2018-19 Russian Ladies' figure skating

There are lots of seniors fighting for spots too though. Just saying. I understand the reasoning for her to go but I also see plenty of logical reasons RusFed would want to keep her back. We’ll see how she does at JWC but my gut tells me it isn’t completely unthinkable. If all three girls move up than that means one or two of them will no longer go to the big international events or Zhenya, Alina, and Masha are all done going to major international events. If Anna stays one more year she’ll at least get that major competition experience and a shot at JWC (assuming Sasha wins again). I would think that would be better than wrapping up the season after RusNats which would be completely conceivable even with a successful year.

As far as I could see there are no rules stopping Gp competitors from entering JWC as long as they are under 19 years old.

Apart from the restricted number from each contry there are three rules that skaters must adhere to.
102 says skaters arent allowed to compete in non isu sanctioned events
108 age requirement 13-19 before 1st of july
109 nationality rule. You must be russian to compete for russia

I thought they changed it starting with the 2015-16 season and that it wasn’t allowed anymore. I remember the congress proposed it but maybe I’m remembering wrong or they’ve since revoked the rule. I’m going to go search around now. I know skaters can do Junior events and then senior events but I thought the rule was that once you go to senior international events you lost your JGP and JWC eligibility. Now I’m not sure 🤔

I can’t think of anyone since Radionova who competed as a senior but then went back to whoop on the juniors.

Lots of small-fed skaters tend to do JGP, senior Bs and JWC. For example Adam Siao Him Fa did JGPs and then senior Bs last season but he still went to Junior Worlds. I am pretty sure he will do the same thing this year. Of course, if a skater is contending for or winning senior GP medals it wouldn't really be right to go back to Junior Worlds, even if they hadn't previously medaled there, but there's no regulation stopping anyone from doing it.

Interesting. Maybe they put out an ISU announcement after they passed it revoking it. Elena Radionova went to GPF and then won Junior Worlds with a record score (at the time). I remember shortly after the topic came up and I thought it passed easily within the ISU to prevent it. Speaking of which....TBT the original 4

From splatfests, empty programs and weird music cuts for example. (just my opinion, expressed a bit provocatively. Please don't jump at me and eat me alive). However I believe they can and will bounce back
How is one or two missed jumps a 'splatfest'?!!

How old is she? She has a mature presence and a solid performance, but the height of her jumps is a little worrisome, especially if she is 12 or 11, some major body change has yet to come.

Samodelkina is 11, born 18 February 2007. Her jump height doesn't worry me -- she clearly has time to rotate her triples, it's not like Akatieva's, but Akatieva is an exception. She'll gain more height as she grows. I'd be more concerned about Berestovskaya's triples.

Quick! If this thread gets five more demise comments really soon, someone can get a season pass!

Can I just throw out a $100 bill and say......

Tiny Boss is coming for your favorite skater...they’re all going down!! All of them

I’ll pay my $1, but in terms puberty I think Anna will fair better than Tiny Boss and Alena(who I think changes have already started with)

Not saying they won’t survive, just that those two already have signs of filling out that I don’t see in Anna.

Height of her jumps is worrisome? Of Samodelkina's? She's 11 and they're quite big for her age. For skaters of her age group, they're bigger than anyone except Veronika Zhilina's, out of the currently relevant skaters. Of course, it's possible that Plakhotnaya will one day be relevant but I'm not a fan. Well, some jumps of Akatieva's are bigger as well. But Samodelkina certainly is no Berestovskaya when it comes to jumps.

I still have faith that Anna Shcherbakova will overcome Trusova.

Elena Radionova was not age eligible for senior worlds that year. So she really had no choice but to compete at junior worlds again. I think it was because the age eligibility for senior gp was different than worlds back then. I think the rule was changed so that age eligibility for both gp series and worlds is the same.

After I realized Tennell was the first non-Russian to beat Zhenya, I also realized that no Russian had ever beaten Alinka Zagitova in international competition.

- Marin Honda (2016 JGP Slovenia)
- Rika Kihira (2016 JGP Slovenia)
- Kaetlyn Osmond (2018 Worlds)
- Wakaba Higuchi (2018 Worlds)
- Satoko Miyahara (2018 Worlds)
- Carolina Kostner (2018 Worlds)

Of course Zhenya beat Alina at 2017 Nats, but that was nationals, and of course Masha, Fedichkina etc beat era early on in her career, but internationally Alina has never been beat by a Russian.
