Mikhail Kolyada

Guess I’m in the minority, but the short is fire! Love it. Exquisite SS and spins. Carmen is generally whatever to me but his attack in the first half was quite good. I’m so excited for this season. I have GPF tickets and fingers crossed Mika will be there!

I love the SP as well which rekindles my love for Mika!! This is very charming and new to Mika and I quite find some amusement in the shiny silver belt. I love he leaves something quirky a bit to the belt. :) Honestly I didn't like last season's programs with which he looked so awkward and somewhat cold as if he had borrowed someone else's unfitting clothing, but not this one. The new lp choreography is hm....just acceptable for me, not in a wow-quality. However that will do as long as he lands his jumps.

I was skeptical about Muse for the sp, since I’ve not liked other Muse programs, but I love this one! Especially after watching again on my desktop w better speakers than my iPad, when I could barely hear the music on first viewing lol. I was also relieved that his Carmen program appeals to me too, including his costume (the bright shade of red contrasted with the white collar looks great on him, IMO, and really stands out without being too much). It’s great that the short and free are such different styles, showing versatility, but they both suit him, and most importantly both seem to resonate with him musically.

Here is a better view of the costume it does have some interesting details:

Re the LP I wish it was choreographed by Lambiel in its entirety not just the stsq like the SP which feels more as a whole program if you know what I mean. But as you said if he land his jumps it will work

Mika's 3A was given 2nd the highest mean GOE in the last season. No wonder :drama: When he hits his axel it has everything I can wish for when it comes to 3A.

Thanks for the link!
Interestingly the recent poll here on GS also put Mika second after Yuzuru (albeit more distant second!) meaning that judges and fans are in agreement here.
I think I personally like Mika's more because Yuzuru rotates faster which is great of course but Mika's jump has more oomph for me

Erokhov is such a wild card, especially since he has the same CS and GP assignments as Misha. It will be interesting to see how rapidly his star rises, particularly in relation to Kolyada.

Erokhov was replaced by Samarin for Ondrei Nepela. Wasn't he injured at test skates?
So it will be Mika, Samarin & Voronov at Nepela which will give us some indication as regard to competition inside Russian team

I don't see Mika losing his No 1 status barring health problems or major meltdown but it is FS anything possible - it is his to lose anyway
I am slightly worried about their new strategy because as prudent as it sounds it may backfire. If Mika's problems are entirely mental (which I believe ) downgrading may result in him doing the same number of mistakes per a LP and finishing well off the podium because he won't have the cushion of BV as he did last season. Even looking at the last season they started with 4T, 4lz & 4sal - a LP with 2 falls and a pop or two on average, they took 4 sal - same mistakes, at test skates even with one 4T he still popped two jumps... is it a loss of concentration or some other reason I don't know... from the interviews it is clear he wants to skate a clean LP pretty badly he is mindful of the fact his last clean skate was at Boston and he needs it to restore his confidence. Will a new approach help we shall see, at least they are going to try different things not just keep doing the same hoping the problem will get fixed somehow in the course of the season - so fingers crossed

Edit: I am surprised we didn't hear any comments from TAT after test skates such as 'Kolyada skated a girl's program' ;)
She didn't mince her words for poor Elena and Alina got her share as well
I wonder if she liked his new programs

If she didn’t like them, I’m sure we would have heard something. She was watching his short program like a hawk 😂

I saw a tweet that Mikhail said he had a nigthmare in Pyeongchang?
What was this about? Is it because of the intial Russian athletes ban?

Hi all!
Just wanted to share my impressions of test skates.
Still I am not big Carmen fan (too much of this music in figure skating for me😀) I was positively surprised by Mika's skating this Sunday.
My main concern was his falls, but hopefully he managed. I suppose such music would not accept falls and rude mistakes.
There were round 6000 people visiting test skates, and it seemed even more crowded then Rostelecom cup (wasn't able to buy coffee with all these queus:)). That's why I was so worried about Mika's jumps, did not want everyone to blame him again.
It appeared he was quite nervous but somehow tried to control himself. I absolutely loved his posture and beautiful hands and back. Though I believe if he feels more confident with layout he would bring much more fire in his performance, that was missing a bit, but I undestand it's only a beginning of the season. But what I really want to see is that he radiates with pleasure while skating.
The red colour of his jacket is a little bit too bright and red for him (I definitely like more SP costume that fits Mika perfectly😍) but I am happy there are no crystals, no gold and velvet in FS costume, so he looks very masculine. So I'm waiting to see both programms within the season and really hope he manages his jumps and reaches for his star finally😊

I hope it's ok to post this link here to Mikhail talking about his "nightmare" in Pyeongchang

https://fs-gossips.com/mikhail-koly...-the-shock-that-i-experienced-in-pyeongchang/

Actually it's translation of the interview after the test skates which we discussed earlier:

Thanks for the link. It has to be said that talking about his unfortunate SP in the team event was only a small part of this nterview (and not even the most interesting part!) but journalists just can't help themselves :drama:

Many thanks for sharing your impressions. How lucky you are that you could see it live! Are you going to Rostelecom as well?
Not fan of Carmen music either but warming up to the program - Mika can sell me anything ;)

Planning to go, all-event ticket already bought, and I hope nothing will stop me🤩 though not the first row like at test skates, still I'm looking forward to it:)
And yes, Mika can sell everything to me also😃

Right now not all his problems are entirely mental as his form clearly leaves much to be desired (but then the new FS format seems to be quite taxing for all men). I would like to see his form improve and then judge.

I like Carmen but you need to have a certain presence on the ice to skate to it (which Misha evidently has). And posture is all-important, of course. Actually I was doubtful Carmen could work for Misha but I am pleasantly surprised so far.

Misha had all chances to win Worlds? What? Did Vaits forget about a certain Nathan Chen? Silver, yes, that was within easy reach.

It's a good thing that Misha could finally open up to such an extent about the Olympic and post-Olympic experiences. At the very least it means he's processed it, likely not without professional help (and it was darker and more far-reaching than anything he'd admitted to before). Bouncing back by Worlds was probably more about pushing things deeper into the recesses of his mind than truly dealing with the experience. I remember how uncharacteristically muted he was in that video interview at the end of the season, he felt emotionally drained or frozen. I hope he can finally move past it.

From his recent interviews it seems his summer went really well, there is an air of confidence about him I haven't felt before. Even the fact that they make some unpopular decisions re layout (I am sure RusFed is not particularly overjoyed with him dropping 4lz (for now)), kinda shows that Mika/his team are finally in charge of the situation - I like that. So yes I think he's moved past the team event (fingers crossed)

I too like what I saw so far (still not liking Carmen as a music choice but it is just me) nothing is over the top. Glad they didn't go for a full scale toreador like Javi for instance (not that I don't like Javi's :luv17:):

I have to say my (and not only my) impression on seeing Misha this season was "he's finally graduated and we have a top skater on our hands". The quality of skating is truly up there now and the programs measure up. If he gets the jumps together at least when it matters, sky is the limit at this point, I don't think judges will hold him back.

Same here - he has arrived! The judges I believe had their say at Worlds in Milan, his SP score was on Patrick's level (not PCS yet obviously but combined GOE + PCS). All he needs is to handle his nerves better. Even with only two 4Ts his scores could be good provided he doesn't pop 3As and other jumps.
I'd say we'll have a better idea this weekend, even on Thursday (oh I can't wait to see his SP with a decent audio), Nepela should be a low pressure event for Mika and frankly if he doesn't defend his Trophy (or should I say his title?) successfully I will get angry - its just soo within his reach but ice is slippery.
BTW Alexei Bychenko is not on the list anymore
