2018-19 U.S. Ladies' figure skating

Bradie was fabulous. CONSISTENCY! She's looking fit and energetic. She's nailing the jumps (as always) and can tell she's having a great time.

I feel that she's so good at blocking out all of the pressure (absolute kuddos for this) that she doesn't emote. I miss that and I think she should and CAN do it more effectively.
It's like she's skating all alone down there and I want to be invited in!!

Excited to see her season! :cheer:

I did not like Bradie's skating last year at all and I am already amazed by her this early in the season.

I loved her SP and I think I will love her FS when some of her landings get cleaner, which I am sure they will.

I rooted for Bradie over Evgenia today. I am shocked.

I like both Evgenia and Bradie. I would have been happy if Bradie was 2nd, but was thrilled for her win. Evgenia has just started with her new coach and she will be much improved in a short time.

Bradie and Evgenia and Mae will all meet up again in the French GP, with Kostner as the other seed. That should be an exciting event!!

Both of Bradie’s new programs just exude strength, determination, and as Ted said, tenaciousness. The music suits her style and how she tends to emote (unlike last year). My only problem with R&J is that, character-wise, one generally wants to see more vulnerability from a Juliet - which isn’t Bradie at all. But the music is strong and she is strong so I guess it works?

Needs just a little more oomph to avoid those URs. Though I will say that her -3Lo looks around to my untrained eye. We will see how Alina’s combo is called or not next week.

I always feel the need to point this out when we talk about Bradie's skating and programs last year. Her programs were never intended to take her as far as they did. They were supposed to see her through the national circuit and maybe a couple of international competitions, if she was lucky. That's it. But as it turns out she was VERY lucky and those mediocre programs ended up taking her to the national champion title and then the Olympics. But they weren't supposed to. If you told them that while choreographing them they probably would have called you crazy. If they had known she would be going to the Olympics with them and becoming one to watch in the figure skating world they might have given her something better. But they didn't know and by the time they did it was too late to do anything about it so she had to work with what she had. This year she will be even more competitive because they now know what is in store for her and they've had the opportunity to prepare something great that is entertaining and better showcases her skills and disguises her flaws. As we've seen here.

Bradie took everyone's criticism and worked on it. She's improved so much and I'm one of those people that dismissed her earlier. Guilty. However it doesn't seem like she understands Prokofiev. I think she could very well be a worlds medallist this season. I'm rooting for her.

Yeah, the SP looked great for her but the LP is deeply confusing. Is she playing Juliet or a zombie? Why is she leaning and making weird arms all the time? :DD

Well I just saw her long program live and I loved it. IMO she does not look like a zombie and her arm movements aren’t weird. She’s strong and elegant, and her skating is fast and covers a ton of ice. Can she improve? Sure. But look how much she’s already done since last season. As to her character, remember that Juliet is strong enough to defy her family at a time when women didn’t- and strong enough to kill herself. And her music is strong and powerful, not soft and vulnerable. As to Sasha, why is it necessary to compare her to someone who skated 10 years ago?

Well, the performance was much better, and the program was much better. It is perhaps not possible to be that good under the current rules, and so I would like to see people just make different music choices. It shouldn't be hard for the choreographers at least to give such guidance to the skaters they work with. If it is, well, there's the reason why the choreography is so dire nowadays, I guess.

Oh look yet another Romeo and Juliet that isn't a prayer on Sasha Cohen's. I am shocked.

Well, it's not possible to beat perfection, so...why even go there lol?

But seriously, I was not sold on Bradie last year. I think she definitely deserved to be US Champion, just wasn't sold on her. This program is so much better than the soul-less robo-Cinderella abomination from last year. She is much more connected to the music, although I don't think it's quite right for her. Much more in the moment as opposed to looking like she's lost out on the ice. Of course, her consistency is amazing as usual, and the combo was awesome. I think she has the weirdest air position ever, but hey, it works. With Osmond out at the moment, I think Bradie could be the one to give the Russians a bit of real completion (I also think they will have a tough post-Olympic season).

Well... yeah. :P

I do think Bradie had very strange moments in the choreography.

I have to say that if Bradie’s loop combo is URed then Zagi’s is URed too.

It's a hard combo, and I'm sure Bradie is still getting used to it. It's too undervalued in the CoP. I haven't checked the rotation on Bradie's, but Zag's was clean quite a few times last season.

I liked Bradie’s program. The only major flaw in choreography, imo, was those horrible ugly illusion features in the final spin. Major UGH! She looks like she is trying to tap her boot with her hand, and it looks very labored. Everyone go watch her final spin and see what I mean.
