Mikhail Kolyada

So the schedule is up, the draw for SP will be tonight and SP itself starting tomorrow at 4pm local time

I like the idea of him skating 2nd overall. I don't think his PCS will take that much of a hit, and hopefully he'll have less time to get nervous

Even with better sound quality I still do not like the SP music. I suppose it puts me in the same boat as those not liking Carmen. (Well, at least it's the actual music of his SP unlike that of some people... Poor Stasya). Misha himself did well, although there is room for improvement with the program as well as the axel. And the scoring - considering it's Nepela, the judges are not planning to hold him back this season.

I didn't like the music either. He could have been skating to anything out there. I think they are still trying to find his creative "thing". I am just not sure this is it.

I get accustomed with the music. Not what i love to hear, but it suits him, so i start to like the Sp more- probably i will love it to bits till the end of the season :laugh2:. But he needs to improve to play with the big-boys. 10 points less than Shoma is a lot ... At least is was clean and he looks very confident which is good for the beginning of the season.

8 points, actually, 104.15 vs 96.82. Misha needs to add more quads to play with the big boys, simply improving won't help. And he knows it. But right now his goal obviously isn't to best Shoma in absentia.

Perhaps it will work better for him this season first to get the program flowing and after that to add the difficulty. Last season was so harsh with so much new difficulty from the beginning. And if not i will still enjoy his skating :luv17: .

Right now I think he wants to win this event while skating as cleanly as possible and to see how he is scored while doing that. But we shall see soon.

The idea of the music did not come from Misha, I think he might need more time to get it. He has said in the past that he needs to get a true feel for the music/program for it to work for him and that it does not happen instantaneously.

And in the "I know this is silly but..." department, I so hope by the GP Misha finds his way to a hairdresser. Enough with the schoolboy haircut already, he is an attractive young man but that fringe does him no favours whatsoever.

Ah, i love the fringe *giggle*. I hope he doesn't get a very short cut, i don't think it would suit him. I wonder actually how he would look with longer hair .... *very important questions*

Especially if he wants to make this a "romantic" program, like Lambiel described it

Though tbh I don't think he could ever not look like a schoolboy, sorry Misha

I liked his SP - objectively speaking he competed well enough for this early in the season. Hopefully on Saturday he can also land his stuff.

His scores weren't too outrageous, but not too far from the 100s. He botched a bit the axel landing, but the lutz was also a bit wonky. And his step sequence seems a bit sloppy, but he has time to improve.

What I liked is that his axis stayed forward which is good for his quads.

I believe he will be a great opponent of Javi on ECH 2019. I know we didn't see Javi's skating but I think so

I hope he can keep himself together in the FS today. He should be able to win this competition and I'm keeping my fingers crossed for him.

If to compare to the same time a year ago, he is so much more into his SP. In fact I felt he was very much into his music yesterday. Some posters in the comp thread commented that he could have skated to any music with those moves which I was surprised to read - no accounting for tastes I suppose. I felt he skated with lots of fire and passion surprising in practically the first competitive showing of the program. Fingers crossed - I do feel it is going to be a great program. I still don't get Muse attraction (but confess my total ignorance in matters of any pop music) but it suits him. A question (Muse fans please do not feel offended): is it a different song from what D/R skated to in the winning season? it sounds so much like it... and tbh to what Kovtun skated to a few seasons back... :palmf:

I practically could repeat all I said above in relation to his step sequence. Do you remember how he started the last season - the steps Stephane choreo-d evidently were difficult for him and only by the end of the season he started to flow through the stsq. Now he is flying already.

If he got his usual GOEs for the axel it would have been very close to 100
