Mikhail Kolyada

I don't think that Mika has the arrogance of "i am perfect, how did it happened to me this mistake" but more "I have to be perfect", it is more his duty feeling if i read exactly in his interviews, his fear to let others down. I think he is too hard on himself and part of it comes to how everybody in his environment reacts to his mistakes.

The people who follow him absolutely know he's the second. The people who find stuff to explain their dislike of him might think the first.

Going out to talk to journalists/take pictures (he is the first after the SP, after all) is kind of basic decorum. It feels like a temper fit on his part, except aimed at himself. I hope Valentina gets his head in the right place by tomorrow. It is of course still possible that there is an good reason for it that extends beyond "I am not happy with my skate an a Senior B".

My post/question isn’t about expected decorum, because I guess that goes with the territory even if it’s the last thing a skater wants to do after a disappointing skate (and sometimes leads to a media frenzy if he/she says something in the heat of the moment— e.g., Ashley’s “I’m furious” comment at 2018 US nationals). Rather, I’m wondering, could Misha’s obvious disappointment in himself be a positive sign about his training (and confidence) compared to last season? As I recall, last season he often expressed general satisfaction with performances that had big mistakes (and was criticized for that). I’m hoping that’s the case. In any event, I think at least one thing is for sure — being a fan of Misha is stressful, rather like a roller-coaster ride LOL, but we can’t help ourselves!:)

Last season with both 4Lz and 4S mistakes were expected by us and by Misha and his team. This season if Misha truly expects to be near-perfect all the time... I am not sure it's such a good thing since nothing like that has ever happened in his career. Especially if he allows his disappointment to show through in this manner. Well, considering last Finlandia and what happened there, and the one before that... maybe his competition is just cursed for him.
 
Well, Misha survived? But really, no one skated a clean program from the men, I don't know if there was something on the ice or anything. Don't know about that decision to throw that quad toe so late in the program when his axel looked really good today. Also, not much of a change from his layout compared to Nepela, so I don't know what they're going to take away from this.

Edit: just to add that the judges are really on board with his Carmen. This was the right choice for him, no two ways about it.
 
Is Misha sick? People have been talking about it since yesterday. I can't remember him quite as unsteady on his feet and he looked awful afterwards.
But congratulations on the win!

I saw that yesterday, but it really seemed like Valentina was helping him up after the FS. Maybe that's why he didn't want to give interviews - to not need to talk about it. People burned him for saying all kinds of stuff in the past.

I can't remember him saying "I skated badly because something hurts" once. You only sometimes find out about health problems post factum.

Yeah, but he didn't really look like he was in pain, more like under the weather, exhausted. And then there's the fact that he also might be lacking stamina, and perhaps his training is more tasking now. We'll see how he fares in the GP, but not a bad pre-season. Two golds this time, some experience under his belt.

He has never said "i skated badly because I have a nasty virus" either. He doesn't complain about health so people assume nothing is ever the matter with him.

Well, when he said he was satisfied with his competition, even with falls, people were not really happy with him, so I take he just doesn't want to go through the hassle again, he already got enough attention last season. Alas, enough people offered their opinions about him already, so maybe he just rather not say a thing.

Yeah, that puts our doubts about his health to rest. Hopefully it's something that he can overcome quickly. But again, he doesn't exactly seem to be in pain, but he looks very sluggish and even a bit faint.

There is a printed version now. In addition to how hard the competition was, he says there is nothing wrong with his health, but he sure doesn't look it. Maybe exhaustion? He never complains so I don't know what to make of it. He also said that for him it is harder physically to skate a shorter LP and that his new FS world record doesn't mean anything to him because it's just numbers.
