2018-19 Russian Ladies' figure skating

But from what we see in Men's, getting the 3A early is very important.

Those who get it late seem to have recurring problems with it as seniors.

So, even if they can only put it in the FS, going for the 3A and getting it to competitive consistency before peak growth makes sense.

And we can't assume that the 2A will stay the norm in Ladies forever.

She has 3 quads. She will be fine.

I think Sasha will probably survive puberty well, because she jumps high, and her body has a natural small frame but not fragile. Her frame is ideal for quad, but I am not sure what kind of body type is ideal for 3A for ladies. Her 2A is by no means small, so I do see a 3A potential. But I wonder if it is wise to spend so much time on those insanely difficult jumps.

Turenko is starting to really impress me. First good work with Gubanova, now good work with Sakhanovich and Nugumanova. Might rank her above Mishin soon due to Mishin's poor layout choices and choreography.

Angelina Turenko worked wonders with Gubanova and Sima. Nugumanova I am still in doubt, her UR problems may be too chronic for a quick fix (Mishina's fault, all her girls UR), but I love her new Nutcracker FS.
She is very young, only 29 years of age, and as a former top-tier skater in the country (winning Junior Nationals and Russian Cup Final) she has personal experience with triples, puberty and mental stress. Her good taste in programmes is a big bonus for me.

She is a very promising coach who might be the answer to puberty-related regression.

Interesting...

It's time for a new generation to begin to come forward.

Eteri may have been the outsider 8 years ago, but now she's a fixture.

And there hasn't been so much movement elsewhere.

That assumes you think she'll only be in seniors a couple of years before retiring.

Think about it.

How many male skaters have stumbled with a solid set of quads but an unreliable 3A?

If the 3A in the SP is permitted for Ladies within a year or two, the game changes.

3A is already permitted. For senior ladies.
Trusova will be senior level eligible next summer.
GP 2019 is her 1st event likely. Shcherbakova may participate even earlier.
First time they lock horns with the real skaters they will see two things.
1) 3A is important.
2) The Board prefers PCS above quads. Easier to manipulate.

not really.
Judges LOVE quads. Judges, overall, love high TES and the winners. I don't doubt that, by the end of Trusova's first senior year, if she keeps skating like she does now, her PCs will be up in the 70s.

Zero?

Have I forgotten something?
Many.

This is a Russian thread, so I won't belabour it.

But there seemed to be a generation of Canadian men with exactly that issue.

It's hard to come back from a bad 3A in an SP, and there was definitely a group of men that did that more often than not.

?? Last time I checked she’s not competing against men....get back to me when there’s a whole slew of ladies with a solid set of quads.

And do we have any evidence Sasha won’t be able to get a decent 3A? She has very good 2A technique and gets tremendous height on her off ice 3As. She’s going to be just fine.

I can’t believe that here we have a girl who can do 3 different kinds of quads, including 4lz, and quads in combination, and people are seriously hand-wringing over the fact that she *might* not be able to do a 3A. God forbid she doesn’t win both the SP and FP in every competition she enters for the rest of eternity :palmf:

I mean, not a top competitor currently comes to mind, at least. There are a couple with unreliable 3As, but they also have 4-5 quads. You could start a thread. IDK what you mean by "solid set of quads" though. I definitely haven't analysed everything in relation to scoring and results, so could be wrong anyway.

Well.. Here is a food for thought for you, guys.

If you think about it.. Trusova & Shcherbakova already have landed at the moment more quads than ALL male figure skaters this season so far! :scratch2: Girl power! :o:

Not serious hand wringing definitely, but it's the Axels are just very different to learn. And to relearn. Just observing.

Under modern teaching methods, many skaters learn and land all the other doubles at the same time -- while they still can't land an axel.

Ditto the triples and then the 2A.

As Sasha says, you just add in the rotation. Or in fact you learn, 2whatever + Lo, and then just add that revolution in. 3whatever+Lo and it's a quad.

And so the quads come well before the 3A. But the 3A is a much more unforgiving jump. The judges know this.

Quads have more star power than 3A. There is one 3A and there are many quads. Quite a few top men don't have a good 3A but plenty of quads (Nathan Chen is a most recent example). So I think it is more important for Sasha and Anna to train for more stable quads than 3A.

I think 3A or two of them from women field would make a difference. Dont mix men and women. 3A is a common thing for men, for ladies - not

I've seen her do beautiful 3A's on the floor, and it is Sasha, I don't think there is much of anything she cannot do, once she is determined to do it. I believe, that as a senior, she will have a 3A in her short program.

I got this link on my phone, from the "Irina Rodrina" cup, whatever that is. I'm going to assume this little girl is 7?, but holy moly she is amazing.

Wow~~ Her SS is insane for her age, and she is shorter than the board:luv17:
