh, I don't know. My knowledge is really limited to waltz jumps, the rest is all assumptions. I'm just not ready to give up on Gubanova, yet.

Look i think Evgenia made a smart move, we all knew what was going to happen with Eteri: perhaps another good season and then the decline because Eteri starts to care less about you (you're no longer the top skater and they don't want to spend time reworking every single element), at least with Brian there is the benefit of the doubt.

But if Evgenia makes mistakes all season i'd start to wonder whether the change really paid off or not. It happened with Yulia too, cause at TEB she was still with Eteri and she looked more secure than her previous outings, and people wondered if moving to Sochi was worth it or not.

I saw plenty of people remark that Yulia's TEB might've been because everything was already set for her to leave and that weight was off her shoulders. *I actually looked it up and TEB short programs (there were no FPs) were on the 13th and on the 15th it was announced she was leaving Eteri.

Can't wait to see Med's Orange Colored Sky come Sunday, choreographed by David Wilson. I can see her showcasing some great personality and character with it. A breath of fresh air vs. POTO and Carmen mashups. Or is it just free program only for test skates?

I think Dudakov went with Yulia too and not Eteri.

I'm afraid it's only the free that is open to the public this year. (Unless someone sneaks in there - hint: please, someone sneak in there!;)) I think it's best to just prepare for disappointment - that is, not getting to see the short programs - that way, if some video turns up, one will be pleasantly surprised.:)

It's not shade if it's true ahah Eteri and co do pick the programs, so much so that Zhenya skated to a program she didn't like (9/11 program) and even admitted that. There's nothing wrong with it when the skaters are very young, but since Zhenya is now an adult I understand why she would want more independence as opposed to her junior peers, or even Alina who is still very very young.

I wonder if Eteri started refusing skater's opinions on music after Lipnitskaia because Eteri stated in 2014 about how no one wanted Lipnitskaia to do Schindler's list but Yulia was persistent and in the proceeding years she had input into her music.
