2018-19 Russian Ladies' figure skating

More than 159 points for Anna Scherbakova at the Russian cup with two 4Lz. Someone wants to challenge Trusova :), amazing.

ANNA IS AMAZING! I'm so happy for her. That should give her the confidence entering the JGPF. With those 2 4Lz and one in combo she can totally challenge Trusova. That will be an amazing battle. Now I only need 3A from Alena then I'm totally happy. What amazing girls!

So... Gubanova is doing the best out of Buyanova skaters so far? Who would have thought at the beginning of the season... Makes me a mix of angry and sad, though. I love, love, love Polina and was rooting for her to get the Russian #3 spot this season and go to Worlds. Doesn't Buyanova have any technical specialist??

It's too late for Tsurskaya to fix anything, I think.

ANNA!!!
I was hoping for a clean 4Lz. And Here you are! Just did two 4LZ. one in a combo.!
And both of them fully rotated! (the second quad lutz was definitely rotated enough). I rewatched them frame by frame.
WOW!

and honestly, shcherbakova is so much more talented than trusova
i don't know why people consider trusova the jumping prodigy while shcherbakova is like the second-tier jumper
seriously? she landed a clean 4T like half a year before we saw a clean quad from trusova
and her quad lutz is clean right from the first vid, unlike trusova who's always posting ur-ed quads to gain attention

I think all three are superstars, and any of the three could win on any given day. Apples, Oranges and Bananas. And then there are the younger ones like Kamila who are also spectacular. I choose to enjoy all of these super talents equally.

But she has lovely jumps and good technique, it's just the URs...

She doesn't particularly have good technique. She twists her body into rotation (example on her 3Lz), making it hard for her to properly use her momentum from the take-off to rotate. She closes too late, too. It's this that is showing up more and more given that she's quite tall (and despite the fact that her jumps have good enough height). It's early in the season so maybe with better conditioning she'll simply have more energy to put into rotation, but this isn't ideal, and will probably only get worse as she grows older. It seems habitual, and it might be too late to fix it.

Her jumps used to be fine, honestly. Yep, an UR here or there, but overall more solid
Her current issues seem like team buianova typical stuff.

Wish she would go to Mishin.

Oh be quiet. Nobody says Anna is a second-tier jumper. But currently they are at different levels solely because of Anna's chronic consistency issues. Which has nothing to do with the jumping but with the skating in general. You don't know what she is going to mess up - the step sequence, the combo, whatever - but 3/5 skates she messes something up. Usually something simple that at the level she is at and as good as she is she should not be messing up. And until that problem is sorted out, and hopefully it will get sorted out sooner rather than later, they are at different levels.

I can’t belive I missed Nastya do the Orange Justice Dance in the KnC live :laugh2:

All sorts of bonus points are in order :points:

And level issues for prety much all of Buianova's skaters, it seems like.

Yes that one bothers me a LOT, cause spins most of the time is just a matter of practicing: flexibility aside you can work on speed and centering.

While the steps sequence seems a choreographer decision because all Buyanova skaters have only level 2 stsq, the only two from that group who have level 3 stsq are Kirill Iakovlev and Sergei Voronov.

It seems nothing but they are leaving a lot of points to the table because of that.

How is it Ekaterina Ryabova connected to Azerbaijan? I thought she is from Russia.

it is fairly easy to get citizenship of ex soviet republics.
Also, she can have actual roots there - during soviet times, people moved all around, and when it broke, many russians came back. Her family could be one of those maybe

i hope anna could get her 4T bak and beat the so called quad queen

Anna is doing 4T in practice according to an Instagram fan who visited the rink, but that aside, what’s up with “so-called”? Please don’t be so negative about Sasha, she is extremely talented.

Oh, come on. I‘m not particularly Sasha‘s fan and I prefer Anna‘s skating by a mile but what Sasha has done really needs to be acknowledged. Anna has consistency issues so if she lands a 4Lz in an actual ISU event that would be a major victory already. I would love for Anna to beat Sasha because I’m a huge fan of hers but at the moment Sasha Trusova IS the quad queen because she‘s the only one who has landed more than one quad in an official ISU competition.
